Shafaq News / On Wednesday, the Iraqi Minister of Electricity, Ziyad Ali Fadel, signed an agreement with the German company “Siemens” to invest gas associated with oil and convert it into fuel for power generation plants.

 

The minister’s media office stated in a statement received by Shafaq News Agency that the latter signed the agreement in the German capital, Berlin, with the Siemens company to convert the associated gas that is burned into electrical energy with the aim of meeting the needs of citizens in a sustainable and safe manner.

 

The minister said, "The agreement comes as part of the efforts of the Iraqi government headed by Muhammad Shiaa Al-Sudani to end the phenomenon of burning gas and invest it effectively in generating electrical energy, as well as within the framework of its commitment to the decisions of the Paris Climate Conference in preserving the environment and providing renewable energy sources."

 

He stated that "the agreement is characterized by rapid implementation, as it includes investing about 120 million standard cubic feet of gas within a short period of six months, and an additional 120 million standard cubic feet within a period of one year, and the gas produced will be used to establish an electrical station with a capacity of 2000." megawatts, to enhance the capabilities of the electrical network and ensure the stability of supply hours.”

 

For his part, CEO of Siemens Energy, Christian Bruch, praised the efforts made by the Iraqi government to overcome the challenges and obstacles that have faced the energy sector over many years, stressing that Iraq has succeeded during the past few years in establishing many infrastructure projects. Which will contribute to building real capabilities for the energy sector in the country
