A member of the Iraqi Parliament confirmed on Saturday that there is no directive from the parliament's presidency or concrete date for resuming scheduled sessions to discuss and vote on a number of important laws, including the Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) law.

Independent MP Jawad al-Yasari told Shafaq News Agency, "The current situation indicates a lack of intention to hold parliamentary sessions in the near future, due to the dispute that occurred during the last session between the Speaker of Parliament and his deputy, which negatively impacted the overall work of the legislative institution."

He added that "convening sessions in the coming days is unlikely, given the ongoing disputes within the parliament's leadership and the preoccupation of political bloc leaders with election campaigns."

The Iraqi parliament session, held on August 13, 2025, witnessed a public dispute between Speaker Mahmoud al-Mashhadani and his first deputy, Mohsen al-Mandalawi. The latter announced that he would chair the session and deemed it legal, with 169 MPs present. Al-Mashhadani responded by declaring it invalid, asserting that he had not been authorized to do so. 

Al-Mandlawi stressed that the internal regulations allow him to preside over sessions in the absence of the president, leaving the final decision to the judiciary.
