Eid al Fitr..Another holiday!

So now it seems that things will be decided after Eid.. and I wanted to know when that would be over. They have a lot of holidays, don't they?

Eid holidays for govt and private sectors

22 August 2011, 6:00 AM Ministries and federal institutions across the UAE will remain closed for seven days for Eid Al Fitr holidays starting from August 28 (Sunday) to September 3 (Saturday). They will resume work on September 4(Sunday).

As August 26 and 27 fall on Friday and Saturday government sector employees will enjoy nine days of holidays.

The announcement regarding the Eid holidays for government sector was made on Sunday by Minister of Education Humaid Mohammed Al Qattami in his capacity as Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Federal Authority for Government Human Resources.

Private sector employees will be entitled to two-day Eid holiday.

According to a circular issued by Labour Minister Saqr bin Ghobash Saeed Ghobash, all business establishments in the private sector will observe the first and second days of Shawwal as Eid Al Fitr holidays. Workers will be entitled to two days of fully paid leave on the festive occasion.

Meanwhile, the Islamic Crescent Observation Project has said that Eid Al Fitr this year will likely be on August 31 (Wednesday) in most Muslim countries, considering that sighting of the moon is a condition for the beginning of the month of Shawwal.

In most of the Muslim countries, including the UAE, Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia and Iraq, where the holy month of Ramadan began on August 1 the sighting of Shawwal moon would be impossible on August 29 due to moonset before or with sunset. As for the rest of the Arab and Muslim world, the moon will be out in those areas after sunset, but the duration would be too short that it could not be seen by the eye or by using telescopes.

Eid al-Fitr (also known as Id al-Fitr or Eid ul-Fitr) on the first day of Shawwal in the Islamic calendar. It marks the end of the month-long fast of Ramadan and the start of three-day feast. Aug 31st.
