  2. Hey FF, I wandered where you went after you left F26's daily post. Glad I found you. I hope you keep posting, I always liked your optimism and frank (notice the small "f", not a capital) remarks. Sorry, I couldn't pass up the chance to post a pun that is so obvious. Anyway, you keep postin' 'em and I'll keep readin' 'em Sorry Trooper, I wanted to thank you for bringing this over. +1 for your efforts
  3. Here's some more info on the form instructions... I read through the instructions for this form and it doesn't specify that foreign currencies are included. Here is the link to the IRS site with the instructions: www.irs.gov/pub/irs-dft/i8938--dft.pdf In case I missed something in the instructions related to currencies, I thought I would post the reporting threshholds that are specified. Keep in mind that this is currently in draft form right now on the IRS website. Here are the reporting threshholds: Determining the Reporting Threshold That Applies to You. If you satisfy the reporting threshold discussed below that applies to you and no other exception applies, file Form 8938 with your income tax return. Unmarried taxpayers living in the United States. If you are not married and not living abroad, you satisfy the reporting threshold if the total value of your specified foreign financial assets is more than $50,000 on the last day of the tax year or more than $100,000 at any time during the tax year. Married taxpayers filing a joint income tax return and living in the United States. If you are married and you and your spouse file a joint income tax return and do not live abroad, you satisfy the reporting threshold only if the value of your specified foreign financial assets is more than $100,000 on the last day of the tax year or more than $200,000 at any time during the tax year. Married taxpayers filing separate income tax returns and living in the United States. If you are married, file a separate income tax return from your spouse, and do not live abroad, you satisfy the reporting threshold if the total value of your specified foreign financial assets is more than $50,000 on the last day of the tax year or more than $100,000 at any time during the tax year.
  4. Let's start a list of the sound bytes that have been repeated over the years that we know lack any credibility. This would be a great reference for the unitiated and those still learning. I'll start the list: Sound Bite (Why this is BS) Bank Screens (local banks won't know until it happens, anything else is pure conjecture) Treasury Lockdown (programmers get called in all the time to fix things, to assume this is RV related is just ignorant) LOP (this term is made up by gurus and doesn't even exists in international banking lingo) John Doe is holding up the RV (how could anyone on these forums possibly know if an individual can / is holding up the RV... secret intel? LOL) Some Three Letter Organization is holding up the RV (nice for a conspiracy theorists (CTs), no way to prove or disprove this one, but how would any guru have this level of intel) I can't name my sources due to confidentiality / national security / personal safety / etc. (again, nice for CTs b/c u can't prove or disprove, don't believe anything that doesn't have a clear and legitimate source documented) RV was held up due to technical problems (RVs have happened many times in the past without technical problems, why did everyone get dumb all of the sudden?) Come on folks, let's keep it going. Have some fun with this, and let's educate some people
  5. Hey BruceV, I'm always up for a new prediction, thanks for being honest with the relative value of the rumor and keeping it real for the noobs (I probably still fit into that category). I am amazed that your intel aligns so closely with what the gurus are stating, kind of gives me a warm fuzzy feeling. I also like that you are accepting responsibility for your posting and won't make excuses if it is false. I wish there were more prognosticators like you on these sites. I am willing to get a tiny bit excited by this (usually I just laugh and move on, knowing that I have only been entertained and not informed with predictions) and am willing to give you a couple of shots at this. Please don't let all of the positive responses inflate your ego too much, this group can turn on you quickly if this becomes habitual, and I'd hate to see that happen to you. I'll stay cautiously optimistic for a couple of days before crawling back into my protective shell of general distrust on predictions. Thanks for breaking me out for a short while . I'll give you a plus 1 and hope that this ends soon. Mr T
  6. Here's my philosophy on the investment, and my own financial analysis: I don't think anyone has lost anything yet with the dinar. Even if it doesn't RV, the dinar is still a foreign currency and at worst, we'll lost the spread for buying and then selling the dinar, but that is a relatively minor cost of getting into an investment with the upside potential this still has. Let's look at the math of investing here: - Let's say you bought 1 MM dinar: approximate cost is $854.70 at 1170 dinar / dollar + any transaction fees (estimate at $100 / million dinar) = $954.70 - Worst case is that this RDS (remove the 000's): You then HOPE that this will RV after the RD, so you exchange your 1MM dinar for lower denoms with transaction fee (estimate at $100 / million, just a wild guess here) - Worst case is that there is NO RV after the RD: Then you exchange the 1,000 new dinars back to USD and get $854.70 back: Pay the spread and transaction fees (estimate at $200, another wild guess) So you have spent the spread and transaction fees at 3 transaction points: $100 + $200 + $100 = $400 (this is your potential total loss on the investment) We all know what the potential returns are. - It looks really good if there is an RV without and RD (break even rate is about 250 dinar / USD), anything above that is gravy, icing, cha-ching, etc) - If it RDs then RVs, we could still make $$, but if it RDs with the removal of three 000's, we would need an RV of about 1.35 new dinar / USD to break even I guess we could lose everything if: 1) Iraq splinters into tribal territories and the dinar becomes valueless (unlikely but possible) OR 2) if the Iraqi government does not honor foreign investments (very unlikely, since they do have a sense of national pride and want to attract future foreign investors) BUT they way I see it is I have the potential to lose about $400 / million IQD for an incredible upside potential. This may be a low cost lesson for me in the journey of life, but I am still glad I am on the journey. When I die, the only opportunities I will regret are the ones that I didn't take.
