Incumbent Prime Minister Nouri al-Malaki's mainly Shia coalition came in just behind Iyad Allawi's secular Sunni Iraqiyya alliance. But both are well short of the 163 seats needed to form a government, and must now try to create a broad enough coalition to rule. Jim Muir reports from Baghdad.
