  1. Did you hear that today a group of Insurgents was able to pass the checkpoints ( in uniforms and with fake documents) and got practically in front of Karzai's palace in Kabul? One blew up himself and then there was a reaction by the Afghan Forces and all insurgents were killed.

Yes I did, I have been in the green zone a lot. that is just a short walk to Camp edgers, ISAF and the US embassy, They are all in the Green Zone. Just goes to show you how good the ANA are at screening.

  2. I WOULD NOT PUT IT IN THERE

    Sandfly,

Why not. If it was in a Dinar account then when it RV's we wouldn't have to pay the exchange rate correct? Would we not get the best rate and not have to cover to dollars untill we wanted and we could get the interest off of the Dinar account?

Also where are y ou at now? my company moved me to Kuwait from Kandahar.

  3. Does anyone have any details of what exactly happened?  My curiosity takes over at this point for such a young person to pass away....it baffles the mind....

    I agree so sad. :(

Millionaire in training,  it seems that it is true, that our SWFG is with our Lord now.  Carrillo spoke to his sister and it has been confirmed.

This wonderful person that God gave to us will be missed by all of us.  SWFG in turned gave us his heart of knowledge, kindness, and compassion .  Now is the time we hold his family in prayer.  They are the ones in need of comfort.

I can not help in not shedding a tear for this young angel.  Thank you Jesus for bringing SWFG (DAN) into our lives.  Thank you for letting us know a beautiful person of God.

I couldn't have said it better,

  4. I Don't know what this means or if it has been posted before, but I foud this while reading the GULF NEWS here in Kuwait City Iraq to finish Kuwait war reparations in 2015

Kuwait has received about $30 billion in war reparations

Baghdad: Iraq estimates that it will complete reparations payments to neighbouring Kuwait in 2015 for Saddam Hussain’s 1990 invasion, Foreign Minister Hoshyar Zebari said Thursday.

Kuwait has received about $30 billion in war reparations, out of about $41 billion, a figure decided by a United Nations body after Iraqi troops were driven out of Kuwait in 1991 following a seven-month occupation.

Baghdad pays 5% of its oil and gas revenue into a special UN fund that pays the compensation.

“If we continue at this pace, I think that in 2015, after paying all the war compensation, Iraq will be completely removed from Chapter 7,” Zebari said at a news conference in Baghdad.

He was referring to a section of the UN charter which allows for sanctions ranging from economic measures to an arms embargo.

Iraq and Kuwait have in recent months been taking steps to resolve long-standing disagreements, including asking the UN to start repairing border markers and working to reach a settlement on a dispute between the two countries’ state-run airlines.

  5. I'm sure all that have served in these wars, know the routine of what goes on during a drawdown.  I've been living it for 6 yrs with my hubby.  Great tips. I encourage family to keep sending the extras, before the mail is discontinue.  I'm sure and know they will get bore with the MRE's after awhile. Any extras they will appreciate.

    Thanks TP ;)

You are right Pattyangle, my wife has been sending me care packages ever when Pakistan closed the boarder crossings and the PX one Sharana had nothing but bare shelves.

  7. Thanks RIco for the update.  Finally made contact with him and all is well.  He said, they had some bad weather (hail storm) a couple days back.  He got hit by some of the hail.  Ouch for him.

I did read about the spring offensive beginning. You guys stay as safe as you can. Duck, run, crawl and blend in with the sand.  LOL!!!!

I try to stay up to par with what is going on over there.  I don't know, I just feel better when I do, keeps the worrying down a bit.  But I do get concern when days go by with no word.  Our communication has been the pits.  No skype, trouble getting connection and  texting is slow.

I just ask God to keep him safe and accept what His plans are for us.  Let me tell you, it is heavy.  I'm sure you can vouch for this, along with your wife.

Praying for all of you, and passing some prayers to your wife.  I know what her heart feels.

I am glad that you got a hold of him and that he is OK. My wife and I are lucky, i have access to satellite internet and we are able to skype every day.

Until I took the position that I am in at this time I traveled all over the country in all kinds of aircraft at least twice a week going to Fob's and my wife's biggest worry was that I would go down in a chopper of cargo plane as that is the mod of travel for most movement in country.

Thank you for your prayers and I hope that your husband stay's safe.

    God Bless

This finally made the news--albeit NPR. Probably not going to see this on mainstream and televised.

And this is *only* because it was captured on video and posted to YouTube [NPR has a caveat that questions the validity of the video]

    http://www.npr.org/blogs/thetwo-way/2013/04/30/180107632/video-may-show-747-jets-last-seconds-before-bagram-crash?utm_source=NPR&utm_medium=facebook&utm_campaign=20130501

Note: the video itself is disturbing to watch

They can question the validity of it all they want. I know three people that witnessed the accident and have also seen the video and they all have told me that it is not fake and it shows the accident as it happened.

You are correct. the only reason that it is in the news now is because of the video of the crash and we all know news rooms love a good disaster video to boost their ratings.

