FinanceParliamentary Finance Committee: No vote on federal budget soon

Thursday, January 21st 2010 2:13 PM

Baghdad, Jan. 21 (AKnews) - The Finance Committee of the Iraqi Parliament said on Thursday that the vote on the amended federal budget took a long time due to political divergences.

"The Finance Committee was briefed on the draft Federal budget and passed it on to the Presidency of the Parliament in order to introduce it in the meeting's agenda for first and second reading and then for voting," Member of the Finance Committee, Ismail Shukr, told the Independent National News Agency of Kurdistan (AKnews).

The prevailing atmosphere in the Parliament and the opinions of the political blocs show that the draft budget will not be discussed during the next sessions, since some political forces are trying to associate the budget approval with the ratification of other laws" , he explained.

"These political blocs had requested the inclusion of the Electoral Code of Conduct within the federal budget law, in order to vote them at once, and this would delay the budget approval", Shukr added.

The total 2010 federal budget amounted approximately to 83 trillion (t) Iraqi dinars, including 60 trillion dinars (t) for the operating budget value, and the budget had been calculated on the basis of U.S.$ 60 dollars per each barrel of oil.

The cabinet had approved on October 13 the 2010 federal budget of 83 trillion Iraqi Dinars, which includes the supplementary budget for year 2009, amounting to 5 trillion (t) and 300 billion (B) Iraqi dinars, transferred to the Government by the parliament to introduce some amendments on it.

These ammendments provided the allocation of 267, 385, 000,000 Iraq Dinars for the parliament's budget, 313,569,650,000 Dinars for the Supreme Judicial Council and 250 billion Dinars for the martyrs and political prisoners foundations.
