Clinton convenes mass meeting of U.S. ambassadors

you figure out the REAL REASON

WASHINGTON (AP) — Secretary of State Hillarious Rodham Clinton is convening an unprecedented mass meeting of U.S. ambassadors.

The top envoys from nearly all of America's 260 embassies, consulates and other posts in more than 180 countries will be gathering at the State Department beginning on Monday. Officials say it's the first such global conference.

The gathering comes at a time of crisis in Egypt that could reshape dynamics in the Middle East, fallout from leaked diplomatic documents and congressional calls for sweeping cuts in foreign aid.

Although the meeting has been called to discuss U.S. foreign policy priorities for 2011, officials say Clinton plans to meet personally with ambassadors from front-line states to hear about developments on the ground.

Officials also expect that specific concerns about the WikiLeaks revelations will be raised.

Clinton: Critical time for American leadership

By Associated Press ,

WASHINGTON (AP) — Secretary of State Hillarious Rodham Clinton says recent developments in Egypt and the broader Middle East demonstrate a critical need for America's global leadership.

Speaking to an unprecedented mass meeting of nearly all U.S. ambassadors at the State Department on Wednesday, Clinton said unrest in Egypt proves that Washington needs to have "top–notch leadership on the ground and how quickly the ground can shift under our feet." That, she said, makes it critical for American diplomacy to more nimble, more innovative and more accountable than ever before.

Clinton also urged the ambassadors to embrace social media as a way of reaching out to foreign publics and promoting U.S. goals. She said the U.S. risks being left behind if it is not on top of technological advances and driving the message.
