This was the the Oil for Food program money that had been seized under Saddam. The Finance Minister of Iraq said this would be used in reserve funds to increase the value of the Dinar in the reinstatement of value this week. This is very positive. Some people are reporting that Ali has reported that he has been put on 48 hour notice by the CBI but I have not been able to confirm this. The UN released Iraq completely out of Chapter 7 today at 3:00PM ET. So it should happen by Wednesday

So, assuming this goes down as suggested, how do we go about exchanging our Dinar for smaller denominations? Ali can't be the only game in town. There are people, governments, institutions, all over the world that are invested in Dinar. We have to be able to go into a financial institution and physically exchange the larger denominations for smaller denominations, just like we do with the USD. I am not mailing my Dinar to Iraq, or anywhere else for that matter. Then what, we sit on the smaller denominated Dinar; waiting for them to appreciate, and then we choose when we want to exchange our dinar for another currency? Am I understanding this correctly?

I don't know . . . I thought that when they talked earlier about retiring the big denoms from circulation they always seemed careful to say they would still be legal tender, which I took to mean, still good at banks or maybe hi-end commercial dealings like real estate or stockmarket, but NO good in the market place. Maybe I was wrong.

More questions than answers. Trading large for small does not get us anything but more paper. Trading large for small does nothing for the RV. I don't think a 25K note could be suddenly deemed as "not legal" currency. This does not make a whole lot of sense. Taking the large denoms out of circulation makes sense, but having to trade them for smaller bills so the value can then RV is rediculous. Either it RVs or it doesn't.

Think here... I would think they mean in Iraq you have to trade in the larger for the small. Elswhere you would just trade it in after the RV which will happen sometime this week according to his CBI contact.
