Baghdad bomb plot foiled - financier arrested

Baghdad, Nov. 20 (AKnews) – A source in the Iraqi police said on Saturday that security forces intercepted a plan to set off a string of explosions in parks and public spaces in the Iraqi capital during the Eid al-Adha celebrations, arresting the financier behind it.

The source who asked not to be named told AKnews that security forces followed the movements of the armed group behind the plot to plant bombs in cars and houses close to heavily populated public areas, and arrested a car dealer who financed the thwarted operation and two gang members in Baghdad’s western al-Jamea district.

Investigations into the case are still underway.

Baghdad operations Command implemented a special precautionary security plan during the four-day celebration that started last Tuesday which included closing roads, putting up blast walls and deploying additional troops in the city’s parks and other recreational areas.
