  1. Bickering Over Oil and Gas Law Hurts Foreign Investment

22/11/2011 02:03:00 By HAWAR ABDULRAZAQ ALI ERBIL,

Iraqi Kurdistan -- Energy experts say that foreign investors are concerned about the bickering over Iraq’s oil and gas law and may be reluctant to invest in the country’s vast natural resources until legislation is passed.

For years, Baghdad and the Kurdistan Region have disagreed on the details of Iraq’s oil and gas law including whether regions can strike deals for natural gas projects.

The Kurdistan Region has its own investment law and the central government still works under laws from Saddam Hussein’s era.

A new row between Baghdad and Erbil started last week following reports that the Kurdish authorities had signed a contract with the American oil giant ExxonMobil, which already has an existing contract with Baghdad.

Jonathan Brown, Kurdistan’s project manager for the Canadian oil company Talisman Energy, which currently works in three different oil fields in Kurdistan, said the lack of clarity regarding Iraq’s oil and gas laws will hinder foreign investment in the region and Iraq.

“It’s a big problem; any company that wants come to Kurdistan or Iraq, the first thing they talk about is the law issue,” he said.

Todd F. Kozel, chairman and CEO of the British oil firm Gulf Keystone Petroleum Co., maintained that oil-related conflicts between Baghdad and Erbil will hurt the industry’s development but remains hopeful that the issues will be resolved.

“Our company has invested millions of dollars in its projects in the Kurdistan region and I believe that KRG and central government will solve the issue, or we would not have invested a lot of money in the region,” he said.

There were reports late last month that Iraqi Prime Minster Nuri al-Maliki and Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Prime Minster Barham Salih agreed to amend Iraq’s 2007 oil and gas law by December 31.

That law was approved by most of Iraq’s political factions.

In August, Kurdish officials were upset when Iraq’s cabinet hastily passed a new draft of Iraq’s oil and gas law without consulting the Kurds. A previous draft of the law had sat in Parliament since 2007.

Kurdish leaders accused Iraq’s prime minister of becoming authoritarian and creating an “economic dictatorship.”

Natt Arian, a Kurdish investor based in Australia, believes that foreign investors have the right to be concerned about Iraq’s oil and gas law because it needs to protect their business. Arian also said the KRG should do more to attract foreign investment.

“Kurdistan should do more to expose the region to foreigners and give them more information about the situation,” he said. “For example, Australians haven’t got a lot of information about Kurdistan.”

2)My goal is to pay off all of my bills (especially the house)

    3)Tithe to my church

4)put money aside for my boys (college, money to help them start out on the right foot....etc)

5)take a long needed vacation (to anywhere! )

6)I have a list of people and charities that I would like to help over time.

I want to stay VIP so that I do NOT end up with the Lottery mindset. Win big and a couple years later, bankrupt and worse than when you started. Do wish I were in a better position the last few years to purchase more but I think I will do just fine with what I have :) Soooooo, Go Rv and soon would be great!

  3. Been watching this site for a year. $4.42 is the closest estimate I have seen yet. There are two major assets.

First there are about 30 million people. If you "collateralize" (like the FRS does) those 30.4 million people, excluding those that are not part of the work force (too old or too young, or disabled, etc.), --- then if you extrapolate the birth/death rate (and derive that into the future earnings of the work-force), then if you discount that to present value (like the actuaries do) -- viola !! You come up with $4.41.

Secondly, the officially confirmed oil reserves are about 143 billion barrels (http://www.iraqenergyexpo.com/2012/iraqoilreserves.html) -- about $14 Trillion at today's price of oil. Then if you interpolate production costs, future price increases, risk-factors of further warfare or failure of the Euro and/or the dollar -- then if you discount that to present value (like the actuaries do) -- viola !! You come up with $4.43.

Conclusion: $4.42 is the right number, as it is midway between $4.41 and $4.43. Thus endeth this lesson about derivitives and actuarial science.

I really like your conclusion :) Not so sure I understood how you got there, but I will take it!! LOL. I was really was hoping to wake up to some great news..... but there is always tomorrow! Ok, we will say it again.... Come On RV!!!!! God Bless :)

  4. Freedom of speech?: Again, of course. Just have some decorum and respect for others that have a more elevated conversation in progress.

Difference of opinion: Fair, that is what life is about. But don't belittle someone because they have one, and don't belittle someone if they don't spell perfectly. English could be their second language, iPhone, or maybe they have a handicap. You don't know. Make no mistake, I do not like improper grammar or spelling because of the validity it presents, but there might be a good case for it in some instances.

We are not here to run a popularity contest. We are here for information. I hope everybody has a good time, but how about some real contrbution towards our goal every now and then.

There is a time and a place for everything. You just have to be smart enough, or care enough, to know when that is.

    Very good post ....

  5. Assailant suffers injuries from 'fall'

    May 20, 2011

AUGUSTA, GA - Orville Smith, a store manager for Best Buy in Augusta, Ga. told police he observed a customer, later identified as Tyrone Jackson of Augusta, on surveillance cameras putting a laptop computer under his jacket. When confronted the man became irate, knocked down an employee, drew a knife and ran for the door.

Outside on the sidewalk were four Marines collecting toys for the Toys for Tots program. Smith said the Marines stopped the man, but he stabbed one of them, Cpt. Phillip Duggan, in the back; the injury did not appear to be severe.

After police and an ambulance arrived at the scene, Cpt. Duggan was taken for treatment.

"The subject was also transported to the local hospital with two broken arms, a broken ankle, a broken leg, several missing teeth, possible broken ribs, multiple contusions, assorted lacerations, a broken nose and a broken jaw ..... injuries he sustained when he slipped and fell off the curb after stabbing the Marine," according to a police report.

  7. From your email the statement "But I am hearing a lot of persuasive talk from some very smart people

that makes me think I could be very wrong, and we'll see that very

soon." Has my head spinning :)

There are so many saying "this week", which has been the popular statement for years I know, but when YOU say very soon what are your feelings time wise? Are you still leaning towards Thanksgiving or maybe New years or just a feeling that it is closer than it ever has been? Thank you for your information and updates. :)

  8. There have been many times I have tried to imagine what changes will come in my life over the next few days, months, years.... Wondered about the possibilities for the amount of cash in. I get so excited (cant help it LOL) when some have stated high numbers and a little let down ( I know sounds a little silly) when I hear low numbers like Adams 10 cents. I gotta tell you, this new email from Adam got me all excited again! I know that it is not what he said but I would really like the 1 to 1 or so!

Oh, and I am VIP but I didn't get the last email (about signing up) so thanks for posting it!

Lets all hope for RV Soon....!!!!
