MOP: Iraq imports between 50-75 kg of gold daily

The Ministry of Planning announced today, Saturday, the date of opening the gold testing center at Kirkuk Airport, it indicated that Iraq imports between 50-75 kg of gold daily.

The spokesman for the Ministry of Planning, Abdul Zahra Al-Hindawi, told the Iraqi News Agency (INA): "The work of the gold testing centers is ongoing at the Iraqi airports that were recently opened and affiliated with the Central Organization for Standardization and Quality Control in the Ministry of Planning, as these centers operate around the clock at the airports of Baghdad, Najaf, Basra and soon in Kirkuk." He added that "there is an increase in the process of importing gold entering Iraq, as it is recorded daily as a general average of gold at about 50 to 75 kg through official ports," indicating that "the testing units at the airports undertake procedures, and these procedures are as easy as they are accurate and do not take a long time due to the presence of very advanced devices."

Al-Hindawi explained that "Iraq is one of three countries that possess such high-precision devices, whether in terms of weights, marking or inspection," noting that "these procedures have greatly facilitated the work of goldsmiths and reduced the costs that the importer used to bear in the process of transporting gold from the airport or any other port to the headquarters of the Central Organization for Standardization to examine and mark it." He continued: "These procedures have become easy as soon as the shipment arrives at the airport, it is transferred through customs to the inspection center or unit located at the airport, and within a short time, perhaps not exceeding two to three hours, all these procedures are completed and the importer receives the gold and leaves the airport examined and marked," explaining that "this will contribute to protecting the economy and protecting the consumer as well."
