not surprising when our current commander in chief refuses to salute the flag or put his hand over his heart for the pledge

this kid is more patriotic than our president

Sir, I think everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but I'd like to ask if you could please back up this statement? Do you honestly believe it true? If so, may I please ask if you could please provide some evidence of this observation?

As I've stated before on this site, I did not vote for Obama, nor do I believe in most of his programs. But I find it highly doubtful that he refuses to salute the flag or put his hand over his heart because he isn't patriotic. Even if he didn't do these gestures in a few instances, it may be for other reasons than what you aren't aware of. For example, our military members are taught to stand at attention when the National Anthem is played and the pledge. In so doing, are they also not patriotic?

It pains me to see good people bash our president on a personal level. Bash away at his policies or his platform, but can we not question his love of country, to think otherwise is quiet frankly...absurd.

Most respectfully. Tiff

Tiffany if you read the post about the Muslim Flag on American Soil you will a picture of Obama. I never knew that picture existed to I went looking. After doing some research I found some very disturbing stories about Obama and that picture. He had an explanation but did not deny the picture was authentic.

Tex, normally, you and I see eye to eye...but pls review this hotlink....sorry, couldn't upload it directly. This rumor of not saluting the flag received 4 pinocchios, the highest rating for an untruth by the Fact Checker..Washington Post.

Respectfully,

Tiff

The photograph was taken on September 16, 2007, at Senator Tom Harkin's annual steak fry festivities in Iowa, an important ritual for Democratic presidential hopefuls. Contrary to the e-mails attacking Obama for disrespecting the flag, the candidates were not reciting the pledge of allegiance. They were standing for the national anthem.

As far as we can ascertain, the photograph first appeared in Time Magazine on October 1. Visit Time's website for a larger version. It was then picked up by the NewsBusters blog (Motto: "Exposing and Combating Liberal Media Bias"), and from there made its way into all those in-boxes.

To his credit, the NewsBusters blogger does not try to pretend that the photograph had anything to do with the pledge of allegiance. Instead he cites Title 36 or the U.S. Code, which states the following:

During a rendition of the national anthem, when the flag is displayed (A) all present except those in uniform should stand at attention facing the flag with the right hand over the heart; (B) men not in uniform should remove their headdress with their right hand and hold the headdress at the left shoulder, the hand being over the heart;

By that standard, everybody in the picture (Obama, Richardson, Clinton, and Ruth Harkin) was infringing the Code, as they had their backs to the flag. On the other hand, the Code refers specifically to "Patriotic and National Observances." We welcome the opinion of protocol experts, but we are not sure that a steak fry qualifies as a "Patriotic Observance," even in Iowa. Since the steak fry was awash with flags, it is quite possible that the aforementioned political candidates were facing the flag and had their backs to the flag at the same time.

We should note that this is not the first time that Obama (does that name remind you of anybody?) has run afoul of the patriotic police. Fox News has criticized him for refusing to wear a Stars and Stripes pin in his buttonhole, on the grounds that the gesture has become "a substitute for true patriotism." Previous anonymous e-mails have claimed--falsely--that Obama is a Muslim.

Asked whether Obama normally puts his hand over his heart while listening to the national anthem, Obama spokesman Bill Burton replied by e-mail: "Sometimes he does, sometimes he doesn't. In no way was he making any sort of statement, and any suggestion to the contrary is ridiculous."

Hey Tiff I read it and I don't think I fully agree with it. If I were to believe that web site they all were dissing the flag. I don't as I agree with that theory.

Maybe it would make a difference to have been there. I know here in Texas when I go to rodeos we have flags everywhere. Sometimes on the walls behind us as banners and in an instant such as this, if a rider were in front of us carrying a flag and we would be expected to salute it there could also be a flag behind us as well. So if that were the case then it wouldn't be out of the question to have a picture of someone with a flag in the background while an unseen flag would be in front of the person.

And as far as National Anthem and Pledge of Allegiance and what is proper to salute I usually stand and salute both since they are usually done right after one another. But that's just me.

As it said "It is quite possible that the aforementioned political candidates were facing the flag and had their backs to the flag at the same time."

It's just a theory but I just find it strange that the other 3 are obviously saluting/paying respect to something that seems important to them. Them being 3 of the 4 and the 4th being Obama. On the web page you directed me to it even states Obama has made other political mistakes.

Like I said when I saw that photo I read a few other stories about Obamas apparent lack of patriotism, or at how it seems like that to others.

Ever hear that saying "Where there's smoke there's fire" ? I just don't think Obama is proud of America and we already know his wife wasn't. I saw that on live news.

I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree. :)

Tex,

Fair enough...we have each looked at each others side of the story and have continue to have our own opinions. Nothing wrong with that. Thank you for your willingness to do so. You continue and always will be a Lady in my eyes.

And for the rest of you posters, my apologize for taking the discussion down an unattended path, the young man is indeed worth of great admiration. :)
