- 43:18 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Banco_del_Mutuo_Soccorso Review by Fitzcarraldo SPECIAL COLLABORATOR Honorary Collaborator This concept album is my favourite of the first three BANCO albums, but it is also the oddest (mind you, all BANCO's music is a bit odd in my opinion). Pity I understand very little Italian, because I think the lyrics for such an ambitious theme (evolution) would be interesting. The long 'L'Evoluzione' (evolution) is obviously the vehicle to introduce the album's concept. It starts off as a fairly sedate song (I even hear a little PINK FLOYD in there somewhere) but then comes some synth which makes me think of erupting volcanoes, and the song heats up, not very melodically, with BANCO's characteristic repetitive note sequences, with a piccolo mib playing over the top in places. Keeping one's mind on the theme stops the track getting tedious. 'La Conquista Della Posizione Eretta' (the conquest of the upright position) is really atmospheric, with synth used to produce animal-like sounds, and some dynamic 'echoey' synth that, given the theme and track title, make me think of apes swinging through the forest treetops at great speed (honestly!, although the band probably intended nothing of the kind). I really, really like this track. 'Danza Dei Grandi Rettili' (dance of the large reptiles) is also the business. It has a very laid-back jazzy barroom feel, starting with some piano and bass, and then adding synth. Again, bearing in mind the theme, it's not hard to picture a T. Rex clomping around looking for prey. Great synth on this one. 'Cento Mani E Cento Occhi' (a hundred hands and a hundred eyes) is the reason I bought the album in the first place. It is a frenetic track with a fair amount of unmelodic keyboard with what sounds like repetitive two-finger key bashing and 'wailing' by Francesco Di Giacomo (well, that's how it sounds to me!). When I first heard this track I thought, "What on Earth is this?" but had to listen to it again, and again and finally had to buy the album. This is probably the track to play if you want to clear a room! Knowing the title, the music makes me think of a giant millipede scuttling at high speed along the jungle floor, but I'm probably way off: wish I could understand the lyrics. Then, right at the end of the song, there is what sounds like a tribal ritual chant over some foot-tapping progressive rock. A bizarre track, but strangely compelling. '750,000 Anni Fa...L'Amore?' (750,000 Years Ago...Love?) is ballad-like, Francesco Di Giacomo singing with great feeling with the piano as the principal backing instrument, interrupted for a short while by some very electronic synth. It's pleasant enough. 'Miserere Alla Storia' starts off with staccato, repeated note sequences on the organ, then changes to a classical-sounding theme with piccolo mib and acoustic guitar, then transmogrifies into a mad-sounding Francesco Di Giacomo half speaking, half singing, then back to the staccato repeated note sequences on the organ. It becomes more interesting towards the end when piano kicks in with synth and other instruments, but in places reminds me a bit of a slightly out of tune village band. 'Ed Ora Io Domando Tempo Al Tempo Ed Egli Mi Risponde...Non Ne Ho!' (and now I ask the time to Time and he replies...I haven't got it!) is yet another bizarre track. It starts with a sound like a donkey braying, which sounds to me like the very slow dragging of a violin bow or perhaps the rocking of a very creaky rocking chair. Then the clavicembalo and piccolo mib add some background as Francesco Di Giacomo sings to backing music that sounds a bit like an umpapa umpapa village band. I hope the above whets your curiosity rather than putting you off getting this album. If you're used to melodic Progressive Rock then this is a very different beast, but should grow on you. The composition and use of instruments to convey the theme are clever, and there is so much variety and oddity in the tracks - and within tracks - that it keeps you listening intently and enjoying immensely. Get it, listen to it on headphones, imagine and enjoy. If you don't like it at first, stick with it, it's worth it. I'd like to give this 4.5 stars if such a thing were possible, but will go with 4. umb's note: Saw them twice in concert.......Very very good

  4. Napoli Centrale (name indicates Naples' main train station) were formed in Naples in 1974 on the initiative of James Senese (sax, vocals) and Franco Del Prete (drums) after their experience in another band called the Showmen 2. They joined forces with American keyboardist Mark Harris and British bassist Tony Walmsley and in 1975 released an eponymous debut album blending in an original way Mediterranean roots and jazz rock. James Senese's father was an American soldier who had been working in the base of Naples and his mother was a Neapolitan girl, perhaps that's why the fusion between Afro-American music and Neapolitan folklore sounds so natural and authentic in the band's output. Franco Del Prete committed lyrics in Neapolitan dialect add a touch of colour contributing to express what's an almost a tribal rage. They perfectly fit the music composed by James Senese where you can find influences ranging from Weather Report and Miles Davis to Osanna (Italian Band) The opener "Campagna" (Countryside) begins softly with a short intro featuring shy flutes notes... Then the rhythm section starts pulsing while vocals describe in a caustic way how "beautiful" is the countryside. Lyrics depict the miserable life of the farm labourers, exploited by their greedy employers... "Countryside / How beautiful is the country... But it is more beautiful for the landlord!". The rhythm is full of energy and James Senese's draws fiery sax passages under a midday sun. This track was released also as a single and was quite successful in Italy. An absolutely unexpected result for such kind of song!
