"CORRUPTION NO LESS HARMFUL THAN TERRORISM," SAYS IRAQI PM ABADI 24 mins ago Views 81 BAGHDAD – Iraqi Prime Minister, Haidar al-Abadi announced on Sunday (April 2) that the battle to drive Islamic State (ISIS) out of its last stronghold in the country has not prevented the government from implementing reforms "Corruption is no less harmful than terrorism," Prime Minister Haidar al-Abadi said at the Iraq Energy Forum which is sponsored by NRT. In his speech at the Iraq Energy Forum 2017, Abadi said that the slump in oil prices over the past few years “revealed the fragility of the Iraqi economy.” Abadi said that "Iraq today plays a leading role in OPEC and is committed to investment plans and stimulating the market," noting that hundreds of billions have been lost because of poor planning. "Iraq is densely populated because of the increase in population growth, and Iraq requires us to live in regional reconciliation, which we must seek" he continued. The continuing regional conflict has prevented Iraq from making use of several energy sources and resulted in a financial crisis, Abadi said. Iraq's revenues have fallen to 30 percent compared to 2013, he added, saying that “we managed to keep success to invest and open up more investment potential.” The Iraq Energy Forum kicked off on Sunday (April 2) for the third time under the patronage of the Iraqi Government and with sponsorship of NRT HD and NRT Arabic. Iraq Energy Institute was founded in 2008, as an independent institution, which aims to implement reform in the energy policy in Iraq and support reform attempts supporting legislative reform and scientific research in oil, gas, electricity and renewable energy. The institute has been appointed as an advising side for the Iraqi Parliament’s Committee of Oil and Energy with its headquarters in London that has Iraqi experts in all energy sectors. (NRT)
