Plasschaert points out the importance of the presidency of the region and pushes Baghdad and Kurdistan towards the private sector and a long-term agreement

Shafaq News/ The envoy of the United Nations Secretary-General, Jeanine Plasschaert, said on Tuesday that there is no way for Baghdad and the Kurdistan Region but to invest in the private sector.

Plasschaert added during a meeting with students of Soran University, which was reported by the Kurdish “Rudaw” station, that “the public sector in the Kurdistan Region and Iraq in general has become more like a balloon that is being inflated, so there is no way but to invest in the private sector.”

Plasschaert explained in another file, "We worked during the last period with Iran and Iraq to implement the security agreement with the aim of stopping the bombing of these areas, and if we talk about Turkey, we hope with all our heart that we will take a similar approach in the near future."

Plasschaert continued, "If we compare the Iraqi Kurdistan Region to the rest of the Kurdish people in Iran, Turkey, and Syria, we see many achievements in the region, and it is true that they may not be ideal, and it is correct that we acknowledge the achievements that have been achieved here in the region."

Plasschaert pointed out that a large part of the statistics indicate a decline in the freedom of opinion index in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region as well. Freedom of opinion and expression is very important and must be preserved.

She pointed out that "there is a positive atmosphere and agreement between Erbil and Baghdad, but this agreement is temporary, and I support the existence of a long-term agreement between the two sides."

The United Nations envoy said, “The presidency of the Kurdistan Region is an important institution for the entire region and for relations between Erbil and Baghdad as well.”
