You guys need to lighten up on puff26. If you know anything about Ray and Steve you know that they aren't lopsters. They obviously are talking about the new lower denoms that will be introduced as the higher denoms are removed. I'm not saying that I believe this source, but the message isn't the re denomination of the dinar but the RV of the dinar.

Oil is off a bit from Tuesdays highs but still extremely painful at the pump
Gold rolling downhill presently after running in a two day channel
Zeroes ... near ... with cash accounting for 2.09M or 1.26% of the total
I just sent my group last night's KTFM post. Tuesday's was very cryptic ... Wednesday he said that only the newbies would have a hard time understanding Tuesday's post. Not so. Wednesday's is a bit of a tease for Thursday's chat ... it did answer some questions ... but it was a tease. Now most of you know that I am indeed a fan of Frank26 but I'm going to complain just a bit this morning ... you see he has asked members listening to the Thursday chat NOT to post what was said.
Here's my problem with that ... when I had lots of time I spent it scouring the news/net for info about the IQD RI/RV ... as does he ... hours and hours ... but when my wife comes home ... I'm not spending 30 minutes on a chat much less 1.5-2 hrs (or more) ... just not happening ... my relationship with my wife (next to God) is the most important thing in my life! I'm banking the time with her!
Traditionally (Monday chat is still transcribed), I would read a transcript the next morning (thankful to those who recorded and transcribed) and I could cover it in 15-20 minutes tops ... and remain apprised of where his team was regarding intel/info/supposition etc. ... and I value that. And NO ... I'm not blasting or taking a shot at Frank26, his team, or KTFM ... as I appreciate them and their work immensely. I just think that this is a policy that they didn't think through completely. It might raise participation numbers, set records or whatever ... in practice it is counter productive for those of us serious about trying to stay on top of Iraq/IQD AND put our family above our investment. That said I would really appreciate it if that were to change ... as would the "hard core" portion of my group!
OK ... enough of that ... I saw some requests for me and so forth the last couple of days ... the truth is this ... I didn't think I had anything to say that ADDS anything ... so I didn't! That's all. If I spend the time to do this I want to contribute in some way ... I hate it when my time is wasted ... I don't want to waste anyone else's.
And ... the news the last two days (with a couple of exceptions mostly posted later in the day) just seemed like section B C D and even F of the local paper ... do you know what I mean? Nothing worthy of front page ... even on section B! They just didn't seem to be worth commenting on. Then almost simultaneously ... every bit of intel I had coming on three different fronts dried up! I know ... makes you wanna' go hmmmmmmmmm ... doesn't it?
Let me look at this mornings news ... whoaaaaaaaaa ... that was scary ... I clicked the wrong button and ended up in the rumor section ... narrowly escaped ... OMGosh, you really need flame retardant underwear in there!
Let me try again ...
OK now that I have voiced my displeasure with not posting the Thursday CC I'm going to quote Frank26 and his team (I told you ... I like and appreciate them ... they just made a decision without thinking it out completely ... that's all). Frank26 and his team pointed out that al-Maliki is busy playing the clown doing everything he can to get your attention and draw it away from Shabibi (whom you haven't seen in a long while), the USTreasury reps, and the CBI ... and this mornings news would bear that out ... (he also said that when you see Shabibi again ... it will be time to do some serious praising and thanking!)
Al-Maliki Demands the parliament more powers to remove ... and the list goes on.
This one was voiced by one in my group as a huge problem ... Major oil pipeline sabotaged by insurgents ... I agree that it isn't optimum but it only transfers 1/4 of their exports ... additionally, I believe that it is one of three that they have (one through Syria and one to Basra) ... and will probably drive the price of oil up and possibly cover their loss of delivery by means of price. To me it speaks more to the fact that al-Maliki does need to "crap or get off the pot" ... just sayin'!
Started to get all excited about this one ... The Central Bank of Iraq: Iraq, succeeded in providing a cover of foreign currency ... turns out it's another Mohammed Saleh article ... repeat don't believe until corroborated elsewhere
Here's my favorite ... Deputy Prime Minister: Al-Maliki should resign if there is no response to the demonstrations.
No wait ... this is Iraqi Federal Court standstill about independent bodies
Oh ... Sam R. told me to give a shout-out to Alza C. ... hi Alza!
That's all that I have time for this morning but I don't see anything else (yet) worth talking about.
Peace to all

Peace to all.
I'm fine ... haven't had a great deal to say and I am adhering to the idiom ... if you don't have something nice to say ... don't say anything.
Really I've had nothing to say that was worth reading.
Thanks for your concern ... I'm fine.

