Washington sends B-52 bomber to the Middle East "on a long mission" To "deter aggression, and reassure the partners and allies of the United States," according to the US Army Central Command 22.11.2020 Washington Washington / Anatolia The US military announced, on Saturday, that it will send a B-52 (Stratofortress) plane on November 21, from an air base in North Dakota, to the Middle East. The Stratofortress aircraft are long-range, hypersonic, jet-powered strategic US bombers. In a statement on Saturday, the US Army Central Command described the plane’s mission as "long," noting that its goal is "to deter aggression and reassure US partners and allies," without talking about its place of stability in the Middle East. The said aircraft is capable of carrying up to 70,000 pounds of weapons, and has a typical combat range of more than 8,800 miles without the need for aerial refueling. The leadership clarified that "the United States does not seek to cause any conflict, but it is still committed to responding to any emergency around the world." It stressed its commitment to preserving and protecting freedom of navigation and trade throughout the region. The leadership added that "the ongoing mission demonstrates the ability of the US military to deploy combat air power anywhere in the world within a short time and integrate into Central Command operations to help maintain regional stability and security." These developments come in light of increasing tension between Washington on the one hand, and Tehran and its allies, especially in Iraq, on the other hand, in addition to unconfirmed news of a possible US attack on Iran, before the end of President Donald Trump's term.
