  1. The FBI estimates that there are over 200 million privately-owned firearms in the US. If you add those owned by the military, law enforcement agencies and museums, there is probably about 1 gun per person in the country. If you want to get a rough idea of how many guns there are out there just look at how many people you see out there then multiply by a factor of estimated ownership. The last best guess was about 350,000,000 Total. That would be 1 weapon for every man woman and child. The average gun enthusiast owns several firearms which includes pistols, shotguns, and rifles of all makes and models. It is often estimated that about 1 in 4 people own any firearms and on average firearms owners own 4 guns each. http://wiki.answers.com/Q/How_many_guns_are_in_the_United_States_of_America Very funny, you and I know there's no such stat but with a population of over 300 million people and over 350 million guns I'm pretty sure my guess is accurate, but I tell you what if you can tell me how many grains of sand exists in the US including the deserts I promise I will look harder to find the stat you're looking for.
  2. I pray to the lord that he gives sthrenght and confort for the families of this unspeakable act and that he takes all these beaultiful angels under his arms and the people that tryed to save them, and that the lord will protect this nation from this happening again.
  3. Reuters) - The United States has 90 guns for every 100 citizens, making it the most heavily armed society in the world, a report released on Tuesday said.U.S. citizens own 270 million of the world's 875 million known firearms, according to the Small Arms Survey 2007 by the Geneva-based Graduate Institute of International Studies. About 4.5 million of the 8 million new guns manufactured worldwide each year are purchased in the United States, it said. "There is roughly one firearm for every seven people worldwide. Without the United States, though, this drops to about one firearm per 10 people," it said. India had the world's second-largest civilian gun arsenal, with an estimated 46 million firearms outside law enforcement and the military, though this represented just four guns per 100 people there. China, ranked third with 40 million privately held guns, had 3 firearms per 100 people. Germany, France, Pakistan, Mexico, Brazil and Russia were next in the ranking of country's overall civilian gun arsenals. On a per-capita basis, Yemen had the second most heavily armed citizenry behind the United States, with 61 guns per 100 people, followed by Finland with 56, Switzerland with 46, Iraq with 39 and Serbia with 38. France, Canada, Sweden, Austria and Germany were next, each with about 30 guns per 100 people, while many poorer countries often associated with violence ranked much lower. Nigeria, for instance, had just one gun per 100 people. "Firearms are very unevenly distributed around the world. The image we have of certain regions such as Africa or Latin America being awash with weapons -- these images are certainly misleading," Small Arms Survey director Keith Krause said. "Weapons ownership may be correlated with rising levels of wealth, and that means we need to think about future demand in parts of the world where economic growth is giving people larger disposable income," he told a Geneva news conference. The report, which relied on government data, surveys and media reports to estimate the size of world arsenals, estimated there were 650 million civilian firearms worldwide, and 225 million held by law enforcement and military forces. Five years ago, the Small Arms Survey had estimated there were a total of just 640 million firearms globally. "Civilian holdings of weapons worldwide are much larger than we previously believed," Krause said, attributing the increase largely to better research and more data on weapon distribution networks. Only about 12 percent of civilian weapons are thought to be registered with authorities. Gun Violence How Prevalent is Gun Violence in America? Source: Bureau of Justice Statistics Data table [opens in pop-up window] | Text description [opens in pop-up window] In 2005, 11,346 persons were killed by firearm violence and 477,040 persons were victims of a crime committed with a firearm. Most murders in the United States are committed with firearms, especially handguns. In 2006, firearms were used in 68 percent of murders, 42 percent of robbery offenses and 22 percent of aggravated assaults nationwide. (Weapons data are not collected for forcible rapes. See table 19 "Violent Crime," from Crime in the United States, 2006.) Homicides committed with firearms peaked in 1993 at 17,075, after which the figure steadily fell, leveling off in 1999 at 10,117. Gun-related homicides have increased slightly each year since 2002. Find data on homicides by weapon type from the Bureau of Justice Statistics. Gun-Related Homicide and Gangs Source: Bureau of Justice Statistics Data table [opens in pop-up window] | Text description [opens in pop-up window] Gun-related homicide is most prevalent among gangs and during the commission of felony crimes. In 1976, the percentage of homicides caused by firearms during arguments was about the same as from gang involvement (about 70 percent), but by 1993, nearly all gang-related homicides involved guns (97 percent), whereas the percentage of gun homicides related to arguments remained relatively constant. The percentage of gang-related homicides caused by guns fell slightly to 94 percent in 2004, but the percentage of homicides caused by firearms during the commission of a felony rose from about 60 percent to 77 percent from 1976 to 2005.
