    President of the Republic Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid affirmed, on Monday, Iraq's keenness to join the World Trade Organization by achieving the required trade and economic standards.

    The Media Office of the Presidency of the Republic stated in a statement, seen by "Economy News", that "the President of the Republic, Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid, received, on Monday, January 15, 2024, at Baghdad Palace, the Saudi Ambassador to Iraq, Abdulaziz Al-Shammari, and the representative of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to the World Trade Organization, head of the team on Iraq's accession to the Trade Organization, Saqr Al-Moqbel, and their accompanying delegation."

    He added that "at the beginning of the meeting, the Saudi ambassador conveyed the greetings of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman to the president and their wishes for the Iraqi people further progress and prosperity, while His Excellency the ambassador conveyed his greetings to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques and to the Crown Prince and his wishes for the Saudi people more prosperity and development."

    The President affirmed, according to the statement, "Iraq's keenness to join the organization by achieving the required trade and economic standards in this regard," praising "the role of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in bringing views closer and pushing for stability and peace in the region, and His Excellency also valued the efforts made by the team on Iraq's accession to the World Trade Organization and its meetings with the National Committee for the purpose of accelerating the completion of this file and contributing to the development of the trade system and achieving stability and sustainable development," noting "the importance of benefiting from The experience of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in this aspect."

    He added that he "touched on the positive developments in Iraq, which reflected positively on the overall lives of Iraqis," adding that "the government has attached importance to consolidating security and stability, developing and developing economic activity, encouraging foreign investment in the country, and to strengthening relations with neighboring countries and the world, and that Iraq was an effective member of most international organizations."

    In turn, the Saudi ambassador stressed the Kingdom's keenness to support Iraq in international forums and stand by it in promoting security stability, development and progress in the economic and energy fields, noting that "Iraq is moving forward towards the process of reform, development and progress in various fields."

    For his part, Saqr Al-Muqbel reviewed the results of his meetings in Baghdad, which took place with the Iraqi National Committee for the accession of the Republic of Iraq to the World Trade Organization, and his satisfaction with the steps taken by Iraq in order to implement the required standards, stressing "his country's support for Iraq's accession to the international organization."

    "Iraq's accession to the Organization is a gain for the region and the world, and will contribute to the development and expansion of progress in financial services and improve the environment for foreign investment," the head of the group said.

    Finance Minister Taif Sami revealed on Friday the existence of a program to restructure state banks.

    The Ministry of Finance said in a statement, seen by "Economy News", that "the Minister of Finance chaired an extensive meeting with representatives of the international company Ernst & Young, which specializes in auditing and financial consulting, in the presence of the general directors of Rafidain and Rasheed banks, the Agricultural, Industrial and Real Estate Bank, and the National and Iraqi Insurance Companies, in order to determine an action plan and initiate steps to merge, organize and restructure a number of the ministry's institutions in line with the objectives of the policy of reforming the financial and banking sectors in the ministry."

    She added that "the meeting discussed the draft submitted by Ernst & Young related to the organization and restructuring of Rafidain and Rasheed banks, the merger of the National and Iraqi Insurance Companies, discussing the proposed plan and implementation stages, determining the contract frameworks and formulating them in line with the priorities of reform and development, as well as discussing the study submitted by the company and diagnosing transformation obstacles and financial and legal solutions and treatments that ensure the safety of the merger and restructuring process."

    The Minister of Finance explained - according to the statement - that "the ministry has a program to restructure government banks and is working on it in cooperation with the Central Bank of Iraq and the relevant international organizations, adding that the process of merger, restructuring and the introduction of modern financial technologies, will push towards making Iraqi banks internationally and locally accepted to provide services to the government financial system and individuals at the same time, determine the roles of banks and subcommittees and determine contract periods," pointing out that "the ministry's vision includes a comprehensive review and evaluation of the work of banks and reforms Structural administrative, involving providing a package of integrated banking services to citizens and companies and making them more in line with the national economy that supports achieving sustainable economic development."

    Sami stressed the need to benefit from the expertise of sober international companies, which can play an effective and essential role due to their expertise and advice in drawing the right course for the projects implemented by the ministry in accordance with its financial policy that conforms to international standards and specifications.

    The statement added that "Ernst & Young is one of the leading international companies, and has extensive experience and achievements in this field to regulate the work of financial institutions and has a solid professional history through its review of many central banks, commercial banks and major companies in the region and the world."

    Baghdad /Nina/ Finance Minister Taif Sami Mohammed chaired, on Friday, a coordination meeting, at the ministry's headquarters, which included the Director General of the Accounting Department, the general managers of Al-Rasheed, Rafidain, industrial, real estate and agricultural banks and the employees Concerned therein, to discuss the requirements for the application of the unified treasure system.The minister stressed the need to prepare a minute and sign it by the Council of Ministers to take the necessary measures to implement the decision and the implicit paragraphs thereon without waiting for the first paragraph of recommendations No. 23453, which includes that all banks, represented by centrally financed spending units, submit the position of zero self-accounts, provided that they are signed by the Unified Treasury Account Committee.

    She pointed out that the Council of Ministers was notified of the accounts with adherence to the implementation of the recommendations received under the Cabinet letter without any obstacles, and the commitment of the Accounting Department and the banks concerned to withdraw the balances after (10) days of each month.
    The Minister of Finance added that: "A timetable is being prepared to call and know the departments that are reluctant to implement, and the need to re-check the amounts disbursed again with the statements, and direct the Rafidain and Al-Rasheed banks to Adhere to the first paragraph of the recommendations, and to prepare an inventory of all accounts that includes the name of the formation and the amounts and deposit them according to the type of account."
    On the other hand, a time date has been set with the formed subcommittees, mentioning the number of accounts of each bank and mentioning the amounts and they are withdrawn in the main account and a table is prepared for all self-accounts for more than 5 years in all banks and then submitted to the minister to take a recommendation on it and deposit it in the main account, and for less than 3 years the need to prepare a full statement of accounts to be deposited in the main account.

    The statement explained: "This comes within a series of meetings held to reform the public finance sector through the application of the unified treasure account, which represents a qualitative leap in the management of public funds, as the project will allow the possibility of monitoring the movement of funds and their safety and the application of the ministerial curriculum prepared by the ministry in order to keep pace with financial and economic progress."

  7. Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani said on Wednesday that the Baghdad exhibition represents one of the aspects of the relationship between Iraq and friendly countries, while stressing the progress with confidence in the implementation of the development road project.
     

     

    Al-Sudani said in a speech during the opening of the 47th Baghdad International Fair with wide international participation, "I welcome brothers, friends, companies and businessmen in Baghdad peace, the government has set a title and it was not a slogan, which is the establishment of real companies with brotherly countries."

     


    He added that "today was a special day, as we laid in the morning the foundation stone for the construction of a bridge on the Tigris River," noting that "the process of development and work for a strong, stable and prosperous Iraq has begun, we are following the tireless procedures of the Ministry of Commerce in registering companies."
    "We are proceeding with confidence in the implementation of the development road project," he said, calling on "companies and investors to engage with the Iraqi private sector."
