US President Donald Trump indicated on Wednesday that Washington is seeking to separate efforts to reopen the Strait of Hormuz from developments in Lebanon.

 

Trump also told reporters at the White House that the United States had held talks with Lebanon's Hezbollah for the first time, claiming the group had agreed to halt attacks.

 

On negotiations with Iran, he said they are going “very well," adding that he believes an agreement could be reached by the weekend. Responding to a question about the ceasefire with Iran after the recent attack on Kuwait that killed one person and injured dozens, Trump remarked, "There's a reason for everything. We hit them pretty hard the night before, and actually last night too. But they did something, not a big deal."

 

Earlier today, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi warned that Tehran would respond to any attack on Beirut, after Israel authorized expanded military operations in Beirut's southern suburbs.

Former US President Donald Trump said that the situation with Iran is developing rapidly, expressing his confidence that the results will be very positive in the coming period.

 

He added that gas prices will decrease in the near future, noting that there are indications of progress in talks with Iran, and that reports speak of the Iranian Supreme Leader's approval of the negotiation process.

 

On the subject of regional tensions, Trump expressed his concern and annoyance at the continued confrontations between Israel and Lebanon, stressing that he had an angry conversation with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu because of the ongoing fighting.

 

Trump stressed that the United States does not currently need to deploy ground troops in Iran, emphasizing that current developments do not warrant such a step.

 

He also explained that the naval blockade imposed on Iran may continue until September, but he ruled out the situation continuing for a long time, suggesting that a quick solution to the crisis would be reached.
