Message from Steve I

I just received a very short e-mail from Steve I sent from his cell phone.

Could you please tell the forum I am with my new wife and will be visiting my new family back east for our first thanksgiving together. I am making calls and will bring updated thru you when I can. I have no reason to be worried yet as we all still have the Chapter 7 sanctions (insurance policy) on our side. I can not reply on this blackberry phone. God bless and happy thanksgiving to all. Steve followed this up with a very short phone call saying that he would send me another e-mail with a couple of paragraphs of his thoughts. I will add this to this thread.

You may have read another thread here where a moderator on another forum (also named Steve), said that we are basicallly in a QUIET PERIOD right now. Please do NOT confuse the two Steves.

I would not expect much new news from our SteveI, zzzzzzzzz or any of the others in that group who had promised another conference call or round table audio. Things are always changing in Iraq, and we have learned over the last few weeks that sometimes there is valid reason for the changes or delays.

Another thought: The 15-day period after Nov 11 falls on Nov 26 which is the date that had been stated for making a new holiday in Iraq. We all hope we will have news before that date. Let's do our best to be patient throughout this week.

In the meantime, stay in the spirit of Thanksgiving, our holiday here in the United States. And as Steve I would say.... "God Bless".

Thank you 'hspotman' - I have not even had time to read through the entire original thread, but I could see it was going south. Let's do our best to keep this one bash-free and simply wait for updates from SteveI. Remember, this is his first QUALITY time with his new wife's family... yet he is still willing to share his thoughts and what he hears from his intel in Iraq. So please be patient and WAIT on his updates.

In the interest of NOT cluttering this thread I am not going to respond to each of the posters saying 'thanks' - I appreciate all of you. Remember, I am just the messenger. I can pass on only what I receive.

What do you bet, now that the 21st has come and is almost gone, that now NOVEMBER 26th will be plastered all over the forums as the next RV date. People have to realize that even when they finally get this government formed, there are TONS of kinks that need to be ironed out.

I am a firm believer that this will happen, and quite possibly by the end of the year, but counting my chickens before they hatch only leaves me with disappointment and frustration and I just feel for those who get set on a date, stay up all night at the computer just waiting for that news to arrive when they firmly believed that it was going to happen, only to see another delay. I'm not being Negative Nancy, just Realistic Rachel to avoid dealing with the sinking feeling that comes with disappointment.

Like I have said to all of you before, I do feel for all of you who have been on the rollercoaster for years now and nothing urks me more than to see so many post dates every month and see hopes get high on that date specified. IT WILL HAPPEN IT IS COMING, but for those of you who get stuck on dates, try your best not too, just be happy you have made an investment and that those nest eggs will hatch soon.

Here are my additional thoughts you can share with the forum.

I had a nice long talk with my partner in Baghdad yesterday. This delay took me by surprise only because of the statements that Talabani’s intentions of hosting a celebration for Maliki on Sunday would have been for a worthy cause, not to celebrate yet another delay in moving backwards with more delays. The reason they can and do get away with this is because they can and probably will for years to come. I have been personally been told contracts are being signed but not executed as we speak.

In speaking to my partner he expressed to me a very valid point. These people over here are only used to a Dictatorship where they are told what to do. The dictatorship of Saddam was handed over to the US government via the “care-taker government”.

Dave (my Iraqi partner) has been hearing that the blocs are not used to sharing or compromising with anyone. This is a very new concept. He told me from what he heard the budget was done. This echoed throughout the world stating the price (per barrel of oil) of which the budget was based on. I do not rely on the news from Iraq because it changes day to day, but I do rely on my partner that is in the middle of this and is sharing to the best of his ability. From what I read before I left on vacation, the budget was based on an even higher rate than predicted previously.

I am trying to spend more time now during this holiday with my new wife and family. She deserves some quality time now and I will make every effort to do that and keep all of you with information as I get it. Please do not look for a post that is meaningless because you are probably getting enough of those.

I have never predicted a rate, however shared my opinions based on facts and knowledge from our contracts and what we feel is achievable to establish a strong Iraq economy for years to come. Now for predicting a date when this happens, I will let a higher power take on that one. It is all out of our control as to timing. It has to be within a reasonable timeframe because the commencement of many projects (infrastructure internally, and externally) is dependent on it.

One last comment regarding the UN, IMF. Remember Iraq has not had the Chapter 7 sanctions lifted (removed) yet. Remember the conditions that have to be met before they are. So please consider this as an insurance policy for us. Also, Kuwait will not allow a weak currency from Iraq because of the oil sharing agreements that are in place.

So with that being said, let’s all work together here as a family and if someone is down, let’s give them a boost and pick them back up because teamwork divides the effort and multiplies the effect because getting gratifies, but sharing satisfies!

I will continue to provide each and every one of you solid information as it is given to me. I want to wish zzzzzzzzz, ChiefV, Scooter, Phoenix, Doc51, Viper51, Railroader and all the rest of you a very blessed Thanksgiving Holiday with your families. We all need them at this time.

Simply a figure of speach... The other name you threw out would not have been in line with the 'N". Let's please do NOT let this thread lose its purpose.

As Steve and I were talking, this is the FIRST TIME this country and their leaders have attempted something like this. They have ALWAYS lived under a dictatorship. They are used to someone telling them what to do. Their leaders are trying hard to put things in place in a demoncratic structure. It will take time for the people to adjust. With Saddam Hussein having kept the various blocs and factions stirred up and fighting one another for so long, how can we expect them to all of a sudden become civil and actually communicate to the point of making decisions that are best for the whole? If it takes a few more days... or weeks... to make this happen RIGHT so that things won't come unraveled in the future, then so be it. We will all be better for it in the long run.

Uh oh . I guess I should have been more specific and I apologize. When I was expressing my concern about " dates ", it was not directed at you or SteveI at all. I was just talking about my observation over the months with posts. Please don't take that personally at all. I very appreciative of him taking time out as well on this holiday with his new family to help keep us informed of his thoughts.
