Iraq: Arab Summit to be held on time

The Arab League affirmed it had not received any formal request to reschedule an Arab summit planned for Iraq in March after Libya said it would be postponed due to regional circumstances.

Arab leaders should necessarily discuss the latest developments in the region, the Arab League said.

This is a decision that has to be taken collectively. If there is a suggestion of that nature, a decision has to be taken collectively," said Hesham Youssef, a senior aide to Moussa.

Iraq is to host the summit that has been set for March 29. It comes at a critical time in the region following protests that have unseated Tunisia and Egypt's presidents, Iraqi Cabinet spokesman Ali Al Dabbagh said.

State of Law Coalition MP Haidar Al Ibadi affirmed for his part that Iraq is ready to hold the Arab Summit if Arab leaders decide to assist.

The present situation in the region requires to convene Arab leaders as soon as possible, he said.
