  2. June 7, 2011 Germany's Merkel, Obama open three-day summit Washington: German Chancellor Angela Merkel arrived in Washington for a three-day summit with US President Barack Obama, amid lingering differences over the dour world economy and Mideast policy. Obama and Merkel kicked off their visit away from the confines of the White House, with a dinner in the upscale Georgetown section of Washington. "They spoke for two hours," a source with the German delegation told AFP. "It was a nice conversation, in a relaxed atmosphere," held in the popular "1789," a cozy corner restaurant featuring American haute cuisine. Among their talking points were the crises in North Africa and the Middle East, the euro crisis, the world economy and German and American affairs, according to officials from the German delegation. Merkel, who will be feted during her stay at a lavish White House banquet, has been joined during her American visit by her reclusive chemist husband Joachim Sauer and several cabinet members. But German media noted that behind the pomp would be lingering strain over Berlin's decision in March to abstain in the UN Security Council vote authorizing military action to protect civilians in Libya. Germany, which has a non-permanent seat on the council, was the only European Union or NATO member to withhold its support. Obama told Berlin daily Der Tagesspiegel that he would now like to see Germany do more to help the international effort in Libya. "I look forward to discussing with the chancellor how we can enhance our work together to more effectively address the changes underway in the region, including in Libya," he said, in an interview published Monday. German Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle said shortly after his arrival in Washington late Monday that the amicable start to the visit "shows that US-German relations are extraordinary." But he noted that lingering tensions between Berlin and Washington over some issues, notably Germany's decision not to join military action against Libya, in which Washington, Britain and France have played leading roles. "Of course, even closest friends sometimes disagree on some things," Westerwelle said. But he said Germany would "firmly" stick to its guns on the issue that has led to strained relations with its partners on both sides of the Atlantic. "You must not confuse our position on Libya with neutrality -- we want a political solution," the German diplomat said. "We are clearly against a dictator who has started a war against his own people, we want Libya to get a fair chance by (Muammar) Gaddafi leaving." Also on the agenda for Merkel and Obama is a discussion about the role of developing countries in the International Monetary Fund and whether it is a given that an American is always head of the World Bank and a European at the IMF. Germany strongly supports French Finance Minister Christine Lagarde for the IMF post vacated last month by Dominique Strauss-Kahn after the Frenchman was arrested and charged with sexual assault in New York. US Secretary of State Hillarious Clinton recently said she "personally" welcomed Lagarde's candidacy for the IMF leadership, although she noted the United States had not taken an official position. Mexican central banker Agustin Carstens has also thrown his hat in the ring, saying that becoming the next IMF chief would be a major victory for the entire developing world. Obama was also to award Merkel the Presidential Medal of Freedom during her stay. The honor was conferred in February to 15 prominent figures, but Merkel was unable to attend. The medal, the highest US honor that can be bestowed on a civilian, is given to people who have made significant contributions "to the security or national interests of the United States, to world peace, or to cultural or other significant public or private endeavors." http://www.channelnewsasia.com/stories/afp_world/view/1133708/1/.html

  5. Tuesday, June 7, 2011 Iraq may cut oil output capacity goal -minister * Iraq may increase timeframes for contracts to 13-14 years * Oil minister says companies "will not be hurt" Vienna, Iraq is considering cutting its ambitious target to increase its oil output capacity to 12 million barrels per day and could renegotiate deals with global oil companies accordingly, its oil minister said on Tuesday. Abdul-Kareem Luaibi said the timeframes agreed with oil companies to reach output targets could be extended to 13 to 14 years from six to seven years under their existing contracts. "We are studying several scenarios for more economic production rates, we can reduce the production and increase the period to reach the plateau targets," Luaibi told reporters in Vienna. "For example, instead of producing 12 million bpd for 7 years, we can produce 8 million bpd for 13 or 14 years." Iraq signed a series of deals with international oil firms, after two bidding rounds in 2009, to try to boost its output capacity to 12 million bpd by 2017 from around 2.7 million bpd currently. Since then many analysts have questioned whether the country can achieve the 12 million bpd target in the foreseeable future because of infrastructure constraints. They say 6 million-7 million bpd is a more realistic goal. The contracts are production driven, and oil companies get fees for each barrel produced. Any deep cut to Iraq's overall target could mean the deals would need to be adjusted to accommodate lower production plateaus, which would mean lower returns for oil companies. Luaibi said the ministry had yet to approach oil companies over renegotiation, which would be done after the ministry draws up a final plan with its consultants. "In general, the oil companies will not be hurt ... We can increase the period to reach the plateau targets to 13-14 years," he said. 7. Not to burst your bubble, but how would a regional private banker in a retail branch know anything about the underlying issues behind all of this? He isn't even in an impressive position at wells fargo, and please don't throw out titles like VP, Relationship Managers, and etc since to become a VP at a financial institution, all you need to do is fog a mirror. Maybe he has insider information that we do not know. Again, I'm just basing my statement on the tone of your post. I too a long time investor and holding a decent amount of dinar. Cheers. Read more: http://dinarvets.com/forums/index.php?/topic/68616-everyone-listen-and-listen-clearly/page__st__60#ixzz1NyHWkhgy In regards to your question. I would encourage you to call Sean and ask him these questions. I am aware that about a year ago the Wells Fargo Group decided to start taking the Iraqi Dinar a little more seriously and not only recommended but actually mandated that their Private Bankers (Wealth Management) division get up to speed immediately. Since then here in Southern CA. it has been fairly common place for this division with the bank to accomodate questions. I have found them to be very good sources of information. They are consistant with call backs and have actually called me with information on one instance. I really cant speak to the how things are being done away from my local area. I do know that you must have an account that is or exceeds 1.5 million standing balance to access this service at my branch. I need to clearly State that this stated number does not reflect each branch. It is adjusted from one branch to the next and is based on the contributions of the clients. Thanks for the response. If I can be of assistance, Im at your service---In the VIP room ofcourse
