  2. THIS JUST IN! (NOT FROM ME) Passing along info. Hey DD, My father inlaw called me today very excited. We have both been keeping up with the daily news, posts, and RUMORS for a while now. We dont believe anything we read so I dont expect anyone to believe this or take it to heart. Hell I dont believe it, but I want it to be true. Just stating what I was told. He called and said, “hey, I just got a call from a friend that has some dinar. My father in laws friend said his buddy that lives in Iraq just called him and said that the budget was just voted on and passed, and that the word there is the RV is happening tomorrow. This was at about 4pm pacific today. I dont believe rumors but take them in as I do with all info. None of us can believe anything until the money is in the bank, but this was the first rumor that has come to us from a source so close to us. He was about as excited as I have heard him in a while now. Just wanted to put it out there. After reading a bit tonight it seems the same things are being said. I hope it finally happens all. I told him last week that we should be really confused and things will look horrible for an RV. It keeps speculators away so if things look really bad next week Id say its looking good. Well, things got ugly right folks? Infighting, shady moves, power plays etc… Looks like they are no where near ready to do this right? Thats why I think we are very close. Just my opinion of course but its what I expected to happen this week. Go Iraq! Regards, Great199 future multi millionaire

  6. ISTANBUL, Feb 2 - Crude oil exports from Iraqi Kurdistan resumed on Wednesday at a flow of 10,000 barrels per day from the Tawke field, Iraqi Deputy Prime Minister Hussain al-Shahristani told Reuters on Wednesday. A source close to Norwegian oil company DNO <DNO.OL>, one of the Tawke field operators, said crude had only been pumped into a pipeline to prepare for exports and a local oil official said there was no sign of exports for the moment. 7. BAGHDAD (AFP) – Iraq has told its central bank to open accounts to transfer hundreds of millions of dollars out of a post-Gulf war US fund to protect the money from foreign claims, a government spokesman said on Wednesday. The cabinet also asked MPs to approve a $400-million compensation package for US victims of toppled dictator Saddam Hussein, and set up a mechanism for UN-mandated war reparations to Kuwait, Ali al-Dabbagh said in a statement. "The government asked the central bank to immediately open accounts before May 1 to transfer funds," from the Development Fund for Iraq (DFI), he said. The government approved recommendations "to establish a mechanism to ensure the protection of the money deposited out of Iraq," Dabbagh added. The statement, released Wednesday, came a day after the cabinet meeting. The DFI, which was set up after the 2003 war to handle oil and other revenues, has been protected against claims by a UN resolution that expires on June 30. Dabbagh also said that the cabinet called on the central bank to formulate a "specific and transparent" mechanism to calculate payments to Kuwait. Under UN resolution 1956, Iraq is required to pay five percent of its oil income to Kuwait for reparations stemming from Saddam's 1990 invasion of the neighbouring Gulf emirate. The request for parliamentary approval for the $400-million package, meanwhile, came after Iraq reached agreement with Washington over the amount in September, with the money meant for Americans who say they were mistreated by Saddam during the Gulf war. Iraq's August 2, 1990 assault on Kuwait was rapidly met with a concerted international military response that pushed Saddam's forces out of the emirate and eventually ended in his ouster by a US-led coalition in 2003. Several US citizens were held by Saddam's regime during the war over Kuwait and used as human shields to deter coalition attacks, with some claiming they were mistreated and tortured by Saddam's forces. "Iraq is keen to fulfill international obligations and to put an end to the results of previous policies," Dabbagh said.
  8. ARBIL, Iraq (AFP) – Iraqi Kurdistan is preparing to resume oil exports "soon" after a long standoff with central government authorities in Baghdad, the autonomous region's prime minister said on Wednesday. "Work is going on right now regarding resuming oil exports soon," Barham Saleh told AFP. "Companies have started conducting tests of the pumps to restart operations." "We are optimistic of implementing the deal that has been agreed, and soon oil exports will resume," he added. Baghdad and Kurdish authorities in Arbil have long argued over Kurdistan's oil since the region halted crude exports in October 2009 due to a payment dispute with Baghdad. The two sides have argued as well over revenue sharing and the central government's refusal to recognise Kurdish contracts. But last month, the two sides appeared to reach an agreement whereby Baghdad agreed to pay for the expenses of oil companies working in the region and exports were to resume on Tuesday. Also on Wednesday, oil ministry spokesman Assem Jihad said in a statement that oil production in Iraq was expected to rise to three million barrels per day by the end of the year, from around 2.5 million barrels at present. Oil revenues account for the lion's share of Iraq's government income.
