luv2hike27
I was sent this email today with the link below, the first set is from the Pacific theater of operation, and at the end a link to the ETO & Vietnam, Amazing to look at, a few in color. A shock to the senses when you look at how peaceful and calm the ocean is and then look up above the horizon and the skies are filled with ack ack and planes bombing and strafing. There is a great night picture of a sky filled with tracers from the US Marines fending off a Japanese attack. its just a shame that the world and our nation included have utterly lost there sense of values for the most part, and can not come together for good causes and the greater good, like the Greatest Generation did. Not that there are not good hearted great men and women still, there just dwindling and over shadowed by the negativity of the news that is reported and the hey what about me mentality of todays hand out generation. All the strife and anguish around the world, places like Haiti, Indonesia etc after there natural disasters, the US steps up to help them with billions of dollars in aid, but we still have people needing help in Louisiana from the hurricane and oil spill, let alone unemployment. Instead of hand outs, why not create some jobs, I am sure there are a lot of proud Americans who would rather work in some way for there pay check, rather than have to admit defeat and have a hand out to live there life on. Pick up trash along the highways, or in the national and state parks, Public works initiatives etc. It cleans up things and gives them there unemployment benefits. At the same time, there should be drug testing for it, and only limited time on the welfare and unemployment lines, for those capable of working. Obviously this does not include those physically or mentally unable to work. Places like the University of Phoenix are pulling in illegal immigrants and homeless people to fill there classes, because the Federal govt will pay for it with student grants and loans, and when these folks default and disappear again, guess who foots the bill..... U.S. taxpayers. Yet those willing to work but needing retrained after a job loss, or working moms with kids have to make a choice, work to just get by or quit and go to school full time to better there selves, and risk losing there home because they cant afford to pay rent or utilities... If your just going to leave a negative comment or complain, please move along and save yourself the embarrassment. And remember, its always better to sit there and look like an idiot, than open your mouth and remove all doubt. Dogmatic1
Wow! These are amazing photos. I recognized a few that were made famous! I had uncles that fought in WWII (3 of 5 never came home). 1 died at Camp O'Donnell, 1 died on the Arisian Maru (Japanese hellship) and 1 died on the shore of Tariwa. God bless them all!
luv2hike27
God bless them all! There are alot of famous pics, and a lot ive not seen before. Thankfully the pictures and negatives survived. http://blogs.denverpost.com/captured/2010/08/07/on-war-the-dropping-of-the-atomic-bomb-65-years-later/2380/?source=ARK_plog scroll to picture 25, its the 1st aerial photo of Hiroshima taken after the blast. Notice the streets are free from debris, unlike a typical TNT bombing of the era, the streets are for the most part clear and navigable, due to the force of the blast, and the incineration and vaporization. In the ETO the streets where cluttered in rubble debris, timbers, bricks etc. Those bombings typically knocked everything down and scattered it.
