Beachwalker
* Iraqiya boycott adjourns parliament session June 12th, 2011 12:45 pm · Posted in NEWS (Iraq & World Currency) Baghdad, June 12 (AKnews) – Parliament Speaker Osama al-Nujaifi was forced to adjourn today’s parliamentary session after al-Iraqiya announced their boycott. The al-Iraqiya list led by former interim prime minister Ayad Allawi boycotted parliament today following a brawl between list spokesman Haidar al-Mullah and a leader in Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki’s State of Law Coalition (SLC), Kamal al-Saaidi. The scuffle is said to have broken out when Saadi allegedly hit Mullah with his walking stick. “Saadi beat Mullah with his cane, and when he tried to react, other MPs pulled them apart,” a parliamentary source who wished to remain unnamed told AFP. According to the source, the fight stemmed from derogatory remarks made by Mullah about Saadi in a TV interview on Saturday evening. Al-Iraqiya MP Ziad al-Tharb told AKnews: “The decision to suspend our attendance of parliament sessions was made at a meeting of all list members following the assault on Haidar al-Mullah.” Tensions between the two rival blocs have been steadily building over recent days. Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki accused al-Iraqiya last week of attempting to sabotage government projects in order to portray him as an incompetent leader. Official sources have been cited saying that Maliki openly holds al-Iraqiya leader Ayad Allawi responsible for masterminding the anti-government protests that took place on Friday in Baghdad and across the Iraqi provinces. Several laws were scheduled to be discussed during today’s adjourned meeting including a law to protect Iraqi journalists. LINK

Jmcc
Our politicians do it with words and press releases, not canes. Canes work better.
Beachwalker
My nagging question and concern for awhile now; is all this just political theater and not very relevant to the RV and it's eventuality, or does the fate and hope of any revaluation largely reside in the hands of these adolescent clowns? I've heard opinions on both sides. The latter alternative is really pretty scary!

capt.cliff
I remember from a post here they adjoined becuase they could not carry GUNS and KNIVES as personal weapons within the parliment [a sign of status among tribes] perhaps it didn't go far enough --sticks and rocks should of been included--- They will always find a phyical means of striking back let's just hope the don't take a page from the boxer who bit off an ear! LOL! and they say Italians are family oreinted and hold grudges , makes them look like the "new kids on the block" I agree a barbcue outside of parliment seems to get more done as it is a giant breach of "emily post" to fight at anothers homes! capt. cliff
a1911handler
History is just repeating itself here. Every new young country has a bout with Senators beating each other up with canes. Don't believe me? Google: Senator Charles Summers, Preston Broooks. That's right. Preston Brooks took his cane to Sen. Summers in the good ole USA. All under the general topic: Bloody Kansas. Eye opener isn't it?
Dalite
My nagging question and concern for awhile now; is all this just political theater and not very relevant to the RV and it's eventuality, or does the fate and hope of any revaluation largely reside in the hands of these adolescent clowns? I've heard opinions on both sides. The latter alternative is really pretty scary! It doesn't really matter what the actual RV decision comes down to, or who's shoulders the decision rests upon. What you are seeing is an indication of the prevailing thought processes at work. They are running flat out at full mental and intellectual capacity; and it doesn't paint a very pretty picture. Canes, Shoes or Stones; all problem resolution choices to them seem to be physical in nature. We can do a lot of things. We can provide monetary support, we can help foster Democratic ideals, we can provide humanitarian assistance. We can not, however, provide morals, ethics, integrity or reason. The culture is theirs to change, only if they desire to do so, and at their own pace. Boycotts, canings, throwing shoes and stones, tribal violence, corruption, sectarian dominance, immature threats and accusations.... What you see is currently as good as it gets. This is apparently the best they have to offer at this point in time. With the over all pace of the rest of the world's advancements, it is a sad and sobering realization to face.
