Advisor to the Prime Minister: The strong relations support the openness of the Omani and Iraqi markets

    image.thumb.jpeg.e9f93debd15698c55d5217fd0fa0ba79.jpeg

    20th April, 2021

The financial advisor to the Prime Minister, Mazhar Muhammad Salih, confirmed that the Omani and Iraqi markets are open to each other without hindrance as a result of the strong diplomatic relations that bind the two brotherly countries

Saleh described the Omani-Iraqi relations as "historical", explaining that the two brotherly countries have solid historical ties since Iraq received in the 1960s the expatriates of Omani students to study in Iraqi schools, colleges and universities, ending with the Omani labor market's acceptance of Iraqi expertise from various fields

Saleh pointed out in statements to the Oman News Agency, which was followed by "Al-Eqtisad News", that "there is complementarity between the Iraqi investment law in the promotion of investment and foreign investment on the one hand and the development of relations between Iraq and its Arab environment and its brotherly neighbors on the other hand, where integration and cooperation are in accordance with a priority that is advanced by it."

Investment as a center for consolidating and strengthening relations between Iraq and its neighborhood by providing the correct Iraqi climate for the flow of investment interests into the Iraqi economic arena

On the other hand, the financial advisor to the Prime Minister touched on the government measures taken to limit the economic crisis that Iraq is going through, noting that “the federal budget for 2021 remains a safety valve for the renaissance of economic activity, given that public spending constitutes approximately 50 percent of the composition of the domestic product.

The total in Iraq and the government economy is still the main driver of macroeconomic activity in the country

He explained that the launch of government investment projects on the one hand and the increase in banking credit activity provided to the Iraqi market economy with the support and support of the Central Bank of Iraq began to form a new road map that encourages private investment by facilitating government financial leverage towards operating the business sector and reducing unemployment levels

And he added that despite the reduction in the exchange rate of the Iraqi dinar for reasons related to the current account deficit of the balance of payments and the deficit of the government budget, the prices of goods and services have remained unchanged, which means the continuation of government support in addition to the expansion of the ration card program that targets the poorest classes

Saleh stressed that there are immediate policies to address poverty and to provide food and necessities that suit the livelihood of low-income classes in Iraq who are currently on the poverty line and maintain their lifelong sustainability.
The necessary foodstuffs, their regularity and number, in addition to reviewing the tariffs on the necessary foodstuffs to be the lowest possible to ensure that the demand for foodstuffs is met through the availability of adequate supply and at stable prices

He added that the monetary policy of the Central Bank of Iraq, through the policy of stability in the general level of prices, works to provide the desired foreign currency to finance foreign trade at a fixed exchange rate, which leads to price stability and price expectations in light of efficient foreign reserves in order to achieve price stability and moderation in the standard of living

Al-Kazemi waives the "secret" immunity from the most senior officials in the Iraqi state!

Readings: 822 Baghdad - Iraq today:

Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kazemi changed the strategy of the governments that preceded him, when he stopped the secret "immunity" that was granted to senior state officials, and allowed for the first time the Iraqi judiciary and oversight bodies to proceed with the follow-up of corruption files that were the cause of political will Therefore, large heads began to fall into the window of the anti-corruption agencies, and "all those involved in corruption files have become concerned," and some political forces can no longer defend their officials or try to prevent the judiciary from pursuing them.

Observer and political analyst Hassan al-Khafaji says to (Iraq Today), "The prime minister is proceeding well with his program designed to combat corruption and stop the corrupt at certain limits. Indeed, we see Al-Kazemi attached his program to this, with a more important step, which is" to lift the political and secret immunity that was set to protect Executives in front of the country.

He pointed out that "this clear government abandonment of any official involved in any file, but encouraged and strengthened the determination of the regulatory bodies in following up the suspended files, and pushed Al-Kazemi to speed up the elimination of corruption to turn around after years of disruption."

A source in one of the supervisory bodies, who refused to reveal his name to (Iraq Today), stated that "the government of Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kazemi has taken courageous, frank and strong steps towards building preventive measures to prevent corruption from penetrating, not to mention that it does not provide any political or legal protection."
For any party or person that suspicions of corruption may hover around it, so the work in the fight against corruption began to take an accelerated nature, and the huge files such as contract files, energy, electricity and other files began to open boldly and credibly in order to know which money Iraq was spent.

He pointed out that "all members of the regulatory bodies and their investigators are beginning to really feel that there is a governmental will to tackle and reduce corruption, and that legal accountability has begun to take its course at work."

He pointed out that "the judiciary has issued dozens of recruitment and arrest warrants and various rulings against senior state officials, current or former, which means that an advanced achievement has been achieved during the past months, and this is a necessary and decisive thing in the fight against corruption."