I have a question about this. I have seen this thing at 1170 for sometime. Shouldn't this be rising a little based on the improvements over there? Thanks.
Nope ... it is a "pinned" currency.

Currency Auctions
Announcement No. (1849)
The latest daily currency auction was held in the Central Bank of Iraq on the 7-MAR-2011.
The results were as follows:
DetailsNotesNumber of banks19
Auction price selling dinar / US$1170
Auction price buying dinar / US$-----
Amount sold at auction price (US$)130,834,000
Amount purchased at Auction price (US$)-----
Total offers for buying (US$)130,834,000
Total offers for selling (US$)-----
Dollar's exchange rates / in Baghdad markets
As you can see ... everything is up ... a bunch!
Oil ... as you can see by the bottom numbers, oil went up $2.51 on Friday ... but (by the top numbers) it is already up $2.28 this morning. This bodes well for our blessing ... and very badly for our country.
Gold ... continued it's climb from the NYMEX open Friday, which continued Sunday, and is rising this morning ... in fact all precious metals are up significantly ... again, perfect storm weather ... bad for America
Zeroes ... near ... cash portion is 2.309M of the 130+M or 1.77% with 19 of 22 banks participating at moderately low volume (yesterday was 1/2 this but the lowest in some time.)
OK, a quick look at the news ... I haven't much time and that headache hasn't backed off.
Hummmmmmm ... the thing that strikes me most significantly about the news is that our news hounds are much busier than the Iraqi PM and the parliament. I wish that was funny ...
Well ... Allawi's name is in more articles than it has been in the last month combined. Some with actual importance! If you read all of them ... well, K98nights said this:
My opinion isn't worth any more than yours... but I also believe the Iraqis are getting fed up with Maliki and his perpetual procrastination and stalling. Seems to me Allawi is setting himself up to benefit from Maliki's indecisiveness and lethargy.
Yep!
There appear to be more detentions after the last protest although one of the prominent headlines is ... Iraqi: to respond to the demands of protesters will confirm the legitimacy of the system
Now if that were true why would this be necessary ... The results of the demonstrations ... waiting for new resignations ... where is Harry Truman when you need him ... "the buck stops here" ... I know I'm beating a dead horse but ALL of this was and is on al-Maliki's watch ... just sayin' ...
Put this on the back burner ... Parliament will host Maliki Thursday
It's your call ... but I would look for Frank26's Sunday post ... not all that cryptic ... has an "up" air about it ... a slight "wait for it" ... you can say what you like but I think that Frank and his team's approach to this presently is dead-on.
Gotta' run ... there isn't much here ... but as I said our news hounds HAVE been busier than the PM and parliament ... whadayagonnado?
Peace to all

Currency Auctions
Announcement No. (1848)
The latest daily currency auction was held in the Central Bank of Iraq on the 6-MAR-2011.
The results were as follows:
DetailsNotesNumber of banks14
Auction price selling dinar / US$1170
Auction price buying dinar / US$-----
Amount sold at auction price (US$)77,887,000
Amount purchased at Auction price (US$)-----
Total offers for buying (US$)77,887,000
Total offers for selling (US$)-----
Dollar's exchange rates / in Baghdad markets
Here's where the numbers ended Friday
Oil up $2 over the day Friday
Gold ran up what $14?
Zeroes ... near ... here we go again ... low volume and miniscule cash portion of 329K with 14 of 22 participating
Well, I was awakened this morning by a headache and neither Excedrin nor caffeine has dispatched it so this will be short.
Ok ... I know that all of you have either participated or seen the demonstration in church, a leadership meeting, or a party ... where the leader writes down a phrase on a slip of paper and shows it to the first person in a line. That person turns to the person behind them and verbally tells them what was on the slip of paper. Each person in turn tells the person behind them ... passing the phrase along. When the person at the end is finally told ... that person writes down what he was told. Then that is compared with the original phrase. It is usually hysterical how disassociated from the original the latter is.
That's the way I feel about the NEWS ( and I use that phrase very loosely) coming out of Iraq presently ... are we clear?
At first glance, the operative word in the Iraqi news is probably "corruption" or a derivative ... whether exposing with it or dealing with it or good old fashioned finger pointing! Integrity commission names most corrupt ministries
Then we see that al-Maliki thinks it's more important to deal with the riots than deal with the CAUSE of the riots ... HIS inaction ... postpone the naming of the security/defense ministries ... The Parliament’s session on Sunday security ministries would not be discussed in the session ... this guy is unbelievable.
or
Then there is this ... Iraqi officials still indecisive over security ministries share ... the most disturbing item in this article is this ...
The Iraqi parliament gave confidence to part of the 42-seated cabinet of the reinstated Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki Dec.21. Some ministries including the defense, interior and state ministry for national security are temporary run by the PM himself until the new ministers are assigned. While I know that this sounds promising ...
Lana Mohammed another Kurdish lawmaker also believed voting on the security posts’ candidates is one of the priorities in the agenda of parliament for this week
... this follows it ...
there are two possibilities for naming the candidates; “either Maliki will hand the candidates’ names to the Council of Ministers, whether or not the blocs have agreed on them, or he may delay the list until the blocs reach an agreement over the issue.”Nahida Dayni, from al-Iraqiya said she will blame on Maliki not “the political blocs” any delay in voting.
“He has promised to submit the names for voting throughout this week and any delay in so doing sources from more deliberating on sharing the posts.”
The descriptor following the title eliminates the need for any comment Maliki to announce candidates for cabinet security posts next week How many times have we heard this???
In other words ... nothing's changed. Deal with the riots because that could get you thrown out/hung or both ... dealing with the reason for the riots ... that would violate whatever agreement he has going with whomever is pulling his strings. And no it's not the US administration.
Well the pounding in my head says "that's enough"
Peace to all

