The story is told of a man named John who had once been faithful to attend church regularly, but had kind of slacked away recently. It dawned on the pastor that he hadn't seen the gentleman in a while, so he decided to go for a visit to see if John was sick because it was the Flu season and the wind was cold and snowy. John greeted the pastor and welcomed him in, directing him to the chair beside the fireplace. H. The asked the Pastor what brought him out his way to visit, but the Pastor didn't say a sword....he simply grabbed the fireplace tongs, picked up a hot coal from the fire and set it aside, out away from the fire. Both men then watched the coal. While the fire roared on filling the room with warmth, the coal that had been red hot began to lose it's heat. It gradually was losing it red hot color and became cool to the touch. The Pastor picked the coal and handed it to John and for a moment neither of them said a word. Then the Pastor reached out a took the coal and placed it back into the hot fire and in just a few short moments the coal once again glowed red hot as the pile of flaming coals caused it to heat up. The Pastor then got to his feet, shook John's hand then said, "Amen". As he was leaving John said, "Thank you for coming and reminding me what's important". The Pastor looked back at John before he entered the doorway and John had big tear drops rolling down his cheeks. John said, "I'll be back in church this Sunday". With that the Pastor smiled looked up and said, "Thank you Lord, you reached him".
