TexasGranny
Did Iraq have coins during Saddam's rule? Could these be from then. Also, I read somewhere that when the coins were first minted, they were circulated for a while before discovering that they were not useful to the citizens because of the low value. Could these be from that time. It says they were minted in 2003. How does an eBay seller get their hands on uncirculated coins that are not even in use by the country of origin? Sounds like black market to me

Tom 777
The coins that you are seeing are dabloons you know the kind that they throw around during Mardi Gras. They are worth nothing except to a drunk New Orleans coon###.
cajunrescuemedic
What I understand about the coins is that they're going to be like Kuwait. Called "fils". If I'm not mistaken, 1,000 fils equals 1 dinar.

Sounds like black market to me I have a few sets of Saddam era coins. They are hexagonal, and a set is 8 coins - that is if my memory serves me correctly. I will get them from the safe later and try to confirm..

Hamels
These coins were released during 2003-04......they were worthless, and actually the metals were more in value than the dinar...They were pulled off the streets years ago, and are no longer circulated
Bad Penny
These coins were released during 2003-04......they were worthless, and actually the metals were more in value than the dinar...They were pulled off the streets years ago, and are no longer circulated Thats what I recall. Also, there was some big heist of a truck load, or something to that effect, that prompted them to be taken out of circulation altogether. However, there must have been some kind of plan back then for them to produce a 25 dinar coin in the first place. It wouldn't be worth the effort to bend over and pick one off the ground. The Iraqis would throw them away rather then carry.

War Eagle
Ditto The 25,50,and 100 coins were put in circulation with the new dinars, Shortly thereafter a large bunch of the 50's were stolen from the CBI,so the goverment declared the 50' to be "null and void". The other coins were never really accepted by he Iraqi people,so they were pulled from circulation, and later a bunch were melted down. I have some of the 100's,bought on ebay.