I could be wrong but I believe this one is about Izzat al-shabandar being miserable and looking saddened by his lack of fashion sense. Just out of the picture are Emmet Smith and Keith Hernandez holding a box of Just for men mustache and beard dye.
An hour later Izzat was spotted at the University of Baghdad wearing a toga, dancing with some sorority hotties and sporting a teriffic Mocha #9 beard and mustache.
He may be a bit late for the 11am meeting tomorrow.
Ok ... I'm down with that ... it's better than most of the news today ... might as well be entertaining. Gave you a "+" as well as Woody!

Nope ... it's Friday and there is no currency auction.
Oil is still climbing
Gold has settled a bit ... still insane
Silver is running in a $.80 channel
Here's a better look ... scary huh? ... $4/gal gasoline tends to shut down America ... now look at the 1 year forecast (bottom right) ... can you say GO RI/RV and do it in a hurry!!!!!!
A quick look at the news says one of two things:
1) the demonstration was small and semi-peaceful
2) the GOI/al-Maliki is really controlling what is coming out of Iraq to seem as though it was no big deal
Hundreds demonstrate in Tahrir Square
Most of protesters begin to leave after sending their demands
Anti-riot police dispersed the demonstrators in Basra with water hoses and sticks
We knew this was coming ... Demonstrators in Najaf accuse media of being partial to the government ... see #2 above
I had my doubts yesterday when we compared the news from last Friday's march where there were a reported 9 dead ... and the news from the demonstrators Wed/Thurs that they would be remembering the 29 martyred! I was asked several times which I thought it was ... I said I thought that the number was to be found somewhere between the two ... but who knows!
Here you go ... Anti-riot attack and beat journalists while covering a demonstration in Basra after you read it ... you'll not be sure who beat whom (bad translation but something to consider none-the-less).
Now this one subverts the "power sharing" agreement that was set up so that the winner wouldn't be PM and al-Maliki would ... Deputy in Iraq: We are looking for an alternative to Allawi for the presidency of the Council strategic
Keep an eye on this one ... CENTRAL BANKERS ~ FRIDAY, MARCH 4th MEETING
This looks promising ... Iraqi Parliament calls for representatives of the demonstrators to attend a meeting of the council tomorrow
If you read what I wrote yesterday you know that I lamented sharing info that I had received. While I had been receiving tons of info per day from a few key folks in my group ... starting yesterday ... there was/is NOTHING. Now when you try to keep your fingers on the pulse of Iraq ... the news has a feel ... when there's too much that tells you one thing ... when there's too little that tells you another ... it's kind of a Goldilocks situation ... and right now ... if I were to guess ... I'd bet on a gag order! JMO (see #2 above ... again ... lol)
I want to welcome K98nights back and thank all of the other news hounds that picked up the slack in his absence ... thank you ALL for your efforts.
Folks if you've never posted an article ... I believe that you should. First find something that HASN'T been posted and then see what it takes to get the headlines, the pics, the body, and the link onto the page ... then getting it into the right forum and setting the headline/topic and description. Then just about the time that you hit the post button with a smile of satisfaction on your face, you realize that either something isn't right with your article and you have to go edit it OR someone else posted it 11 seconds before you did. Now check the time and see how long that it took you. I promise that if you do this once or twice you will be a huge fan of the news-hounds, give them "+"s, rate their articles with stars, thank them when you comment on an article and OCCASIONALLY leave them a thank you on their profile!
That's all the time that I have ... have a great and prosperous weekend.
Peace

