US State Department spokeswoman Heather Noiret confirmed on Thursday that Foreign Minister Rex Tilson would attend a conference on Iraq's reconstruction in Kuwait.
"Tillerson will visit the Middle East region, including Kuwait, Jordan, Turkey, Lebanon and Egypt, from February 11 to 16, where he will lead the US delegation to the ministerial meeting of the International Coalition for a landslide defeat and a return conference," Nuerte said in a press release on February 8, 2018. "This is the third time that Tillerson has met with his counterparts to hold a meeting of the International Coalition and the first since a defeat in Raqqa and Iraq's announcement of the restoration of its territory," it said.
"Tillerson will participate in the Iraq Reconstruction Conference, which highlights the opportunities of the private sector to rebuild infrastructure or modernize key sectors of the economy to improve the lives of the Iraqi people," she said.
"This will be an opportunity to support system" rel="">support the Iraqi people and help inspire confidence that Iraq is now open to action," she said.
The Iraq reconstruction conference is scheduled to take place from February 12 to 14, with the participation of a number of donor countries and international and regional organizations, headed by five parties - the European Union, Iraq, Kuwait, the United Nations and the World Bank. Kuwait will also host the activities of the ministerial meeting of the International Alliance Against Dahesh, which includes 74 countries and international organizations.
