  1. I'm glad Othman called it like he sees it. (I happen to agree with him.) They need to be wary of "help" offered by Obama and follow their own path to a form of democracy that works for their country. Unfortunately, from now until after our election the United States HAS NO ACTIVE PRESIDENT. We have a guy holding the office, who is working FULL TIME on his own re-election. Obama's doing just about the same thing Maliki is in so much trouble for - working to preserve is own power and letting the people of the country suffer. Why take advice from someone who has proven himself incapable of doing the job?
  2. Funny! 6 months ago you couldn't have PAID me to agree that Sadr had the potential to be one of the good guys. Well, I've been wrong before. He's sure proving his value now.
  3. Zig, this article seems to be dated 02/03/12. Before the Arab Summit. Is there some current significance to it that I'm missing? It is good to see what Iraqis feel about Talibani though. He seems to have a clear head and a heart for his people. I wish his presidency carried more power!
  4. I have an easy solution... Throw out the quorum rules. Whoever shows up gets to vote! GO RV (please, please, please, pretty please!!!)
  5. This is great... Exactly the sentiment needed to move their country forward. I would hope that every Iraqi has a chance to read this and every government official has to sign off on it. I know. I'm dreaming... But I'm glad it's out there. Good to know some of them 'get' what democracy is all about! These translations crack me up though. "....and tell them your name, oh great people that swim in the murky waters of no avail". Huh? LOL.
  6. Well see that's part of the problem. I haven't decided yet if i'm going that route or not. That's why i'm asking it in a generic sort of "what's the consensus" type of question. I'm getting lots of advice that I should just bite the bullet, pay the "man" and be done with it. If that is what I finally decide, I'd like to know what paper trail I need in those various circumstances.
  7. I hope my question is not buried too deep in this thread to get a response. I have looked for this answer for a good long time now.... Pls direct me to the answer if it is here somewhere. To the tax attorneys out there: I am wondering if there is a consensus on what kind of paper trail is going to be required - do I have to have receipts for all of my purchases for the IRS at tax time? What if I bought some from a friend? What if I received my dinar as a gift - or gave some as a gift? What type of receipt works when a group makes a purchase? What kind of pitfalls might there be with our paper trail? Thanks in advance!
  8. Ya... A little research might be warranted here, Brisco, but not by me. I don't mind having a conversation AFTER you actually R-E-A-D what I said. Thanks in advance. Thanks, glo. I'll check it out then get back to you.
  9. I described it above... "Red tones, probably art". Etc. I do all my RV checking on my phone and once I click out of DV, the gallery pictures change. If I figure out how to go to the archives and find that picture, I'd be interested in a further discussion of it or at least respond to the person who posted it.
  10. If the BETTY portion of my comment is the only thing people are going to comment on here, then this thread is a waste of time and should probably be closed. BTW: how does my byline "... Killing a baby" have any connection to BETTY?? Just sayin'. However, I wouldn't mind finding out how to go back and find that picture that I "reacted" to in the first place... Anyone know how to do that? Those gallery pictures change every time I log in - are they archived somewhere? Thanks Bodeen. Had no idea what I was walking into...
  11. Thanks Markinsa. I will use the report button if I need to. Sorry, I didn't know about it. To Betty; ET AL. Your response is completely off base in reaction to what I ACTUALLY said in my original post. You have blown me up over your assumptions of what I meant. I actually said what I meant - "way too many" iterations of your picture. That was my opinion then and that is my opinion now.... Nothing about you or your position of high regard in the community... Nothing about your clothes... Or the lack thereof. You guys made all of that up yourselves. Sorry that you chose to be "furious" over it. Can we move on? Shake?
  12. Hi all. Happy Thanksgiving. No, I did not bail on the conversation... Just had a couple of family events going. I didn't complain about how Betty is dressed, just that there's an overload of pictures of her.... I always thought it was kind of a stupid cartoon and I come here to a DINAR INVESTEMENT SITE and find it about HALF of the time. Grr. Just my two cents. Interestingly enough my original complaint has no specific respomses... So maybe no one else saw it. Does this ring a bell with anyone? Mostly red tones... Probably artwork. Is that Obama in the crowd on the left? Baby is laying on a board in the middle of a room full of people... Central figure above the baby is holding a long dagger-looking knife pointed at the baby. That's what I was reacting to so the shock value worked - a little too well in my case, it seems. I thought more about it (yes, I actually do have a brain) and realized it just might be a "political" satire piece. ... Could the baby be the fledgeling Iraqi democracy!? And was this a commentary on whoever or whatever is trying to stop them from being successful? My apologies to those of you whom I offended. I intended no harm... My original comments were actually directed to those who manage the site.
  13. Hmm. Hi Myst: My comment was about the pictures only - not the people. I just think DV should use some disretion.. Maybe you'll feel the same way when that picture makes its way to you. I love it that your two cents are worth the same as my two cents.