  7. Thanks Blu Collar Guru, I didn't have the time to listen to the entire conf. call, but it is good hear your thoughts. I was a bit put off by the "family" thing at first as well, but after reading through many of the daily posts, I see that there are many very personal conversations going on between / among members. I think there is a feeling of community there that doesn't exist on other dinar forums and can understand why they call each other family. There is also a spiritual component to this, but I do see how this can be construed as "cultish" if taken out of context. It isn't only Frank calling it "family", many of the members feel the same way. As an outsider looking in, it is a bit disconcerting for me, but I won't pass judgement on them as they seem to be at peace with the term. (JMO). Thanks for taking the time to listen to the CC and reporting it here, I wish I had more time to listen to these, but life interferes and family takes precedent Mike, what is your newsletter and where can I get access to it? Sounds like you have done quite a bit of research, and I'm anxious to see your findings. Thanks
  8. Hey everyone, I've been watching the heated debate on Frank's past and present for a couple of days now and I think that we need to get some facts out so that we have objectivity, not just rumor and inuendo. I have been reading Frank's site and several others now for about 6 months and from what I have read, I don't think that he is taking advantage of anyone. I have never seen a factual account from anyone that claims they have been scammed by Frank. I know that many people believe that since he sells dinar and sells VIP memberships, then he must be a con (especially since he has a strong spiritual presence on his website). Please show me / us a factual account of someone that has claimed to be scammed by Frank and I will eat the proper amount of crow and apologize. If you don't have facts, I would suggest that you take a hard look at your own motives for bashing Frank and "man up" by stating that this is your opinion only. Here are my facts: 1) Frank provides a service to all dinar holders (for free) by keeping us informed about the news from Iraq. His newshounds spend a great deal of time searching for, translating, and reporting the latest news stories from Iraq). Frank's dailly posts are available to anyone that registers on his site and I have learned a great deal by reading these posts 2) The many people that also post on Frank's site discuss many things from current events, to sports, to dinar, to religion. I find these posts entertaining and uplifting. There is very little bashing going on and it looks like the vast majority of these people leave the site feeling better than when they entered it. 3) Frank sells VIP memberships that seem to be a valued service for members. I am not a VIP, but I have never heard anyone claim that they are not getting their $$ worth. There is also the power of numbers if/when the dinar RVs for these members to ensure they get solid financial advice and leverage when dealing with banks, dealers, brokers, accountants, and lawyers. Many novice investors may find this type of information immensely valuable if they quickly acquire a great deal of wealth. 4) Frank sells dinar: OK, he does have a vested interest in attracting people to his website, but I have looked around and have not found anyone that sells dinar for less, so he is not charging a premium over the current market value of the dinar. 5) Frank does have a spiritual message weaved throughout his website and on his CCs: I haven't seen where he prophesizes the rate or date of RV, and his message is very positive and comforting for the many people that participate. I have a spiritual side as well and sometimes I read the messages found on his site, sometimes I skip over them. I can tell you that he does not pump dinar using GOD as his Marketer. He holds weekly Bible studies which are actually very uplifting and is very quick to praise GOD in his view of the world's wonders. He and the others on the site frequently lift up the others that are experiencing turmoil in their life, and I have seen several occassions where the group has intervened financially or personally to help someone else. If you have a problem with that, then you need to do some soul searching. 6) Frank has made some predictions on when he expects the dinar to revalue, but has always indicated that it is his opinion and not a guarantee. He does not recycle the same date / rate predictions that many gurus claim (ie: it has already happened, will happen today/tomorrow at the latest, will happen by the end of the week, etc). His opinions are based on the facts that are found in the many news articles found on his site and have remained consistent for the several months I have been watching. If something changes, he acknowledges it and seeks out more information. He is not a "soundbyte" type of guru, his analysis is logical and based on the data available. I also like that he takes feedback and criticizm well and has shown the ability to alter his opinion based on new information (from any source). So, let's stick to the facts. Again, if you have data that proves Frank is a con, please share it with the rest of us. If not, then you are either a con yourself, a competitor with an agenda, a gossip that just wants some attention, or a sociopathic liar. It is bad enough for someone to state their opinion as fact, it is morally wrong to trash another's reputation for your own self-gratification.