  5. 1. Il Nulla 00:00 2. La Creazione 05:00 3. L'Ammonimento 10:17 4. Sodoma E Gomorra 15:33 5. Il Giudizio 20:26 6. Il Diluvio 30:37 Nothingness Creation Admonishment / Warning Sodoma & Gomorrah The Judgment The Deluge Review by ZowieZiggy PROG REVIEWER This work has little to share with the symphonic music that was played by some legendary bands from Italy. The intriguing opening track is quite abstruse: it is very difficult to enter into and sounds more as an experimental piece of music. This album sounds very much as a heavy prog one, with Italian lyrics. La Creazione fully falls under this category; but the same type of sound is repeated during most of the songs from this debut album. There are also some psychedelic influences which lead to a satisfying album. No giant numbers are featured and the wild rocking Sodoma E Gomorra is very much in the style of Ten Years After. Demoniac guitar work, heavy and sustained bass, rolling drumming are the combination of sounds that you will discover while you would listen to this instrumental track. We are far from the melodic Italian genre to be honest; but if you accept this album for what it is AND if you are somewhat heavy-rock oriented, this album should be OK. But production is not the strongest point. The longest song available Il Giudizio is just a hard/heavy jam: structure less and noisy at times. These ten minutes are quite difficult to digest and it is not the short Il Diluvio that is going to raise the quality level here. Two stars for this heavy, heavy work.
  6. When I saw you arrive so beautiful as you are it did not seem possible to me that with so many people around you'd notice just me it felt like flying right here in my room like in a dream more inside you I've known you forever and I' ve loved you since no time Pretend you'll never leave me even though it will have to end sooner or later this long love story now it's already late but it's still early if you leave Pretend that it's just for the two of us time will go by but this long love story will not now it's already late but it's still early if you leave it's too late but it's early if you leave
  7. She has been one of our greatest female singers no doubt...Too bad she left us way too early....She had a very tormented life unfortunately.....which ended tragically You know, people are weird, first they hate each other, and the they love each other they change mind suddenly, first the truth and then lie without seriousness, as if it was nothing you know, people are crazy, maybe too unsatisfied follow the world blindly When the fashion changes they also change continuously and foolishly. You, you that are different, at least you in the universe a point, you know, that doesn't rotate around me ever a sun that shines only for me as a diamond in the middle of the heart You, you that are different, at least you in the universe you won't change, tell me that you'll be honest forever and that you'll really love me, more, more, more You know, people are lonely, they console as they can to not make my mind get lost in conjecture, in fear in vain, and then for nothing You, you that are different, at least you in the universe a point, you know, that doesn't rotate around me ever a sun that shines only for me as a diamond in the middle of the heart You, you that are different, at least you in the universe you won't change, tell me that you'll be honest forever and that you'll really love me, more, more, more https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mia_Martini
  8. Look at it, Professor, how blond that is... This starry night disappearing into the dark Look at it as it runs away just the same as you look at that woman friend of mine I know way back when you made a killing with the ladies I'm not calling you "Professor" for nothing Tell me Professor about the Silence about the blue countryside, tell me about the absinth ( hallucinogeous plant and drink used in the beginning of the 20th century) tell me about those months where you were locked up in the mountains with your black basque as if it were Spain again ( talks about the civil war between supporters of fascist dictator Franco and Republicans coming from all over the world to help spanish people to re-gain freedom.. Franco won that time sadly.. around 1935-36) Just light up a fire..... when it comes to this you're the Best also for this I call you "Professor" Explain to me, Professor about a woman who knows you just like this flame they say you haven't forgotten her she then went away but never got married anyway And from that day on you got your heart knitted up Also for this I call you "Professor" But do not talk about me The emptiness you feel exists it's not to be told We got stolen everything and what did you do? 10. The sea in winter is just a movie in black and white seen on TV. And inward, some cloud from the sky going down. Wet sand, a letter that the wind is taking away, invisible points chased by dogs, tired whirls of old seagulls. And me staying here looking for a cafe.. The sea in winter is a concept thought does not consider . It 's barely modern, it's something that no one ever wants. Hotels closed, advert posters already worn out cars trace grooves on roads where rain does not fall in the summer And I can not even talk to myself. Sea .... nobody ever comes here to drag me away. Sea .... nobody ever comes here to keep us company. Sea ... I can not stand seeing you like this because this wind stirs me too, stirs me too. the cold weather will come to pass and the beach will slowly acquire color The radio and the newspapers and meaningless music will spread '. New adventures, lit-up nightclubs full of lies. But around evening, a strange concert and a beach umbrella that stays open. I dive perplexed into already lived moments. Sea .... nobody ever comes here to drag me away. Sea .... nobody ever comes here to keep us company. Sea .... I can not stand seeing you like this because this wind stirs me too, stirs me too..... This wind stirs me too.