Hey Doc, quick question for ya?? After the RV, do you think the GOLD and Silver will be Countercyclical & drop?? I have not played with metals yet!!
Thanks again & I appreciate your opinion!!
IMO that would depend on whether or not the REPORTED IQD that the US govt has is in the FED or the Treasury ... "W" made it clear that this war would pay for itself ... okay ... the only way that works is for it to be in the treasury ... in that case the USD will be on steroids and the relationship between the USD vs Gold/Silver will indeed be anti or countercyclic. i.e. gold might still be high against the yen or the swiss franc (or some other currency depending upon how much IQD that their govts purchased) but significantly lower against the USD . Find a chart of gold against the big currencies and you will see that at times different currencies have done better than the others but NONE are doing well.
Peace

Currency Auctions
Announcement No. (1847)
The latest daily currency auction was held in the Central Bank of Iraq on the 3-MAR-2011.
The results were as follows:
DetailsNotesNumber of banks17
Auction price selling dinar / US$1170
Auction price buying dinar / US$-----
Amount sold at auction price (US$)156,289,000
Amount purchased at Auction price (US$)-----
Total offers for buying (US$)156,289,000
Total offers for selling (US$)-----
Dollar's exchange rates / in Baghdad markets
Oil ... can you say wow! ... getting tough at the pump though, isn't it ... I'm seeing more and more motorcycles every day.
Gold ... it already made it's move and is running in a $10 channel presently ... that is not to say that craziness won't drive it either way drastically. Go look at the 10 yr chart and the insanity is obvious.
Silver ... yesterdays post sparked a nice discussion on fear/speculation driving prices vs. ground availability and deep mining ... industrial consumption ... etc
Zeroes ... near ... but another "big gulp" day with the cash portion at 2.889M of the 156.289M or 1.848% with 17 banks participating on moderate volume.
Folks keep asking me if this is the "perfect storm" ... it is obviously the setup for it ... whether or not al-Maliki and Shabbibi tag-team it through this time is information beyond my pay grade!
I had something that I was going to write this morning and I'm going to switch right here.
I've told you that I have no embeds/key officials/UN/IMF/banking/etc sources and that the info that I've gotten was always 15th hand or worse. Of late ... much has been 3rd or 4th hand ... I know ... odd, right?! I didn't share it with anyone because I had no way to corroborate it except with time. As I realized that it was generally "on" except when there was something unexpected from M ... I began to share it with a close few. Then they began to see what I was seeing ... 2 or 3 sources saying related things from entirely different areas. When I give out that info I always tell them "you know that I don't know and that we won't be able to corroborate it until after the fact ... but I was told ... "
You know ... that should have been enough ... but when it doesn't unfold as we were told ... I feel like the boy who cried wolf. Most of you have figured out ... that isn't me. And it troubles me.
Where I live is the second hardest hit county in the nation regarding the economy ... things are awful ... everyone is hurting ... everyone knows someone who has lost a home, filed for bankruptcy, about to lose a home, car, credit rating, etc. or is on the move, move, move (yep, that's what I mean). The ones I know that have IQD are holding onto the hope that it will be timely and change all of that for them.
One of my "insiders" told me yesterday that he now understands why I don't tell another "insider" that he knows everything that I tell him ... that the guy he knows NEEDS this too badly and gets on the roller-coaster and gets a bit depressed when IT doesn't happen.
Now why did I tell you this? Glad you asked! It seems that everyone that I know that has IQD has some sort of "down-line" ... no I don't mean that it is a multi-level marketing situation ... just that you told someone and they bought IQD and now turn to you as the source for their info ... yep. Simply put ... keep your own counsel ... be careful who you tell ANYTHING ... I promise your reputation will be much better if you are silent ... but irrespective of that ... disappointment can be devastating to those with economic woes. You know that I don't rate or date ... but in the future I will be muzzling myself even more to make sure that inadvertently I don't PUT folks on the roller-coaster!
OK ... I told on myself so that you won't make the same mistakes.
I discussed yesterday how I am troubled over al-Maliki not taking responsibility ... that asking for the resignation of governors/etc and asking for the POWER to fire MP's that he believes aren't doing their jobs tips the power sharing arrangement squarely into his hands because it destroys the checks and balances of a democratic republic. The same afternoon the parliament is making noises like they will grant him this request ... you can stop calling him Prime Minister and go with something much more authoritarian!
This is big ... Central Bank: six banks had introduced electronic clearing
A good friend pointed out something to me that apparently we were both paying attention to ... that is the number of articles regarding corruption ... An international report: Iraq ranked third spread of financial corruption
Now don't get me wrong ... I can't rag on al-Maliki regarding his participation (Mr. Hotel owner among many) and then be against cleaning it up ... that isn't the issue ... it has to be dealt with ... they got used to the "rigged one arm bandit" that the US provided ... pull the lever and money falls out ... no accounting ... STOP. Yes, it has to be stopped and cleaned up ... should have long ago ... my issue with M is his stalwart refusal to take responsibility for any of it including his own involvement. Pure and simple ... if we dismiss his reported involvement ... it was ALL on his watch!
Here's a start ... Parliamentary integrity Commission is preparing to revise all concessions granted to deputies and Cabinet members since 2004
Here's hoping ... IMO the article is too dreamy though ... looks to be a sort of soothing presentation in front of tomorrow's protest ... Behind Iraq's protests, a call for better democracy
That's all the time that I have ... sorry I went on so long ... hopefully, it will help you keep your friends feet on the ground and off of the roller-coaster.
Peace

