Any Legislature can demand questioning of Iraq’s Prime Minister or any of his ministers, if he collects 25 MPs signatures

BAGHDAD / Aswat al-Iraq: The Official Spokeswoman of al-Iraqiya Coalition, Maysoun al-Damaloujy, has said on Monday that any Member of Parliament (MP) reserves the right to demand the questioning of Iraq’s Prime Minister or any of his ministers if he collects 25 MPs signatures.

“Any MP has the right to demand the questioning of the Prime Minister or any of his cabinet ministers if the MP collects signatures of 25 MPs, supporting the questioning,” Damaloujy told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

She pointed out that al-Iraqiya Leader, Iyad Allawi, being an MP, can present a demand to the Parliament’s Speaker, to question Iraq’s Prime Minister, Nouri al-Maliki, in an open Parliament session, adding that a number of MPs, representing the National Coalition and al-Iraqiya Coalition, have expressed wish to sign such demand, expecting that such campaign would begin in the forthcoming few days.

Al-Iraqiya Legislature, Haider al-Mulla, had stated on Sunday that his Coalition’s Leader, Iyad Allawi, at his capacity as Member of Parliament, intended to present a request to question Prime Minister, Nouri al-Maliki, on Monday, to the Parliament’s Speaker, in an open session, regarding the violence that took place against demonstrators in central Baghdad’s al-Tahrir Square last Friday, along with the corruption suffered by state institutions and the continuous violence acts.
