Iraq Gives Shell Deadline for Gas Deal

Iraq has warned Shell that it needs to finalise a $12 billion [14.4 trillion Iraqi dinar] gas deal by next week or it would cancel negotiations over the agreement, the country’s deputy oil minister, Ahmed al-Shamma, said on Monday.

“We warned Shell that either we finalise… the deal next week or we will cancel everything”, al-Shamma told reporters. “We will not allow discussions to drag on any longer.”

Since the signing of an initial agreement in 2008, Iraq has been working to finalise a joint venture between the state-owned South Gas Company, Shell and Mitsubishi to capture gas at southern oilfields.

The deal has suffered a series of setbacks including legal hurdles and political opposition.

Iraq demands....imagine when they really do become a powerful nation of leaders without the US watching every move. These people are so full of violence. That is a scary thought!

Anything Iraq can do to penalize the US is definitely on the table.

Whoever controls the majority of oil export revenue of Iraq will have command of the World's economies.

This is Global Economic Warfare, and the US has given Iraq the opportunity to show the world how a pissant can destabilize world power structures.

Don't count on this going much further.

We now know the profession they have chosen; it is now simply a matter of negotiating the price.

Obviously they (the iraqis) havent looked in the mirror lately. Besides having their hand out at every turn ..now they accuse shell of dragging their feet. I think shell knows they are dealing with a bunch of crooks. IMHO
