I'm curious to know everyone's thoughts with regard to the Native American population in my country. I have found that they are fine people that deserve respect and more support from the U.S. Government. Let's not sweep them under the carpet.

Peace all.

My thought is that the Native Americans in my country are living oppressive lives and the US needs to step up to plate to help them. Let's start with education first and move forward.

I'm an advocate of the Native American Tribes and their spirituality.

As one whose Native American heritage was hidden until the death of my father...there is MUCH to be done....to change the decades of oppression and neglect and broken promises.... casinos and cigarette sales are not the solution education is definitely a must.....also hidden truth concerning history, faith and origins MUST come out.....I could write a book about what I have learned (and may do so post RV)...thanks for the post. I am moving it to off topics where it belongs....

That would be a nice gesture but the fact is, this nation is never going to make reparations to us. We've had genocide, land stolen and put on the worst land available.

I am 1/4 Cherokee and the other 3/4 of me is ashamed of what we did to the Native Americans. No one here in the US has had it as bad as they did...and do still.

Osiyo Tsalagi !! So very true my brother....and because of the genocide....many HID their true heritage...as in my case....

If you want to know.

Read the History Yourself, do some research.

Don't ask for a Readers Digest Version.

They are a Great People.

If you can find James Adair's seminal work History of the North American Indian or the Classics Bury My Heart AT Wounded Knee ...and Ghost Dance Religion ....that's a good start.... then go visit Wounded Knee or the "res" on Long Island and see how First Nations REALLY live....

Lot of mis-information here about the native americans. They are much better off than most of us, and own nearly every gambling casino around, that takes in mega billions yearly. Also the Native American indians did not have a Covenant Agreement on North America with the Creator, so they don't have any legitimate claim to the land. When you learn biblical history, you will know who it is that is entitled to North America, and who it is that holds the covenant with the Almighty creator.

I am a Native American. A Houma's Indian. Please read the following and help us by signing this petition. The Houma's Indians have been recognized by the State of Louisiana for years but still have not yet been recognized by the U S Government.

Thanks so much for your concern about Native Americans.

------------------------------

Federally recognize the United Houma Nation.

The United Houma Nation has sought federal recognition for decades. The tribe has been recognized by state and foreign governments as an Indian tribe. In fact, Houma children were forced to attend a segregated Indian school until the Civil Rights Act of 1964.

Located along Louisiana's Gulf Coast, the Houma Indian culture and community depend on the wetlands. The BP spill has devastated the Houma. However, BP denied the Houma's claim because they are not federally recognized.

The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) recommends the United Houma Nation be recognized to preserve the Houma’s culture. An NAACP report stated the oil industry lobby is blocking their request because they want access to lands that would be protected under the federal designation.

HeyHow Are Ya! Let me say I like the indians more than most. I have no idea wether I have Indian Blood from way back nor do I care. For those of you talking about genocide in the USA you are wrong,we still have plenty of Indians. Argentina is the only country that practised genocide on their native population. This is fact. As for owing them anything I disagree,no matter how unfair it might be that is evolution .The strong move in and take over happens in all aspects of life. I also feel that giving anything based on guilt for past behaviour weakens the recipiant ( look at the blacks and welfare ) and cheapens the giver. Now were the Indians mistreated and fu**ed over ? Most defintaly . Lets smoke a pipe and get over it. LOL. Now before the bashing starts I am Scots Irish so I could use american history to plead that we were treated worse than Indians and Blacks. Lol,its history it wasn't done to me!

On the West Coast, proceeds from Indian Casinos are used for supplemental income, college grants, medical care, housing, and all other basic needs for Native Americans. This does not come from the government. It is given voluntarily by people who like to play in these establishments, and who have a great need to part with their money quickly.

For those of you talking about genocide in the USA you are wrong,we still have plenty of Indians.

Genocide is not determined by how many remain, but by how many were slaughtered........ 6+ million in Germany = genocide but we have many Jewish families still with us....millions estimated died or killed in the so-called middle passage...but how many Americans share African heritage.....come to Wappingers Falls and TRY to find even ONE Wappani....can't do it the DUTCH wiped them out in a war started over a PEACH.....that my friend is a fact....

as for those who tout the casinos and their income again I say GO TO A REAL RESERVATION but be prepared to be shocked by what you find....

All you people that gives me the negatives, will not change the truth, so go ahead and act childish, but truth is truth. Go read and study the Creator's word, then you might learn something besides feeling sorry for yourselves.

For the record my friend the Wappani were a Christian tribe converted during the Moravian Revival....the Dutch who slaughtered them after first swindling them out of their "land" , "claimed" to be Christian .....claiming the rights of God's people is a scam that has caused many people to doubt even the existence of a Creator....not to mention slavery and slaughter...no negatives here JUST truth....the WHOLE truth...history written by a conqueror or an oppressor is suspect at best....

Please, write your book. I will support you.

Wear your origin proudly Eagle.

Thank you.....should the Lord tarry I shall indeed....