Political analyst Ali al-Rubaie said, in an interview with (Iraq Today), that "the prime minister's clear approach to tackling corruption had appeared since the first months to combat corruption, and the Diwaniya Order Committee numbered 29 is only one of the products of this unabated war on corruption. ".

"We can now talk strongly about the existence of a government will to pursue major corruption cases and close its destructive windows, as Al-Kazemi did in the two files of the notorious currency auction and the border outlets file," he said.

The Prime Minister’s Adviser for Financial and Economic Affairs, Muhammad Mazhar Saleh, confirmed today, Monday, that it is not permissible to float the currency in Iraq, indicating that this leads to the collapse of the market.

Saleh said that "it is not permissible to float the currency in Iraq because the market will collapse in this case," indicating that "the entry and exit of hard currency does not enter the market, which is only an exit for it, but the government is the one that brings this hard currency."

Saleh added, "If the government withdraws its hand, the supply will stop and the demand increases, and therefore the market will collapse."

He pointed out that “the problem in Iraq is that the market is asking and that the state is offering, and in the event that the Central Bank does not sell the dollar, it means that all the supply has stopped and there is no other offer. Because demand will be more than supply. "

He stressed that "the state is the bidder in Iraq, and therefore if the state tends to float, this means that there is no supply and thus prices collapse."

Floating currency is completely liberalizing the exchange rate, so the government or the central bank does not interfere in determining it directly, but rather it is secreted automatically in the currency market through the supply and demand mechanism that allows setting the national currency exchange rate against foreign currencies.

It is noteworthy that some officials talk from time to time on the need to float and liberalize the currency to preserve the hard currency reserves at the Central Bank.

War for Obelisk: Iraq's exit from the lists of high-risk countries is a victory for the government and the central bank

Baghdad / Obelisk: Legal expert Tariq Harb, Monday April 19 2021, considered Iraq’s exit from the British classification of high-list countries as a "political and economic victory" for the government and the Central Bank.

Harb explained in a statement to "Al-Obelisk", that many years have passed since the name of Iraq was included in the lists of high-risk countries, with the consequences of this staircase of great political and economic effects, perhaps the first and most important of which is the impact on investment and the reluctance of non-Iraqi companies to work in Iraq and the effects. The government and the Central Bank of Iraq have made great efforts, especially in the area of their cooperation, by taking the necessary measures regarding money laundering and terrorist financing.

He added: The Iraqi newspaper Al-Waqi’a has hardly been published and has been devoid of publishing international procedures and decisions, especially those issued by the special committee associated with the UN Security Council with regard to combating money laundering, terrorist financing and other charges related to seizing the money of those accused of money laundering and terrorist financing, even if they are not. Iraqis, a higher committee was also established in the Central Bank to combat money laundering and terrorist financing, and these and other measures, such as activating the Anti-Money Laundering and Terrorism Financing Law No. 39 of 2015, was therefore issued Resolution 392 of 2021 including raising the name of Iraq from among the countries with high risks and thus it deserved The government The Central Bank deserved praise and praise for their efforts in raising the name of Iraq from the lists of high-risk countries.

And the Central Bank of Iraq announced, last Sunday, that Iraq was removed from the British classification of high-risk countries.

In a statement, the bank stated that in the framework of the efforts of the Central Bank of Iraq and through the Office of Combating Money Laundering and Terrorist Financing in developing the business environment within the international compliance standards for combating money laundering and financing of terrorism, the British Treasury in the United Kingdom Government Department did not include the name of the Republic of Iraq in the lists. High risk countries according to Resolution No. 392 of 2021.

He added that the United Kingdom adopted the recommendations of the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) in classifying countries with high risks in terms of applying anti-money laundering and terrorist financing standards, after its exit from the European Union countries, and it promised Iraq is committed to keeping pace with and implementing international recommendations.

The fact that Iraq is not included in the list of high-risk countries is positively reflected in facilitating business and entering companies between the two countries, as well as supporting financial operations between the Iraqi banking sector and the United Kingdom

  17. A strategic partnership between MasterCard and the Central Bank of Iraq to develop payment systems

    image.jpeg.abbd2bb5968d5addeae3c2424c6905d2.jpeg

MasterCard signed a partnership agreement with the Central Bank of Iraq to digitize the payment systems in the country, in a move aimed at enhancing financial inclusion, advancing social and economic development, reducing the risks of the shadow economy, and accelerating progress towards a cashless society

The partnership aims primarily to build an efficient, reliable and secure payment system, which will start with the education sector and then expand to other sectors

Not only will this reduce the use of cash, enhance digital payments and increase government revenues, but also overcome significant operational and administrative deficiencies in the education sector by reducing the excessive use of manual processes

It is noteworthy that the population of Iraq, of 40 million, depends on cash payments on a large scale, as these payments are used in 99.8% of personal consumption spending transactions that amounted to $ 122 billion in 2019

However, this does not reduce the great opportunities available for digital transformation, as the country has a large smartphone penetration rate of up to 70%, and 22% of the population falls within the category of tech-savvy youth between the ages of 15 and 24

In addition, most students' parents and guardians have limited options for payment methods, as the majority of students use cash for all their payments.