  9. February 2, 2011 Around Iraq, TVs in offices, cafes and homes are tuned to live feeds of the protests in Egypt. It seems like all of Iraq is talking about what it might look like if another longtime Arab dictator falls. Yet, as with a lot of things in Iraq, the reaction to the uprising in Egypt depends on whom you ask. In a Shiite neighborhood, amid the battery of checkpoints, one policeman says he figures he ought to be more polite now, because people might take to the streets and try to get the police fired. And that sentiment goes beyond the checkpoints. In local newspapers, one official warned of problems like a coming "unemployment volcano" and said the people could erupt at any time. Others pointed fingers at their rivals, blaming them for lack of services. Still others were quick to make promises to take better care of common people. Reminders Of Iraq's Past In the middle-class, mostly Shiite neighborhood of Karada, Iraqi guys sitting around and smoking sheesha say they're excited about what's happening in Egypt. They say they're glad Iraqis aren't the only ones who looted in the midst of chaos. Now, they say, maybe Egyptians won't be so quick to judge. "They were criticizing us, accusing us of being Ali Baba, which means thieves," says Alaa Abdulkarim. "But now they are doing the same thing." Down the street, some older, perhaps wiser, men are playing dominoes. When asked about Egypt, journalist and writer Sabah Hassan recites some Arabic poetry: "If the people want life, then destiny should respond." But, he says, it's bittersweet to watch the Egyptian people rise up against a dictator. The Iraqi people did the same, he says, 20 years ago. This was after the first Gulf War, when protests swept the south and north of Iraq. "Iraqi people did fight Saddam [Hussein]," he says. But "there was no media to cover everything, there was no media to talk about it — just like no one knew what was happening in Iraq." No live feeds on Al-Jazeera. Eventually, the uprising was suppressed. It was 12 more years before the dictator fell. Change From Within Across town is the mostly Sunni neighborhood of Mansour — where people were much more likely to be loyal to Saddam, and much more wary of the idea of regime change. At a street stall, they are cooking hamburgers Iraqi-style, meaning that the meat is lamb and the french fries go inside the bun. Owner Jassim al Hilli says it's galling to watch the Egyptian people do the job of toppling the strongman, when in Iraq it took an occupying force to bring him down. "For most of the Arabic countries — actually all the Arabic countries — they like freedom and they like to do it by themselves," he says. "It's not like someone else would come and do it for you." 'We Have Elections' Ibrahim Sumydai, an Iraqi political analyst, agrees that many Iraqis are still angry that they weren't the ones to topple Saddam. But he says he doubts the spirit of mass protest will spread here. At least not right now. First, he says, Iraqi society is still divided. If Shiite leaders were to lead mass protests, Sunnis would probably sit out — and vice versa. That said, there are things that unite Iraqis: anger at a continuing lack of electricity, which brought both Sunnis and Shiites to the streets last summer; unemployment despite rising oil revenues; and the ongoing lack of security. "I think maybe we will face increasing calling for good services. But all the Iraqi people feel they are guilty because they brought [these] politicians in power," he says. And they can take them out of power, if they want. This, he says, is a privilege the Iraqis have now, a privilege the Egyptians want. "We have elections. We have free elections." Right now, Sumydai says, Iraqis should focus on rebuilding the country, not breaking it down. Like those of many others, his message to Egypt was simple: Be careful what you wish for. Steve thinks trouble is coming in a big way for Iraq 7. People there are not happy ********************************************************************************* I spoke to Ray yesterday several times and he has been in direct contact with his Iraqi sources. They are now saying this will drag out a bit longer. They are still telling Ray and I that nothing will happen until they get a government seated. They are still having issues over the Security position. I am truly not sure how much longer the people will go before some sort of demonstration will start to take place. I will share more later on the ration cards that we were told about regarding what you can and cannot purchase on them They (Iraqi people) are not happy at all. I see trouble coming in a big way. I am so thankful I live in the USA and wake up to a somewhat government every day that is at least authentic. Blessings, Steve ORIGINALLY POSTED BY JUSTWAITINGFORIT

  13. * Baghdad Arab Summit will be held on schedule, Egypt’s events won’t affect it, MP says FEBRUARY 1ST, 2011 12:05 PM · POSTED IN NEWS (IRAQ & WORLD CURRENCY) 2/1/2011 KARBALA / Aswat al-Iraq: The next Arab Summit shall convene in Baghdad in its scheduled time next March and the current incidents in Egypt or any other country won’t affect its holding, the Legislature from the National Coalition, Abdul-Mahdi al-Khafaji said on Tuesday. “The Arab Summit, scheduled to convene in Baghdad next March shall be held in its scheduled time and the current events in a number of Arab states, including Egypt, won’t change that; and we do hope that all Arab states would attend the Summit,” Khafaji told Aswat al-Iraq news agency. Khafaji said that “the current events, in Egypt, Tunisia or any other Arab state, won’t delay the time of the Arab Summit, because there is always somebody to represent peoples in such Summit, be it this president or that,” adding that “the current events in some Arab states are internal affairs, as the current protests in Egypt are related to the Egyptian Arab People, though we hope there would be response to the people’s voice, in order to avoid further bloodsheds.” “What we want is that demonstrations would not change into the destruction of the infrastructure , but to change into peaceful demonstrations that will achieve the people’s goals, the same as what happened in Tunisia, people of whom have managed to change the regime, without affecting the infrastructure,” Khafaji concluded. 14. Council confirmed the province of Najaf, today, Monday, to maintain the amount received about three and a half billion Iraqi dinars from the proceeds of Najaf refinery, indicating it is the first installment to be paid to the province of the petro-dollar program for the year 2010. The head of the Najaf provincial council Fayed, al-Shammari, said in an interview for “Alsumaria News”, “Najaf is one of the provinces benefiting from the program of petrodollars, the share of the operation of Najaf refinery some 6 billion and 470 million Iraqi dinars last year 2010,” noting that “the province received Today, the first installment of dues and an estimated three and a half billion dinars. “ Shammari said that “money received by the province allocated to the sectors of electricity, education and municipal services,” noting that the province, “pending the receipt of the rest of their dues.” The director of the Najaf refinery Leith Gharrawi said in an interview earlier “Alsumaria News”, that “the refinery achieved an increase in production in 2010 amounted to 80% compared to the previous year.” The work was the establishment of the first phase of Najaf refinery started in 2006 by one unit, and then added the two additional units into three units and to increase its production of ten thousand to thirty thousand barrels per day. The Iraqi Council of Representatives approved at its previous session, a government program called petro-dollars, and to grant oil-producing provinces Astkraja or refinement, the amount of one dollar for every barrel. The program to achieve significant revenues to the provinces that are available on the wealth of oil such as Basra, Maysan, Kirkuk, while depriving the provinces other than oil to take advantage of the program, with reference to the provinces of Kurdistan region do not receive money from the petro-dollar because the government of the province does not apply the program to have.
