translation of video:

Sources' decisions will settle the matter in the near future.

While the currency exchange may continue.

Sources said that the government may begin issuing a new Iraqi currency in early 2027 after removing three zeros from the dinar.

Indicating that the proposal is still under discussion within the Council of Ministers.

The sources expected a decision to be made in the near future.

While the currency exchange and the issuance of new banknotes may continue throughout 2027.

And it indicated that the project to remove the zeros aims to remove the stolen and stored money outside the banking system.

Confirming that the Central Bank of Iraq has not yet received an official government decision regarding the removal of zeros

if the working assumption is that a new currency is intended to start around January 2027 and Iraq wants roughly a three-month preparation/transition period, then September–October 2026 becomes the critical announcement window. But we need to distinguish that inference from what has actually been confirmed.

The latest evidence makes the timeline particularly interesting. On 26 August 2026, the CBI explicitly said that no zero-removed currency has been printed and that any future project would have to pass through legal, regulatory and technical stages, be officially announced, and include an appropriate transition period for citizens, banks and institutions.

So, if 1 January 2027 were genuinely the intended start date, I'd frame the expected sequence approximately like this:

Window What we should expect if Jan 2027 is real
September 2026 CBI/government agreement progresses; legislation or formal legal mechanism emerges
September–October Formal CBI announcement of the project
October New denominations and conversion mechanics disclosed
October–November Banking, accounting, ATM/POS and government-system instructions
November–December Public education campaign; banks supplied/prepared; exchange rules published
December Final implementation notices and effective-date confirmation
January 2027 Potential launch / beginning of new-note circulation
Jan–Mar 2027 or longer Possible parallel circulation/exchange period

There is, however, an important warning against treating January 2027 as established. The best recent reporting says implementation could begin during 2027, not specifically January. One government-office source said procedures were hoped to begin "during 2027," while another report quoted Communications Minister Mustafa Sanad saying implementation could occur in 2027 and that the entire process could take three years or more.

Moreover, as recently as 17 August, the government spokesman said neither Cabinet nor CBI had formally decided to remove the zeros and that legislation would be required.

So September is our first major watch month, and October becomes even more important.

This coming September and October 2026? Hmm....this is Iraq we're talking about and nothing ever gets done quickly on time ( more delays mostly for whatever excuses ). Therefore, I amn't going to get excited yet and I amn't aiming too high either.

I ask google :

Can a country like Iraq have a rate for larger notes and a rate for lower notes?

Answer

No, a country's official central bank does not give different exchange rates for different note sizes of its own national currency. One 25,000 Iraqi Dinar note has the exact same legal and official value as twenty-five 1,000 Iraqi Dinar notes.

Meaning : whenever, the zeroes are dropped a 25,000 note and a 25 note will be valued by the same new exchange rate.

I think you didn't as the question correctly.   You asked the question as their financial structure sits currently.

The question isn't whether Iraq can assign different exchange rates to different denominations. It can't. A 25,000-dinar note and twenty-five 1,000-dinar notes represent exactly the same amount of currency.

The relevant question is what happens when Iraq removes the zeroes from the currency.

If Iraq deletes three zeros, 1,000 old dinars become 1 new dinar. Therefore a 25,000 old-dinar note becomes equivalent to 25 new dinars. The exchange-rate quotation changes accordingly—for example, 1,350 old IQD/$1 becomes 1.35 new IQD/$1.

But maybe I'm wrong?
