The INA announced last week that they are boycotting all talks with the SLC as long as the SLC continues to support Maliki's candidature. The winning Iraqi political parties were to attend a parliamentary session on July 27, but the session was postponed indefinitely because the heads of the parliamentary blocs failed to agree upon the nomination of the new parliamentary speaker and his two deputies. The first attempt to hold a parliamentary session on June 14 was adjourned after just 20 minutes of talks. Iraq's political process has remained in a deadlock since the March 7 parliamentary elections which produced no clear winner. The Independent High Electoral Commission of Iraq issued the final results of the vote in late March. Allawi’s al-Iraqia list had secured 91 parliamentary seats. Maliki’s State of Law Coalition won 89 seats, the INA came third with 70 seats and a combination of Kurdish groups secured 57 seats. Maliki subsequently joined with the INA in order to form a larger coalition but this new union still does not have enough seats in the 325-seat parliament to get a majority. Ba//Ka/AKnews
