Note: Italian region Emilia-Romagna ( where he comes from) has been super-leftist for decades after the 2nd WW ...That was due to the fact that in the Mussolini (fascism) period...Repression had been particularly heavy in those areas...Mussolini himself was from Emilia-Romagna btw....

 

The reaction consequently was for most folks, once war and fascism were over, to vote  the ex-Communist Party  ( Partito Comunista Italiano-It Comm Party which doesn't exist anymore...Used to be biggest communist party in western Europe) for such a long time when the party system became legal...Also worth mentioning that the social services and various service systems in the region used to be /are probably still the best in the entire country

 

The current name of what once was the Communist party ( after 2 or 3 name changes...) is  Democratic Party ( which is a lot less leftist and moving more and more to centre-right than the old Communist party....Just saying....)...Last year Elly Schlein ( Italian-American) became chief of Dem party....She sounds and reasons  like a great individual...Let's hope....
