When you right-click and 'view source' you are viewing the html that is displayed on the page. That doesn't necessarily mean that it is hard-coded. What we don't know is the filename of the webpage that we are looking at here.

We can assume that the title is 'index.(something)' because the web address ends in a directory name instead of a filename; http://www.iraq.alloexpat.com/marketplace/classifieds instead of ...classifieds/myalloexpat.html. That means we are viewing the default page in the marketplace/classifieds directory, whatever it is. I don't remember what all of the default pages are. Some that come to mind are index.htm, index.html, index.cgi, index.php.

A php or cgi page will pull data from a database and basically write that data into the html on-the-fly. To the "right-click, 'view source' guy", it looks like raw html data, or hard-coded.

I thought I would add this information because if you look a little farther in the html, it displays the time in the same table as the currency conversion. The time would appear to be "hard-coded" as well, but I highly doubt somebody is updating the page every minute with a new time. My guess is that this rate (and time) is pulled from a database somewhere. Who knows who inputs information into that database...

Not that any of what I just explained has anything to do with the actual RV of the dinar though... Can I have my 10 minutes back?

<table width="100%" border="0" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="0" height="100">

<tr>

<td align="left" valign="bottom" class="date">

<b>CURRENCY RATES</b>

<table width="100%" border="0" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="0">

<tr>

<td align="left" class="date2">

1(USD) = 0.2798(IQD)</td>

</tr>

</table>

</td>

</tr>

<tr>

<td align="left" valign="bottom" class="date">

<b>LOCAL TIME</b><br />

<table width="100%" border="0" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="0">

<tr>

<td width="19%"><img src="http://www.iraq.alloexpat.com/sites/iraq.alloexpat.com/themes/aquasoft/images/blue-arrow-time.png" width="17" height="18"/></td>

<td width="81%" align="left" class="date2">

Tue | 08:05AM </td>

</tr>

</table>

If none of this makes sense, just skip it. It's been quite sometime since web design 101 :unsure:

kevnutz I have a little experience with web development so I wasn't convinced that this was hard coded. That's why I said I think somebody mixed up the Kuwaiti dinar and the Iraqi dinar. If the data is being pulled from a database I think they're pulling the wrong dinar data since the rate is the same as Kuwait's. Thanks for the observations.

I feel like an idiot doubling back - I just sort of skimmed and skipped through Sandy's Post. Thanks for bringing that to light Kev. Makes some sense that they could have easily skipped over IQD and accidentally clicked KWD.

I can just picture the web dev sitting in his chair... "silly investors. how's this for a rumour?"

I went to the site, had no difficulties. Going to the bottom left I did find the exchange rate but personally I get confused about where the decimal is supposed to be so what does it all mean.

Anyway, that isn't the important part to me. I went to the contact section and told them I was interested in knowing where they got their exchange rates from since I hadn't seen that particular rate recently. I am waiting for a reply and will post it if and when it comes through

When the word of Negative comes to mind, I think of Mr. Rich!

I think people for whatever reason get "real" and "Neg" mixed up - check your dictionary. Scooby Doo is REAL he is NOT negative. Please folks, stop pointing fingers and assessing,

If you do not have something nice to say, please sit on your hands! and just to be clear I'm directing this at those who BASH not those who bring clarity.

CURRENCY RATES 1(USD) = 0.2798(IQD)

Thanks tampa1000. This was also posted over the weekend

I believe and also checked it out myself. The marketplace page is off.

The main home page has the correct CBI rate.

All my best!

It looks like testing going on worldwide. Is it anything to get exited about? "Probably". Let it run it's course. We'll see when the smoke clears.
