Iraqi List plans urgent meeting to resolve issue of defense ministry candidatePosted: April 2, 2011 by THE CURRENCY NEWSHOUND - Just Hopin in Iraqi Dinar/Politics

Al-Iraqiya’s meeting follows an apparent concord among the political blocs on candidates already put forward by the PM to the parliament or the positions of the minister of the interior and planning.

The issue of unassigned cabinet ministries has continued for three months after the new Iraqi cabinet was sworn in incompletely in December 2010 over disputes among the political lists over the candidates put forward for three key ministries of the interior, defense and national security.

The national security and the interior portfolios ere by agreement entitled to the National Coalition list (NC) led by Maliki, while the defense ministry to be held by the Sunni-Backed al-Iraqiya list.

The Iraqiya list had submitted some 6 candidates for the position one of whom to be chosen by Maliki including Khalid al-Obeidi whose candidacy was withdrawn by the list later who was chosen by Maliki.

“The position of the al-Iraqiya list regarding the candidacy of al-Obeidi is still the same” said Intisar Allawi, media official of the Iraqiya list.

The meeting today is expected to last until Sunday where the list is expected to resolve its stand about al-Obeidi’s candidacy.
