Democrats had had control of the spending since '06 when they took control of the House. And I'm sure you all are aware the budget starts in the House. They were the ones that spent like crazy. And it is our huge deficit that caused the downgrade. That and the fact that the idiot moderates and leftists didn't cut enough in the last debt limit increase. Moody's said we needed to cut 4 trillion to save our AAA rating. Those idiots in congress didn't come anywhere close to that. And it's supposed to be the Tea Party's fault??? They were the ones that want to cut spending. There was a plan to cut 4 trillion but the Dem's and Obama refused to agree to it. So, how is it the Tea Party's fault??? Someone please elaborate.

I am just calling it like I see it. This 100% would not have happened if the tea party backed representatives had not been elected. Their intentions may have been good but the result is what it is.

Ummmm....Im going to go out on a liimb.....I read this article and what I understand in part....we still have no fiscal policy concerning our debt. We have for the last two times this came up for a remedy...... all we've done is "kick the can down the road".....how can any one believe that the USA is going to pay its bills when the USA will not address is responsibilities. That was in 1971...before computers, before e-mail, before cell phones, etc. Of the 27 amendments to the Constitution, seven (7) took 1 year or less to become the law of the land...all because of public pressure.I'm asking each addressee to forward this email to a minimum of twenty people on their address list; in turn ask each of those to do likewise. In three days, most people in The United States of America will have the message. This is one idea that really should be passed around.

Congressional Reform Act of 2011No Tenure / No Pension. A Congressman collects a salary while in office and receives no pay when they are out of office.Congress (past, present & future) participates in Social Security. All funds in the Congressional retirement fund move to the Social Security system immediately. All future funds flow into the Social Security system, and Congress participates with the American people. It may not be used for any other purpose.Congress can purchase their own retirement plan, just as all Americans do.Congress will no longer vote themselves a pay raise. Congressional pay will rise by the lower of CPI or 3%. Congress loses their current health care system and participates in the same health care system as the American people. The Tea Party reps were the majority ones who refused to allow an increase in the debt ceiling! By allowing the debt ceiling to increase, with little to no substantial cuts, the US has proven it is not taking the horrific $15 trillion deficit seriously. The world knows it, and it is now reflected in the lowered credit rating.

Can you please elaborate why you feel the way you do? You can't be serious.... !

it was pelosi reid and obama that passed the extension of bush tax cuts ..... the 14 trillion dollars in debt was here before the tea party representatives took office ...

all they asked for was cuts in deficit spending......it was the left wing that wanted more deficit spending . ... when the rest of the tea party representatives take over congress and the white house .. maybe we can get things in order ... the democrats are those who would support raising the legal limit for drinking to get drunk driving under control .. face it the democrat party is on its way out

remember obama signed these things into law .. its his economy thats failing

Some of the things that we as citizens will likely see as a direct result of this fiasco is a serious rise in the cost of everything.

The cost of borrowing money will go up... therefore the cost to farmers who grow our food will go up... they borrow up front and then pay back once the crops are sold.

The cost of imports will go up. What does the US import??? EVERYTHING! Oil, electronics, construction material, clothing, commodities (grain, beans, meat, fertilizer, etc etc).

Let alone the cost to us passed on by the banking system via credit cards, mortgages, college loans, general loans, etc

The value of the USD is also supported by those who buy our treasuries, bonds and other debt. There is now less incentive for them to do so.

The most immediate effect this will have on We The People is a serious increase in the cost of everything. From food, to fuel, to clothing, to construction....

This is a sad day for the American Empire. It will be very interesting to see how things develop between now and year end....

a double aa+ credit rating is not a bad rating ... its a simple down grade .. america isnt over by far
