Al-Attiyah: Ministers discussed the economic relations during their meeting

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Dr. Mohammad Sabah said that the ministerial meeting of the GCC countries discussed issues of concern to the Gulf region, especially the issues of security and stability.

The Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Dr. Mohammad Al-Sabah, a member of the Kuwaiti delegation at the session of 65 of the General Assembly of the United Nations, the night before last, the Ministerial Meeting of the GCC, which is held annually in New York City on the sidelines of the General Assembly of the United Nations, and discussed in which issues of concern to the Gulf region, especially with regard to security and stability.

In a statement to the Arab press after the meeting, said Sheikh Mohammed, in his capacity as current president of the Ministerial Council, the ministers examined the issues on the agenda of the General Assembly of the United Nations, «and in particular the issues that are directly linked to security and stability of the Arab region, particularly the Gulf region».

The cause of peace

He added that the meeting had reviewed the positions of countries in the region of the cause of peace, recalling the positions expressed by the leaders during the GCC summit held recently in Kuwait in regard to supporting the Palestinian cause and the establishment of just and comprehensive peace in the Middle East and the Israeli withdrawal from the Golan and the occupied Lebanese territories.

The meeting also discussed issues related to achieving the goals of the third millennium, and highlighted the significant progress achieved by the GCC countries in this area.

He said the ministers decided to coordinate their work within the League of Arab States in relation to issues of concern to the Arab world as issues of Sudan and Somalia, and raise the international momentum to resolve these issues.

He said: «We also agreed to work actively to support the nomination of the State of Qatar to the presidency of the General Assembly, which will have an excellent reflection of the Arab issues, when the State of Qatar assume the presidency of the General Assembly» at its next session.

Iran's role

Asked about his assessment of the Iranian role for the security of the Gulf region in general, Sheikh Mohammed: «We always confirm that Iran is a big country in the region, and we want to have good relations and prosperous with neighboring Muslim Iran, and in the same time we want that Iran will play a positive role security in the region, and since there are international resolutions, it is required from Iran to deal positively with these decisions in order to defuse any tension in the region, and we therefore reiterate our request from our friends in Iran to deal positively so that we can turn the page, especially in the case of the program Iran's nuclear ».

He added that «is required to confirm the peaceful nature of the program, and I think that Iran has confirmed several times, but now need to respond to the requirements of the international resolution to confirm the peaceful program».

On the possibility of a military confrontation in the Gulf region, Sheikh Mohammed said: «rejected a military confrontation», a reminder that the Gulf region has suffered enough from the military conflict since Saddam Hussein's occupation of Kuwait, and they want to pay attention to the development of its states and prosperity of its citizens, and put their efforts and resources to raise would the Gulf citizen.

The goal of the summit of the Arab Economic and Development held in Kuwait is paying attention even for a moment the suffering of Arab citizens, and care for life and living, work, education and health, because those are the things development that creates real value of the Arab citizen in the long run, «and we're gonna always been that we do not want any armed confrontation, and we want to have a serious cooperation with the resolutions of international legitimacy ».

Chapter VII

In response to a question about going out of Iraq under Chapter VII of Sheikh Mohammed said the first country you wish to do this is to Kuwait, because this means that Iraq has completed implementation of the decisions, and that «we have repeatedly stressed that we are ready to help Iraq, and we in fact help him to complete the implementation of the decisions , because that is the way out from under Chapter VII ».

And the peace process in the Middle East, Sheikh Mohammed as an issue of contract between the parties.

For his part, praised the Secretary General of Gulf Cooperation Council, Abdulrahman al-Attiyah told Al »Kuna» TV and Kuwait after the meeting, chaired by Kuwait, whether represented by His Highness the Emir of the country or in the person of His Highness the Prime Minister or Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, said: «They come always results that we desire, and we look forward to it, and bring benefits to the Gulf Cooperation Council », adding that the foreign ministers of the Gulf Cooperation Council discussed during their economic relations with friendly countries like the European Union and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and China and the Russian Federation and the Rio Group, and will meet with representatives of these parties this week in New York on the sidelines of the General Assembly.

The meeting was attended by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the United Arab Emirates Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Bahrain, Sheikh Khalid bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, Foreign Minister of Saudi Arabia Prince Saud Al-Faisal and the Secretary General of Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Sultanate of Oman Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi, Minister of State for international cooperation in Qatar, Dr. Khalid Bin Mohammed Al-Attiyah.

To discuss with his Greek counterpart ways to strengthen political and economic relations

The Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Dr. Mohammad al-Sabah with Greek Foreign Minister Dimitris Drostas ways to strengthen political and economic relations between the two countries. The Sheikh Mohammed took part yesterday in an international meeting in the United Nations to help Pakistan, which experienced disastrous flooding.

The meeting was attended by UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon and U.S. Secretary of State Hillarious Clinton and representatives from the World Bank and Asian Development Bank, donor organizations and international organizations, such as the Organization of the Islamic Conference and the Gulf Cooperation Council, who played the role of «important» in aid to Pakistan.
