How long does Corona remain on the surfaces of banknotes? ... A medical study answers

Baghdad - People

It is known that touching surfaces is one of the most common ways of transmitting the emerging corona virus, and for this reason, many consumers in the world have accepted electronic payment instead of paying in cash, given the possibility of transmission through securities.

According to a recent medical report, the Corona virus can remain for weeks on the surface of banknotes, and it remains able to transmit the infection to others during this period.

The American "Bloomberg" network, followed by "People" (October 11, 2020), stated that the virus also lives for a long time on glass surfaces and other things, and this matter increases the spread of the epidemic.

Researchers from the Australian Center for Disease Preparedness revealed that the virus, known in the scientific community as "SARS Cove 2", lasts for 28 days on soft surfaces such as glass, phone screens and plastic banknotes at room temperature or 20 degrees Celsius.

Accordingly, this virus remains on surfaces for a longer period compared to the virus that causes regular influenza and lives only 17 days.

As for when the temperature reaches forty degrees Celsius, the life span of the virus on the aforementioned surfaces changes, and it drops dramatically to less than one day, meaning that it dies quickly.

The study published in the journal "Virology" specialized in epidemiology, that the Corona virus lives longer in cold weather, which means that dealing with it in the winter will be more difficult than in the summer.

The researchers hope that these results will help to predict the rapid spread of the new Corona virus in the coming months, amid fears of an increase in positive cases due to the winter turnout of severely affected countries in December.

Including currencies and mobile phones ... Corona lives for weeks on hard surfaces

{International: Al Furat News} A new Australian research concluded that the emerging corona virus can survive on surfaces for up to 28 days.

The research, conducted at the Australian Center for Disease Preparedness (ACDP) in Jilong, found that the coronavirus can live for up to a month on surfaces, including banknotes, cell phone screens, and stainless steel.
The study, which was conducted over the course of a whole month, showed that the virus lasts longer when the temperature is lower, and the researchers also found that sunlight can neutralize the effect of "SARS Cove-2", which is the virus responsible for "Covid 19".
How long the virus survives on surfaces has been a matter of great controversy among scientists since the start of the pandemic in the first months of this year.
The research also indicated that the virus lives longer on smooth surfaces such as glass and stainless steel compared to other surfaces such as cotton, while the research shows the ability of the Corona virus to remain contagious in airborne particles for a period of more than three hours.
Deputy Director of the Australian Center for Disease Preparedness, Debbie Eagles, said the need for "good practices like hand washing" should be strengthened to combat the spread of the virus.
She added: "At 20 degrees Celsius, which is the room temperature, we found that the virus was very strong, as it lived for 28 days on smooth surfaces such as glass on mobile phone screens and banknotes."
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in the United States has listed a number of surfaces that people should avoid touching with unwashed hands, to prevent the spread of the Corona virus.
The centers have identified 15 surfaces that people must not touch until after washing their hands to limit the spread of the disease.
Eagles, who is also working on testing a possible vaccine for the virus, confirmed that "

A deputy appeals to the ministries of higher education and education to reduce the wages of private education for the next academic year

{Baghdad: Al Furat News} MP Mansour Al-Baiji appealed, on Monday, to the Ministries of Education and Higher Education to reduce tuition fees for private education for the new academic year due to the economic situation the country is going through.

Al-Baiji said in a press statement that "the reduction in tuition fees for private education for the current year was not at the required level despite the suspension of work hours in schools and universities until the sums were taken from the students' families after the reduction by the Ministries of Education."
Al-Baiji added, "We hope that the economic situation of the country due to the Corona pandemic crisis and the delay in paying salaries will be taken into consideration, the reduction of school fees for private and government education due to this crisis, and our dear students are taken into consideration so that this matter does not constitute a great pressure on their families."
Al-Baiji continued, "

Study: Corona virus lives 28 days on surfaces

A study published by the Australian National Science Agency today, Monday, revealed that the new Corona virus can survive on things like banknotes and phones for up to 28 days in cold and dry climates.

Scientists at the Australian Research Authority's Disease Readiness Center tested the ability of the "SARS-Cove 2" virus to persist in the dark and under three different temperatures, the agency reported on Monday.

Scientists found that at 20 ° C, SARS-Cove 2 was "extremely strong" on smooth surfaces - such as mobile phones - to live for 28 days on glass, steel and plastic banknotes.

At 30 ° C, its ability to survive was reduced to 7 days and at 40 ° C to only 24 hours.

The virus remained for less time on porous surfaces, such as cotton (up to 14 days at lower temperatures and less than 16 hours at higher temperatures), according to the researchers.

That period was "much longer" than previous studies had shown, which indicated that the virus can survive up to 14 days on non-porous surfaces, according to the study published by the "Virology Journal".
The director of the Australian Center for Disease Preparedness stated that for the study, samples of the virus were dried on various materials before testing using a "very sensitive" method that found traces of the virus capable of infecting cells.

"This does not mean that we say that this amount of the virus will be able to infect a person," he told the public network "ABC".

He added that if a person "was negligent about these materials and touched them and then licked his hands or touched his eyes or nose, he may be exposed to infection within a period of up to two weeks after contamination" of these materials.

Drew indicated that there are several reservations, including that the study was carried out at specific levels of the virus that are usually present at the height of the normal infection, and that it was not exposed to ultraviolet light, which can cause the virus to rapidly degrade.

And the humidity was fixed at 50%, according to the study, as it was found that high humidity harms the virus.

According to the Australian Research Authority, it appears that the virus is primarily transmitted in the air, but more research was needed to reveal the extent of the virus’s ability to move across surfaces.
Drew told ABC that the basic message had not changed, "People are much more contagious.

Study warns of coronavirus remaining on glass and cash for nearly a month

Monday 12 October 2020 - 09:49

The Coved-19 virus can live on banknotes, glass surfaces and stainless steel metal for up to 28 days, far more than the influenza virus, underscoring the need to clean and wash hands to fight the virus, Australian researchers said Monday.
Researchers at the Australian National Science Agency found that the SARS-cove-2 virus remains contagious at 20°C for 28 days on smooth surfaces, such as plastic banknotes and glass on mobile phone screens.
By comparison, it was found that influenza A virus lived on rooftops for 17 days.
Research by the Australian National Science Agency included drying the virus in artificial mucus on a set of surfaces at similar concentrations, to samples of Coved-19 patients and then extracting the virus a month later.
Experiments conducted in a controlled laboratory environment at 20, 30 and 40 degrees Celsius showed that the virus's survival period declined as the temperature increased, Reuters reported.
"Determining how long the virus actually survives on surfaces enables us to predict more accurately, mitigate its spread and enhance the protection of our people," Australian National Science Agency chief executive Larry Marshall said in a statement.
Proteins and fats found in body fluids can also significantly increase the survival of the virus.
Australia has achieved far better results than most other rich nations in the fight against Coved-19, with a total of 27,000 cases and 898 deaths, among its 25 million population.
