BAGHDAD / Aswat al-Iraq: Following is a summary of news reports posted until 04:00 p.m. Baghdad local time Wednesday – June 30:

*Politics:

BAGHDAD - The Sadr Movement is still committed to the nomination of Ibrahim al-Jaafari to hold the position of Iraq’s Prime Minister (PM).

NINEWA - Local authorities in Ninewa on Wednesday have prevented Sahwa (Awakening) fighters from demonstrating in the province.

*Security:

KIRKUK - Police forces on Wednesday found an unknown corpse of a woman southwestern Kirkuk city, said a local security source.

BAGHDAD - Two policemen were killed on Wednesday and another was wounded when unknown gunmen attacked a checkpoint in southern Baghdad.

BAGHDAD - One policeman and one civilian were wounded on Wednesday when a roadside bomb went off in southwestern Baghdad.

ANBAR - One civilian was killed on Wednesday and another wounded when a sticky bomb went off in western Anbar province.

ANBAR - A wide-scale security campaign has been launched on Wednesday in Falluja to track down those involved in killing jewelers and robbing their gold shops in the city around a week ago.

*Economy:

BAGHDAD - The Iraqi Council of Ministers has approved that the South Gas Company (SGC – state run) forms the Basra Gas Company in partnership with two firms, Shell and Mitsubishi.

BAGHDAD - A 5-year National Development Plan (NDP) will be launched next Sunday (July, 4), the Iraqi Planning Ministry said on Wednesday.

KARBALA - The Egyptian firm, Orascom, is ready to invest in the housing sector in Karbala, the company’s representative said on Wednesday.
