"More dangerous than Corona" ... Experts warn of "superbugs"

Antibiotic-resistant bacteria kill about 700,000 people annually Antibiotic-resistant bacteria kill about 700,000 people annually

Experts have warned of a global threat equal to or greater than the danger caused by the Corona pandemic, which has killed more than a million people around the world, according to the " Science Alert " website , which specializes in scientific issues.

Experts said that antibiotic-resistant bacteria do not receive the same attention as Covid-19, because the diseases they cause spread slowly and steadily, instead of sweeping the world in a short period of time, as it does with the Corona virus.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention confirms that nearly three million Americans annually contract bacterial infections that are resistant to antibiotics, of whom about 35,000 die every year.

Globally, resistant bacteria kill about 700,000 people annually, while the World Health Organization expects that, at current rates, about 10 million people could die from antibiotic-resistant infections annually by 2050.

As a result of the over-prescription of antibiotics, the increased use of antibiotics in livestock, and other factors, many types of bacterial infections have become extremely difficult to treat, including strains of gonorrhea, tuberculosis, and salmonella.

This is because the tiny fraction of bacteria that survive these antibiotics develop, multiply and develop resistance.

"The world is not talking about this threat enough," says Professor of Medicine at the University of California, San Diego, Stephanie Strathde. "Unlike Covid-19, which suddenly appeared and swept through countries, the superbugs crisis was raging."

"It is indeed a pandemic. It is indeed a global crisis, and it is getting worse under the coronavirus," she adds.

He continued, "A lot of attention and resources that will be devoted to threatening bacteria are currently being directed towards trying to defeat Corona virus, and this means that a pandemic may, on the contrary, exacerbate the problem of antibiotic-resistant bacteria.

The World Health Organization says that antibiotic resistance can harm anyone, regardless of age and country of residence, and may also cause an extension of hospital stays, higher medical costs and an increase in the death rate.

Hopefully, Humanity will survive in spite of medical science. Time will tell

Symptoms are very similar ... how do we distinguish between influenza and corona?

Colds, influenza, and coronaviruses such as the emerging corona virus are considered infectious viruses that affect the respiratory system, the symptoms of influenza and corona virus are similar, so how do we distinguish between them?

Symptoms are so similar that it may sometimes be difficult for the doctor to distinguish between them until after the patient has made the necessary tests. Symptoms of corona and primary flu vary from one patient to another and appear in the form of high temperature and weakness in the body, shortness of breath and runny nose, strong headache, diarrhea and loss of appetite. But what distinguishes corona from it is that the patient loses the sense of smell and taste, and his symptoms increase from the fifth day of his infection until the tenth day.

There are some differences in the symptoms of both influenza and the emerging corona virus, according to the "Medicine Web" website, as the symptoms of influenza are more than the symptoms of the emerging corona virus.

The symptoms of influenza are the following, although not all of the symptoms may appear in an infected person: -

Cough.
-fatigue.
-Fever.
-shudder.
Headache -
muscle and body aches.
-Runny nose.
Stuffy nose
-Sore throat.
Vomiting and diarrhea.

The common cold may include a fever, but it is less severe and often affects only the upper respiratory system, causing simple sinus congestion, runny nose and coughing.

The following are the main symptoms of the emerging corona virus:

-fever.
A dry cough that may be accompanied by phlegm.
-Shortness of breath.
Severe pains in the muscles and the body.
-Sore throat.
Loss of sense of smell and taste.

There are some rare symptoms of the emerging corona virus, namely: -

Diarrhea.
Nausea
-Runny nose.
This means that the initial symptoms of the emerging corona virus have less impact on the respiratory system, but their severity increases over time to become more dangerous, because it causes pneumonia and acute respiratory syndrome, and may lead to serious diseases.

It has also been observed that many people infected with the emerging coronavirus may not display these symptoms.

Duration of the incubation period

The incubation period for influenza differs from the emerging corona virus, in the case of influenza, the period between the occurrence of infection and the appearance of symptoms is short.

As for the case of infection with the emerging corona virus, the first symptoms can begin to appear after a longer period of up to 14 days, and during this period the infection can be transmitted from one person to another.

Disease complications

Influenza is a common disease, especially in the winter season, which is not dangerous to the body most of the time, as it is easy to eliminate through antiviral medicines, get rest, and drink warm fluids, but in some cases it can cause serious complications in the body.

As for the new Corona virus, it poses a danger to the body in many cases, as it can cause many health problems resulting from shortness of breath and damage to the cells of the respiratory system, especially with no treatment available for it.

There is no treatment to eliminate the Corona virus yet, and therefore a patient who becomes infected with the virus only gets medicines that help relieve symptoms, and needs medical care in the hospital so that he is treated in the event of serious symptoms such as shortness of breath and others, and he must be isolated Completely so as not to cause infection.

protection

Influenza can be prevented by taking the annual influenza vaccine, as this vaccine helps reduce the chances of infection and relieve its symptoms in the event of infection.

As for the new Corona virus, no vaccine has been issued yet, and therefore the methods of prevention are to wash hands constantly well, avoid sick people, be in crowded places, and not touch different surfaces as much as possible, and in the event of contact with them, hands must be washed immediately and use of sterilizer continuously. .

And recently, the talk about remdesivir to combat the Coronavirus began after the results of a promising clinical trial were launched, and after the experiment revealed that it could speed up recovery in some patients. It should be noted that those who receive this drug may experience side effects such as weak breathing, impaired body functions, and others.

And prevention remains better than a thousand treatments ... Wash your hands frequently, wear a mask, and keep a distance of at least two meters between you and the people you meet. And when you feel one of these aforementioned symptoms, do not hesitate to consult a doctor and undergo a PCR examination to ensure the correctness of your infection with the Coronavirus.