  8. We had some guy's fly down from Bagram today and they saw the crash and a had picture of the plane coming down.

They told me that the plane had just lifted off and was on the climb out and the nose of the plane went up at a steep angle then it rolled over to the right and went down. They showed me a picture of it rolling over. They also had a picture of the crash site as they flew out of Bagram over the site. All that you could see was the tail.

Why is it that a *** basketball player makes the new but a crash of a 747 in Afghanistan doesn't.

I pray for the families that lost loved ones and pray that the good lord will look over them and provide them comfort in this time of sorrow.

  9. Pattyangel, this is the latest news that I have been able to find. the good news is I haven't heard of anyone on the ground being hurt. I hope that you husband is OK and not in harms way.

I just got done talking to my wife and she hasn't seen or heard of it on the news. Also from what I am hearing there was not any enemy action that brought it down. Although the spring offensive has started. We had three rocket attacks here last night.

7 dead in civilian cargo aircraft crash at Afghanistan's Bagram Air Field

    Published April 29, 2013

    Associated Press

KABUL, Afghanistan –  The U.S.-led military coalition says seven people died when a civilian cargo aircraft crashed at Bagram Air Field, north of the Afghan capital.

In a statement, the coalition confirmed that all seven civilian crew members were killed in Monday's crash.

The Taliban quickly claimed responsibility for the crash. But the coalition denied that, saying in a statement to The Associated Press that the militant group's statement was false.

The coalition said there was no militant activity during the time of the crash.

The coalition said the cause of the accident is being investigated.

Crash: National Air Cargo B744 at Bagram on Apr 29th 2013, lost height shortly after takeoff

By Simon Hradecky, created Monday, Apr 29th 2013 14:02Z, last updated Monday, Apr 29th 2013 16:57ZA National Air Cargo Boeing 747-400 freighter on behalf of US Mobility Command, registration N949CA performing cargo flight N8-102 from Bagram (Afghanistan) to Dubai Al Maktoum (United Arab Emirates) with 8 crew, has crashed shortly after takeoff from Bagram Air Base's runway 03 at 15:30L (11:00Z) and erupted into flames near the end of the runway with the perimeter of the Air Base. All 8 crew are reported perished in the crash.

Afghan Authorities immediately denied claims that the crash of a large civilian cargo aircraft was the result of enemy activities. A large fire erupted after the aircraft impacted ground, it appears all crew have been killed.

Coalition Forces reported a civilian large cargo planed crashed shortly after takeoff, at the time of the accident there was no enemy activity around the aerodrome. Rescue and Recovery efforts are under way, the Air Base is currently locked down and the aerodrome is closed.

National Air Cargo confirmed their aircraft N949CA with 8 crew crashed at Bagram.

Several observers on the ground reported the National Air Cargo Boeing 747-400 had just lifted off and was climbing through approximately 1200 feet when it's nose sharply rose, the aircraft appeared to have stalled and came down erupting in a blaze.

According to a listener on frequency the crew reported the aircraft stalled due to a possible load shift.

National Air Cargo operates three Boeing 747-400s with the registrations N952CA, N919CA and N949CA. N949CA operated into Afghanistan yesterday (Apr 28th).

  12. Food for thought...........Can you imagine if you turn ordinary citizens into millionaires by the millions? Not to say they can't but it seems logical they are still gonna need people to sweep up the market after the next suicide attack. If you had millions of dollars would you go down there and sweep up? Not me either. Plus I bet we wouldn't be millionaires for long because of inflation and if a coke was 20.00 and a loaf of bread was 30.00........I guess we'll be alright. Just thinking out loud.

  13. Solution for all tax problems:  If you earn an income and pay SS...

    1. FICA on ALL income without any deductions or returns on deductions .... a straight 15%.  That includes ALL incomes from $10,000 to $100 trillion.  No one is exempt.  This includes all presidents and congress and senate.

    2. SS on everyone of those in 1. will pay 3% into SS funds.

    3. No funds from the SS can be used for any purpose other than the intended use; being the funding of senior citizens health insurance and cash benefits directly to the senior recieptient.  (No special interest funding, no borrowing by unions, no funding any alien except for those who become citizens and pay into the SS system.)

This would take care of the national debt, fund SS, and create an abundant amount for infra-structure improvements and security of the nation.

You want to hear the pig squeal?  This will do it.

This produces an equality across the board.

I am all for a true flat tax.

One would think that someone working more than eight hours a day would be compensated fairly 127 years after the Haymarket affair, and one would think that packing workers into slums, dormitories, or basements would have been settled 106 years after Upton Sinclair released The Jungle, but for many living in this country these experiences are still a reality.

What I don't like is having someone that hates the US telling every one how bad our country is. If it is so bad the DON"T COME HERE!

When I was 12 I was working in the strawberry fields in Oregon during the summer getting up a 0400 to get the bus to the fields by 0530 so that I could make 12 cents a pound picking berry's ( and I can say that it is harder doing that than flipping a burgur). Then I was working it a car wash at 14 making 85 cents an hour.

I didn't think I was being abused. But then I have earned everything that I have and it hasn't been given to me by the government. Although because I make a good wage now the government has no problem taking my money and giving it to whiners that don't have the ambition that I had at 12 years old.
