Iraq wins again the membership of the Intergovernmental Council to promote the return of cultural property to its countries of origin

Iraq once again gained the confidence of the international community in recognition of its leading position and civilized role.
A statement by the Ministry of Culture explained, "This came during the work of the UNESCO General Conference in its forty-first session held in Paris. After being re-elected, Iraq won the membership of the Intergovernmental Council to promote the return of cultural property to its country of origin, or its return in case of illegal appropriation (ICPRCP) for the period from (2021-2025)".
He added, "With this, Iraq will have eased the way to return cultural property, or return it as a result of looting or illegal trafficking, and it will be the first to conclude agreements with the countries concerned."
It is noteworthy that Iraq is participating in the UNESCO conference with a high-level delegation headed by the Minister of Culture, Tourism and Antiquities, Hassan Nazim, and the delegation included Dr. Laith Majid Hussein, head of the Antiquities and Heritage Authority, Falah Hassan Shaker, Director General of the Public Cultural Relations Department, Dr. Yassin Al-Ithawi, Deputy Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, and Kazem. Al-Rikabi, Chargé d'Affairs at the UNESCO Representative Office.