This is very bad news. That is the balance of a two (or more) party system ... this allows the PM to load the parliament in his favor and circumvent the democratic process. Saddam Lite ... Emporer ... call him what you like ... he has managed to land on his feet after a defeat at the polls, avoid the power sharing agreement, skirt democracy and grab for the brass ring. Nicely done mr maliki.

I showed you late in the day yesterday what oil had done
Gold ... officially insane ... it touched the $1435 level at 4PM yesterday and is presently running in a channel ... if memory serves it's a record ... if not ... it's still insane!
Zeroes ... moderate volume with 20 of 22 participating ... near but a 7/11 big gulp (post Oct 7th) with the cash portion at 2.359M against a 165.608M auction ... 1.42% ... I know, but still
I'm not qualified to talk about silver ... so I've posted a chart ... I was looking for a 1 yr and a 10 yr but this will show you what it's been doing the last three days ... see that continuous incline ... you get the picture.
Nah ... that still doesn't do it ... here you go
Yes ... I know ... that's why I decided to post it. Someone asked me last night whether this was a "perfect storm" ... my answer is ... at the very least the wind has sure picked up!
Two of the major IQD sites were down last night at roughly the same time ... one came up faster than the other. Caused quite a stir.
BofA on-line banking was down in many states yesterday. Caused another stir.
US TREASURY EXTENDS DROP DEAD DATE ... Wow ... if that one doesn't get your attention
Here's one you may not have read last week History and Effects of Government Shutdowns
http://usgovinfo.abo...t-Shutdowns.htm
I hope this doesn't signal a whole new round of luncheons Allawi calls on Maliki to the new round of negotiations ... several sources say these positions are already filled ... who knows
Iraqi Protest Scheduled For March 4th ... well boys ... whatyagonnado?
They need to RI/RV soon and let Shabbibi do his thing or this could get nasty ... Iraq Jan Inflation Rises To 5.3% Vs 3.3% In Dec - Ctrl Bank
malaki calls for new local elections ... if nothing else, this guy is predictable ... refuse responsibility and get others to resign, leave, face a new election or take the blame.
Wow here's a dangerous one ... Parliament Set to Approve Law Granting PM Authority to Dismiss Incompetent Ministers
I was scanning the news and realized that there is very little to look at ... then I realized that K98nights wasn't posting. I hope he is okay ... everyone deserves a break or to sleep in. Monster poster!
Well with that ... I bid you a good day
Peace

Oh … hey … just stopped in to post what oil did today and there are three pages here!
- thanks for all of the nice and lovely comments ... some of you folks are funny too!
- I'm not going anywhere and not sweating the small stuff
- I wasn't happy with Jack but my feelings weren't hurt or … whatever … not even really angry
- I do appreciate the majority of you having my back and you handling it for me. Very nice.
- I really didn't have much time this morning
- Someone said that I had empowered Jack … please … I gave him the opportunity to shine … he elected not to take that opportunity. That's okay
- What I said at the end of the post was absolutely true … I don't have any in-country “assets” that would give us any insight. All of you can do what I've done and I invite you to … really!
- I don't always have something to say that I would deem worth pondering … in those cases I simply go through the news and try to find a common denominator … folks that's all I've got! Math and patterns.
Drox … you are a wordsmith extraordinaire … wow!
I know the journey has been long … keep your feet on the ground and your chin up!
Peace to ALL
