Don't forget the US greenback is actually a quasi-petrol-dollar since Nixon got all the Arabs to agree to sell oil only in US dollars. We owe trillions of dollars and it is all fiat currency.

The US needs a gold, silver, or possibly our own petrol-dollar backing because, IMHO, we are getting ready to be sucker punched by many nations under China's guidance to force the US dollar to be a lot like the Iraqi dinar (ie: value-wise) and to sell oil in other than dollars. That would force us into financial chaos overnight.

Remember, fiat currency is only faith based and has nothing material to back it. When our loans are called and no one has faith in the greenback any more, we can't pay----chaos and the fall of our financial system.

You've got to be able to see this coming. What would happen to you if you didn't pay your bills? CHAOS.

Voted Democrat for the last 40 some years, but am seriously watching to see if Ron Paul (Republican) will run in 2012. He'll get my vote.

Sorry about the politics, kids. Won't happen again.

On the bottom of this article is a link to the USGS. I went to this site and clicked on the USGS Contact address and sent them an email. Maybe if we all do this and enough people make noise for this to happen we can make a difference and keep the oil project on the radar as well as its extraction for the US. This is a matter of National Security and the preservation of our National wealth.

I've said for years....I will not knowingly purchase anything from china....they send their inferior products to america and these big box companies sell the to unsuspecting parents. America has developed an unsatisfying appetite for foreign goods under the rumor their are better. Until americans resume consumming american goods, this is going to grow to a massive problem and it won't just be china. just saying B)

Forgot to add an important factoid: The way Nixon got them to agree to use the greenback was by telling them (the Arabs) they wouldn't even need an army; the US would always back them in any strife.

That's why we went to Kuwait when Saddam invaded. How's that? US soldier's lives for oil ?

Not normally a "doom & gloom" type of guy, but I learned a lot during my 10 years in the Navy during 'Nam.

Hope all this about US oil is true.

They also forgot to report that it cost 5 times as much to process than Middle East oil, because it is what they call shale oil. the US is working on a better why to process for a lower cost.

Thanks

Dumbnar

Canadians produce a lot of shale oil with no problem. Sure they wouldn't do it if it was too expensive. Send a team up there and let our neighbors to the north teach us how to do it right.

Correct, and the estimates of what is recoverable (with current technology) is 1-2% of that 500 billion barrels ... Both the oil sands of Canada and the Bakkan are very expensive and extremely labor/equipment intensive especially when compared to the sweet light crude that flows in the middle east.

THE OIL INDUSTRY,,,HAS TAKEN THIS COUNTRY TO THE CLEANERS...EGYPT IS NOT THE ONLY COUNTRY THAT NEEDS A HOUSE CLEANING,,,,I DON`T MEAN PUTTING ANOTHER NAME ON THE SAME PROBLEM.... LOVE YA ALL

With all due respect............you do not know what you are talking about. As with any industry in the US the vast majority of the energy industry is in the hands of small business.

Kindest regards,

Apparently people don't understand some basics of the World Economy.

Why use our oil when we can buy theirs at a fairly cheap rate. If you think that Oil is expensive today, wait 20-50 years. When everyone else is paying $500 a barrel, we'll have plenty of oil in our backyard.

I live in The Williston Basin...The oil activity is absolutely crazy here. people coming from all corners of the USA to work, finding no place to live with tent cities appearing in the city parks during the summer months. I am renting the two extra bedrooms in my house to three guys from Idaho. A father and son in one room and one of thier friends in another. I am getting $300 a month from each of the father/son and $400 a month from the other guy. They are getting off cheap as others here are renting rooms for $700 a month. There is work for anyone here. if you can swing a hammer or flip a burger . McDonalds starting wage is $12-$15 an hour.Truck drivers are in high demand. Making $70,000- $100,000 a year. Rig hands making $150,000 a year. They are building houses and apartments at an alarming rate and the population of Williston ND has risen from 12,000 to close to 23,000 in less than 2 years. They say the boom is gonna last this time... we shall see...

Hey!!!! An article I can relate too. Interesting enough, my roommate works on the Williston Basin (Currently). He isn't a guy who works on the oil rigs to pump, but a guy who does the electrician portion of it.

From my understanding, the cost of drilling oil there is rather expensive considering the extraction process. However, there are some areas that can dig with ease.

I do know that some rigs can do angle drilling. I don't know the term, but, most rigs generally drill straight down. The idea of directional drilling includes drilling a 45 degree angles to maximize drilling from one particular spot.

New technology, new procedures.. Let's get the black gold out of the ground.

Now, if we become self-dependent upon using oil our own resources.. Would oil stop being traded via USD? And if so, what would happen there??? I bet we would get de-valued!!

Makes you want to invest in something more concrete like the EURO and wait for the devaluation and exchange it back. :)

I agree with you and that is what is wrong with the U.S. right now. The greed of Wallstreet and the Banks also are included. Big business has pretty much sold the country out for cheaper production for inferior products and the loss of jobs in the U.S. A blind man could have seen it coming years ago. If you don't believe it conduct a poll by picking up products in the store and see where it was made. Most of the time it will have "Made in China" on it. I consider most of their products Cheap Sh**!! :)

I guess that's why our government don't care about them getting rich and corrupt on oil money, because we know as soon we use up all their oil; we will tap into our oil.

With the tea party in power, our massive debt and all the instability in the middle east; Now would be the perfect time to start drilling for oil in America.

Adding to all this is the fact we have no Foreign Policy, No one has the balls to stand up and tell these countries were tired of their ****. In my lifetime the last President with any nuts that we had was Ronald Reagan. I say pump our own oil and put the money and work back into the US.