  9. That is a much more balanced opinion. Hate tends to blind the holder. I don't have enough history on these sites to make a call on Frank's intentions / agenda. I do know that I have learned alot by reading through the posts on his website (especially from the newshounds) and I do feel more positive from the others that post on the site. I tend to think that I can learn from anyone, and although I do pick and choose what I want to believe on Frank's site, I don't believe everything that is posted there. There are alot of people with big hearts on the site and there is very little bashing going on (which is a pleasant change from most dinar sites). I would say we should just use reasoned logic to evaluate what we read and (if you don't mind me getting a bit spiritual) pray for those that are living in a delusional state of mind. Nice to see that you are able to reflect and restate, that is a rare and valuable quality to have. Betty, it's always great to see (i mean read) your avatar (I mean posts) I am of the same mindset on timing. Any thoughts on a rate??? I'd be thrilled with $1 / IQD but very happy with $0.10 / IQD.
  10. I hope that you are wrong about Frank and that you are able to let go of your hate(for your own peace of mind). I am assuming that you have a personal experience with Frank that is driving your emotions in this manner and not based on heresay or rumor. Please share this experience with us so that we have the benefit of your knowledge / experience.
  11. Nope, they haven't posted one yet. One of their team members generally takes notes while the CC is on and posts it soon afterward. I think that person was sick or indisposed on this call and hasn't typed up any notes from the recording yet. I don't have a couple of hours to spend listening, so I wait along with you for the cliff notes.
  12. Can you feel the IRONY of coleman's last comment? I get the same feeling when I hear about an atheist that says I "believe" there is no such thing as GOD... Not sure if Frank is a con, but I do know that his site does provide a great deal of information for investors on what is going on in Iraq. I don't think he uses GOD to make prophesies about the investment, his analysis and opinions are based on actual events / news articles out of Iraq. He just overlays the site with a spiritual theme that seems to resonate with those that read and comment on the site. Having faith and openly discussing it on his own website is as much his right as it is for you to bash him. Yes, he is selling dinar and provides a VIP level of service for a fee (BTW I am not a VIP member), but I have yet to see anyone claim that they are being cheated in any way. There must be some added-value for those that have joined or bought dinar through him. (just sayin'). I thought I would give you another perspective from someone that is not vested in Frank's website but does spend some time reading what he and his team report.
  13. Thanks again, I have seen a pattern with many of the gurus / self-proclaimed experts as well. Some always claim today / tomorrow, others emphatically claim it has already happened, and others have the "end of week" theory that gets regenerated each Monday. Some have stated that Thanksgiving to New Years is a likely window and now some are saying not until 2012. If it does RV, at least one of the gurus will be right once, but then everyone that is interested will go back to their lives (albeit with more $$ in hand hopefully) and the guru will get his/her 15 minutes of fame and then be forgotten. I am kind of enjoying the speculation and mystery of this all, so I'll continue to watch what is being said, but I'm glad to have some more info to help keep things in perspective. I enjoy Frank's site for the banter and I do learn quite a bit from the new articles they post, so I'll keep it in my favorites tab and continue to see what is being discussed.
  14. I haven't seen a countdown on Frank's site. He does talk about a likely window of opportunity between Thanksgiving and New Year but I haven't seen a specific date predicted. I am relatively new to this (bought into the dinar in July this year) so I don't have any context around your question, is this an annual event for Frank to have a countdown? I do like to have as much info as possible, so would appreciate any historical perspective you can cast on this. Thanks truthful
  15. Thanks Easy, I appreciate your posts and your insights on the others that bring us the daily news / commentary. Keep up the great work... +1 for this objective view of Delta, Blustar, Frank and yourself