  11. I would like to meet you outside the gates of a factory (plant), I would like to meet you along the roads leading to India I would like to meet you but I do not know what I would do: perhaps I 'd suddenly cry of joy. I would like to find you while you sleep in a sea of grass and then take you to my house on the cliff, show you the memories of what I have been, show you the statue of what I am now. I would like to know you but I do not know what to call you, I would like to follow you but the people overwhelms you: I was waiting for you when it was raining outside, and my room was filled with silence for you. I would like to meet just when I'm about to fall, among thousand faces just recognize you, sing your song, sing it to me: maybe one day I'll sing for you. I would like to know you but I do not know what to call you, I would like to follow you but the people overwhelms you: I was waiting for you when it was raining outside, and my room was filled with silence for you. I would like to meet you outside the gates of a factory, I would like to meet you along the roads leading to India I would like to meet you but I do not know what I would do: perhaps I'd suddenly cry of joy

A volte un istante di quiete -- 00:00 Forse le lucciole non si amano più -- 06:28 Profumo di colla bianca -- 16:07 Cercando un nuovo confine -- 24:22 Sogno di Estunno -- 31:02 Non chiudere a chiave le stelle -- 35:43 Vendesi saggezza -- 39:15 Review by Steve Hegede PROG REVIEWER This is my favorite Italian progressive rock album. 1977's "Forse Le Lucciole Non Si Amano Piu" is a beautiful masterpiece that few other albums can match. LOCANDA DELLE FATE were a 7-piece band consisting of two keyboardists, two guitarists, a bassist, a drummer, and a singer. Unfortunately, they began their careers as a band just as prog was starting to die in Italy. After the album was released, the band found little to no demand for live performances and little interest for their music. So after a short tour, and a couple of failed singles, they quit. The music here is colorful in a symphonic way, and emphasizes intensely melodic interaction from the various instruments. What really impresses me about this recording is the attention that went into detail. I'm still discovering new melodies, countermelodies, and harmonies every time the CD gets played. Themes are stated, developed, go through variations, and resolved in such a majestic manner that it's tough to compare LDF to other bands. Leonardo Sasso, the singer, reminds me a bit of Ian ANDERSON. His voice is warm, and at times close to operatic. Overall, music doesn't get much better than this!

Take a woman, tell her you love her Write her love songs, send her roses and poems Give her heart shapes too Make her feel important Give her the best of the best you've got Try to be a tender lover Be always near her Resolve her troubles And be sure she will leave you Who is too much loved will not give back love And be sure she will leave you Who love less is always the strongest Take a woman, treat her bad Make her wait you for hours Don't show up and when you call her Act as you do her a favor Make her feel less important Balance good love and cruelty Try to be a tender lover But out of the bed show no pity And then you'll see she will love you Who less loves more love gets in return And then you'll see she will love you Who love less is the strongest one No my dear friend I do not agree, you speak a hurt man A good girl, like the bread..and she is gone And you didn't resist there are no laws in love Just be who you are Leave the door of your heart open And you'll see a woman is looking for you What's a man without love? You do agree with me on this What's a man without love? This is the only law that exists..

Plus more tracks Founded in Rome, Italy in 1970 - Disbanded in 1977 - Reformed in 1993 Italian seventies progressive rock band playing dynamic prog with many rhythm changes. Their first album called "La Bibbia" is a concept work based on the early parts of the Bible. They used a classical orchestra on "Contaminazione", a classical rock album based on the life and works of Bach. Very kayboards oriented in the vein of ELP, heavy guitars and a tight rhythm section, much variation: this is great stuff! (Claude) Review by lor68 PROG REVIEWER Well actually this "contamination" is a bit dated nowadays, but in the course of the seventies this operation was so much acclaimed as one of the best re-arrangements from an opera by J.S. Bach. Honestly in this case the work should be inspired by such Bach's "Well Tempered Clavier", but the similarities are not so evident; rather I find a personal imprinting by an heavy rock band which made his first attempt to become more "progressive", thanks to this interesting idea. The concept works quite well instrumentally, even though it is not much inspiring from the point of view of the connection between a song and another. For the considerations above the score should be inferior, but the impact was so strong that the album deserves for sure a major attention.
