Hal bloc meeting in Amman to resolve political crisis

Friday, October 15th 2010 3:19 PM

Baghdad, Oct.15 (AKnews) – A member of the 12-seat Hal (solution) bloc from the al-Iraqiya List revealed that a meeting will be held in Amman today to come up with recommendations for the different factions of the Iraqi political arena to hasten the formation of the next government.cms-image-000046802.jpg

Kamel al-Dulaimi, a lawmaker from the bloc, told AKnews that his Hal will find a satisfactory solution for all parties in order to lift Iraq out of the ongoing, seven-month government formation crisis.

"The solution that will be reached today will involve concessions from all political blocs...the recommendations will be revealed on Saturday," he said.

Following al-Maliki’s nomination as the National Coalition (NC)’s candidate for the Prime Minister’s office earlier this month, the al-Iraqiya list looked to the Supreme Islamic Council of Iraq (ISCI) and the Fadila Party from the NC who both opposed Maliki's nomination, with a view to forming a larger coalition.

In what is likely to be the final race to gain a parliamentary majority and form the next government, the 57 seats belonging to the Kurdistan Blocs Coalition (KBC) look set to be decisive.

Both major political blocs on the Iraqi arena, Maliki’s NC and Ayad Allawi’s al-Iraqiya will soon deliver their official responses to the Kurds 19-paragraph list of coalition terms, necessary for securing the Kurdish vote.
