The Baseline Value Of The Dinar.

Here's an article of Dinarian interests...

The baseline value of the Dinar.

Treat as a rumor.  Not verified.  Your opine.

Ariel:       The Baseline Value of the Dinar.

ARTICLE:  The news is just coming out at rapid rates.  Speaking of rates.  I need to reiterate something.  If $3.22 in 1980 was equivalent to $12.34, that’s a 283% increase due to inflation 12 years ago when Dr. Shabibi first brought this up.

If the ER reflects the cumulative inflation from 1980 to now, Iraq cannot simply restore their currency to pre-2003 levels without adjusting for inflation over those decades.

The baseline value of the Dinar must reflect the erosion of the Dollar’s purchasing power over time, which suggest that a direct reinstatement at older rates would undervalue Iraq’s economic position.

If $3.22 in 1980 is now $12.34, applying a similar inflation multiplier (around 3.8x) to the pre-2003 exchange rate of 1 IQD = $3.22 would place the new rate between $12 & $16 per IQD.

However, geopolitical factors, resource control (oil) & economic growth could justify rates exceeding even $16 per IQD to reflect Iraq’s current reserves & output.

Do you know what that means if you just have only 100,000 IQD?  That is at least 1.6 million.  People this is just basic economics.  Not throwing some dream rates out there for a dopamine fix.  Just something to think about.

Governments generally honor old currency to maintain economic stability & trust.  They would be shooting themselves in the foot.

Come on Ariel... it was also 3.22 in 2003 - 23 years after that initial post. no inflation factored in there. That is silly. I think the arguments being given have reached a new low.

Luigi, I want to say that I actually really appreciate these posts. It helps me to understand what people out there are hearing and dealing with. In conversations people have with me about this speculative investment, it is nice to not be caught off guard with stuff like this.

Genuinely, thank you.

You are right...$3.22 ER will not change over time due to inflation.  The IQD goes through the very same inflationary pressures just like the USD does.

Therefore, the EX should not change over time between the two currencies.  IMHO.

I'm not the sharpest knife in the drawer on high finance but how could one say its value is $12 now when they have printed so much more currency through the years. With so much Iraqi currency in circulation multiply the amount times 12 and you have a total worth a gazillion times more than the US and no economy that could support it. Besides the inflation would go into the stratasphere.

There is no way this dinar is going up to 12 to 16 dollars plus I feel this will not go to 3.22 there are a lot of dreamers feeling this will happen. We will be lucky to get 50 cents out of this as I have said previously. Will be happy to get 50 cents still worried this end up as a lop no trust in these people

Tell him how you really feel lol

Yeah I get frustrated at times and probably should not post…lol… but hey if people really believe that is how it works why in the hell would you ever invest in the dinar…lol.. seriously how many trillions and trillions of US dollars have been printed. We have printed so much I am sure our govt lies about what actually has been printed. Right now with the theory stated by the above poster our own US dollar should be worth less then the dinar right now!!!

Well I guess I deserve that by not being an expert in finance and basically asking a question when people keep throwing out these wild rates. Hopefully things will work out but my trust is limited. It is and was a roll of the dice 20 years ago. Nothing ventured nothing gained.