In light of the fact that parents or students do not have bank accounts, or do not use online payment services, it is very important to work to encourage a change in the way school fees are paid, which will positively affect the payments system and the economy as a whole

Commenting on the partnership, Mrs. Doha Abdel Karim Mohamed said; Director General of the Payments Department at the Central Bank of Iraq:

The work that MasterCard has done in Iraq over the past few years has left a noticeable impact on the country's financial services sector and greatly enhanced levels of financial inclusion. We, in the Central Bank of Iraq, are fully aware of the vital role that the digital economy plays at this stage, especially enabling the formal economy to grow through a new payment system that is transparent, simple and effective. We also look forward to working with MasterCard to advance the digital transformation process in Iraq, starting with the education sector

”Khaled Al-Jabali, Regional President of MasterCard for the Middle East and Africa, said:“ Establishing a digital payments system is very important because it encourages economic development and contributes to Reducing the use of cash and the shadow economy as well.
Our work with the Central Bank of Iraq focuses on improving the efficiency of the economy as a whole, starting with educational institutions, by giving students, families and merchants a safer, easier and more comfortable way to pay

The partnership between MasterCard and the Central Bank of Iraq is an important shift that allows the development of an integrated digital payment system that covers the basic pillars of the economy in Iraq, including the use of public policies and systems to curb the shadow economy, the comprehensive modernization of the payments system, and the digitalization of key value chains

These measures include government revenues and payments, consumer spending, as well as business purchases and salary
    payments

Ever thought about what is the highest currency in the world today?

Most likely, you’re thinking now about British Pound, US Dollar, or Euro… Well, guess again.

There are at least a few currencies with a higher value than these three.
We’ve put together a list of the top 12 world’s highest-valued currencies in 2021 compared to the US Dollar and Euro.

You’ll be surprised to learn that being the most widely traded, USD is not even in the middle of the list, but almost at the end of it.

And if you want to see the flip side, compare this list to the top 10 of the weakest world currencies to see the significant differences.

    Highest Currency Ranking

So, which country has the highest currency value? Let’s start with a quick recap of the most valuable currencies rating to get the entire picture:

    # Currency Currency сode USD conversion rate EUR conversion rate
1 Kuwaiti Dinar KWD 3.31 USD 2.77 EUR
2 Bahraini Dinar BHD 2.66 USD 2.23 EUR
3 Omani Rial OMR 2.60 USD 2.18 EUR
4 Jordanian Dinar JOD 1.41 USD 1.18 EUR
5 British Pound Sterling GBP 1.38 USD 1.16 EUR
6 Cayman Islands Dollar KYD 1.22 USD 1.02 EUR
7 European Euro EUR 1.19 USD 1 EUR
8 Swiss Franc CHF 1.08 USD 0.91 EUR
9 US Dollar USD 1 USD 0.84 EUR
10 Canadian Dollar CAD 0.80 USD 0.67 EUR
11 Australian Dollar AUD 0.77 USD 0.65 EUR
12 Singapore Dollar SGD 0.74 USD 0.62 EUR

And now, we'll get a closer look at each currency and find out what makes them so highly valued.

    #1 – Kuwaiti Dinar ($3.31)

The most expensive currency in the world is Kuwaiti Dinar
The leading currency in the world is Kuwaiti Dinar

    Currency code – KWD

    Kuwaiti Dinar rates:
1 KWD = 3.31 USD (Kuwaiti Dinar to US Dollar)
1 KWD = 2.77 EUR (Kuwaiti Dinar to Euro)

Today, Kuwaiti Dinar is the highest-valued currency in the world, estimating at $3.31 per Dinar. Such a high value is explained by Kuwait's stable economy and significant oil exports into the global market, producing almost 95% of the country's revenue.

According to the estimates, about 9% of the global oil reserves are located on its territory. Petroleum production here is the easiest and, therefore, the cheapest among other countries.

Besides, Kuwait is a tax-free country with a very low unemployment rate.

All of this makes it rank 8th in the list of countries with the highest GDP per capita.

Kuwaiti Dinar was first introduced in 1961 after the country gained its independence from the United Kingdom and was initially equivalent to one Pound Sterling.

Since 2003 the currency was pegged to the US Dollar, but in 2007 the government decided to peg the Kuwaiti Dinar to the weighted currency basket.