  4. I see the laws there are pretty strict and the murders are kind of low, so this prooves that stricter laws work.
  5. I agree with having uniformed police at every school, that would make sense but I don't agree with teachers having to carry a gun into school.
  6. You're the only one talking about a gun war, we've been exchanging opinions all day without talking about a gun war, I pitty people that think like you.
  7. Cherysh I don't know all the gun laws in different states but some states the laws are not strict enough so it's very easy to get a gun, in New Jersey they do a background check and then you have to wait two months before you can get your permit and only then you can go out and buy a gun, that's why I think the laws should be just as strict everywhere.
  8. " gun owner freaks" like you is why they need to control gun laws to keep "gun owner freaks" like you from getting their hands on guns, you just prooved my point thanks.
  9. You're right, it's too easy to get a gun, and that's what I've been saying all day, that's why I believe the laws should be stricter across the country.
  10. We obviously see things differently and that's what makes this world go around, I feel I don't need a gun and you feel you need one, so you prooved your point the way you see things and I prooved my the way I see things, this was a good debate without anyone being upset, so thanks everyone for your opinions.
  11. I guess they're spreading the poor around, I heard they give them a one way ticket to where ever they want to go, so sad.
  12. I get your point, but remember you're not with your kids 24/7, so I'm sure if you were near your kids if something happened you and I would protect them, but what if you're not? What good does you having a gun would do?
  13. Enjoy your family through this holiday season, Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
  14. Well I love Brazil but I haven't been back in over 40 years, I'm sure you've seen that the military is pushing people out of the favelas in Rio to keep it safe for the world cup and the Olympics, guess where the poor are going to? if you gessed Sao Paulo you're right, That's one reason the crime there is so high. I hope you have a good time when you go there to that beautiful state of Salvador. Yes I would go without life jackets, but if one of my kids or grandson was going they would have to have a life jacket, in other words anybody that can't fend for themselves would need a jacket. We're talking about guns here, what does a camera have to with guns? let's try to stick to the topic.
  15. No, I don't have a boat, it's more trouble than it's worth, I'm very close to the shore and marinas but I just go on my friends boats, why?
  16. It's a shame that a beautiful country like that is so full of crime, thanks for links Umbertino.
  17. Don't twist what I'm saying, I'm talking about me and I feel that God will protect me don't try to put words in my mouth, because that's a low blow and I don't like low blows.
  18. Haha then you're crazy and smart at the same time not to say lucky. It would've been funny if you pulled a gum instead of a gun. :lol:src="http://dinarvets.com/forums/public/style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif">
  19. Haha, a dog? Well my friend my weapon of choice is my faith in God and that's the best protection one can have. :)src="http://dinarvets.com/forums/public/style_emoticons/default/smile.gif">
  20. I'm sure that by having a gun empowered you to stare them down and they backed off which worked in your favor and I'm glad it did, but what if all three of them had guns too, it would've been ugly right?
  21. Talk is cheap God forbid it ever happens to you too, if you were walking down the street and somebody aproached you with a gun pointed at you, you would do nothing unless you wanted to die, you and I can sit here all day and argue back and forth but until you or I are in that situation we don't know what we would do, plain and simple.
  22. My answer is I would fight till I died before I see somebody beating my family, I wouldn't be laying on the ground unless I was dead. I'm not trying to brag but I have fought people with baseball bat and a knife and not a scrach on me, I have never faced anybody with a gun though so I don't know what I would do and neither would you.
  23. This is the reason I'm so angry with guns, look at all the beautifull faces of these angels that were taken from their families and friends because some crazy guy had a gun and wanted to die. I have been praying everyday that these angels are in a better place with God.
  24. Haha you're funny Rod, I'm not saying take guns away from everybody read all my posts, I think if you were being robbed by a guy with a gun, a knife or a baseball bat you would more than likely get hit before you got your gun out, and if you're lucky enough to get your gun out and control it then I think you might have a chance.
