{Economic: Al Furat News} Deputy Prime Minister for Energy Affairs and Minister of Oil, Hayan Abdul Ghani, inaugurated the first phase of the LNG liquefaction plant project in the Rumaila field, with a capacity of (200) million standard cubic feet per day.

The minister said in a speech he delivered during the ceremony, which was followed by {Euphrates News}, that "the Basra natural gas liquefaction plant project is one of the important projects, and the completion of the first phase of it and its inauguration and operation today is an important step to achieve the goals of the government and the ministry by reducing gas flaring operations, investing this wasted energy, and converting it Dry gas is supplied to electric power generation stations at a rate of (320) million standard cubic feet per day.

He pointed out, "This quantity helps in generating (1900) megawatts of electric power supplying the national grid, in addition to producing (2150) tons of liquid gas (cooking gas) per day, in addition to producing an amount of (5900) barrels per day of condensate that are used In the production of fuel and some chemicals and other purposes. 

Badalghani explained that "the most important characteristic of this project is its reliance on modern technologies in purifying, extracting and treating associated gas, and stopping the release of harmful gases into the atmosphere in order to preserve the environment and public health," explaining that "this comes within the directions and plans of the Ministry and the Basra Gas Company to stop the release of a quantity ( 10) Millions of tons of carbon dioxide annually from this project to outer space, and the prevention of an amount of approximately (30) million tons annually of carbon dioxide gas from the entire activity of the Basra Gas Company in general, bearing in mind that these projects will provide many job opportunities for the sons of Iraq"  

The minister added, "The government and the ministry affirmed their keenness during the past few months to advance the production process by steps forward by providing the required financial support and resolving outstanding problems for the implementation of stalled projects, out of their belief in the need to give priority to sectors that contribute to achieving our goals in sustainable development plans." .

He praised "the benevolent efforts that contributed to achieving this achievement, especially the workers in the South Gas Company, the Basra Gas Company, the Basra Oil Company, the subcontracting companies and all the supporting agencies." 

It is reported that the Basra Gas Company started building the plant in 2019, and despite the challenges of the Corona pandemic during 2020 and 2021, construction work continued until the completion of the project this year. To the plant and the development of the current facilities at the North Rumaila site to enable it to push gas with the required energies, the development of export facilities in the Umm Qasr complex, the rehabilitation of the roads leading to the plant and other works.

In a speech he delivered during the ceremony, the minister said that the Basra Natural Gas Liquefaction Plant project is one of the important projects, and the completion of the first phase of it and its inauguration and operation today is an important step to achieve the goals of the government and the ministry by reducing gas flaring operations, investing this wasted energy, and converting it into clean energy that supplies power stations.
